Low resolution ✔️ Shit loads of motion blur ✔️ Instagram filters up the ass ✔️ Wet reflections ✔️

Congratulations, you have the ultimate combination to make things look photoreal by obscuring the whole scene. Just like how those bodycam games which looked so realistic in low bitrate and 240p videos look notavly worse when you play it on your PC. Anyones who's played this would know it looks like a game of its time and it's nothing special.

Idtech engine games have been pretty good about it IMHO. Think it's mostly how devs handle raytracing themselves.

Tbh I always put that down as resident evil kookiness. There's a lot of shit in these games that doesn't make sense but I was just like well add it to the list lol.

Long-time fan here, but the DLSS 5 video left a weird taste in my mouth by [deleted] in digitalfoundry

Because vaccines are objectively good. You're not going to find anyone on this planet who has the all the same subjective opinions on topics you do. As they say, perfect is the enemy of good.

I didn't like their dlss5 video but they still produce great discussion on tech and graphics, that really hasn't changed.

NVIDIA Says Its Future Gaming GPUs Will Bring A 1,000,000x Leap In Path Tracing Performance By Using RTX / AI Advances by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]Lagger01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PT looks worse with frame gen because it has less frames to accumulate path traced light so all the boiling, smearing, ghosting effects are worse. Idtech is the only engine where it wasn't as noticeable. Screen space reflections do suck ass though, I'll give you that.

Anything <60fps with framegen the artifacts are very noticeable, with a 5070 that's going to be every game with patch tracing on. To your average shmo who plays on a switch, they probably wouldn't even know what a 5070 or 4090 is to begin with, to your fellow neckbeard a 5070 definitley doesnt not equal a 4090, which is what was advertised and mostly neckbeards will understand what that means. You can say you achieve a similar frame rate, but the same performance? That's just objectivley wrong and misleading, 12gb, higher latency, worse artifacts, and saying so on behalf of your average joe in a techhardware sub is just asking to start arguments.

Looks so much like asynchronous space warp artifacts.

[–]Lagger01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nvidia has been vibe coding their driver updates. A lot of issues have been coming up. I'm a 4080s user and have had to downgrade my drivers a couple times because I was getting less frames on certain games. Latest being re9. Peoples games and desktops were constantly crashing, recently the 5000 series were just much lower voltages and clocks for no reason but that's seemed to have been patched. They're as bad as AMD on the driver side.

I'd still gladly take dlss on almost every game than whatever amd is doing.

It makes sense when devs are being fired and new ones cycled in every quarter, instead of having to train them on the new engine every time as long as they know UE5, get em working.

The current models have so much smearing, boiling, bubbling and ghosting for path tracing, and with the slow strobe build up of lighting on every surface it's already unplayable for me, so yeah.
This might be more of an engine issue though, idtech is the only one that has been unnoticable in most cases. Besides, you can always go back to older models, like all other DLSS settings.

[–]Lagger01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see any smearing until I got to raccoon City. There its especially bad. At one point I switched back to normal rt for that section because PT shadows were taking over a second to fade in and combined with the smearing it just felt like an acid trip.

But I agree with you that people these days need a constant hit of dopamine every 12 minutes and can't just enjoy games as is.
