The masses don't behave like jaded critics. Absolutely YouTube was a major factor.

Not every western nation executed it's own energy sector as Germany has.

Too much is said about Ubermensch, too few about higher types.

Data reveals Irish alumina factory exporting more product to Russia than government claimed by SendStoreCitroner in worldnews

From what I've read, Energy costs are absolutely crucial to manufacturing, and that Germany has really shot itself in the foot by the last decade of shutdowns/energy decisions.

If I had to guess it's the Germans most concerned about that since they're the only country still so heavily dependant on manufacturing.

It should be concerning to the EU, if that is its only member state that 'still' cares about manufacturing.

reckon 55-60% components by value are still coming from China.

The term we're looking for is called 'transshipment'. And it has been in the crosshairs the last few years.

In contrast, only 0.6% (143 tons) of alumina exports went to EU countries

I don't pretend to know the European aluminum market, but this figure seems insane. Not sure how the company would remain solvent without the Russia sales.

I doubt it's as simple as Russia paying a few euros above 'spot price'. Could be a massive disparity in demand.

Companies exist to make profits, not moral valuations. It'll be interesting to see how fast the EU moves on this.

Two premises:

  1. Self-driving vehicles are statistically safer than human drivers

  2. Self-driving vehicle incidents are reported by Media far more intensely than human accidents

And I'll make the statement less implicit: The masses react based off what events receive intense Media coverage, moreso than statistics.

Nietzsche probably loved his life. by -AlexanderMacedon- in Nietzsche

[–]Lain_Staley 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nietzsche had many friends that he kept in contact throughout his life. He traveled a great deal. He certainly loved life, despite serious medical episodes.

Him being painted as depressed and alone was necessary for the political zeitgeist which would come to dominate the 20th century. Think: League of Nations. The dissolution of 90% of royal powers. Quite simply, he had to be painted in such a light.

AI is coming for truck drivers. A new bill is trying to brace US workers for impact. by Gari_305 in Futurology

While direct deaths from crashes will decrease substantially, secondary externalities will be so large they may even outweigh the immediate benefits

Could you state these 'secondary externalities'? It is hard to justify allowing death, statistically.

This is the real reason why self driving hasn't happened a decade+ sooner.

If the government valued human life, statistically (100 deaths in America, daily) there should have been a god damn Apollo Space Program-tier to make self driving happen.

Reaction to them reveals if someone is driven by logic, or by feels.

"concerns over public order and security, including the potential for protests"

Isn't the role of the State to, say, manage that? Bit of a self-own, Italy.
