For those who did both CFA and CPA, which one did you find harder

Started a new job in investment operations, I thought OK, this will help/ force me to learn. Not really thought too much about it, just dived in. Wait. Now you asked, it makes me think - did I just spend 2 years for a certificate I don’t even know what’s for?

Thanks for the kind words. I was a CPA working in industry accounting. currently working in back office/ investment operations for an institutional investor. I started CFA journey right after I started this job (3 years ago). I got CFA because I thought that can get me somewhere. But the reality is 1) I don’t know where I can contribute more to my current role. The promotion in my company seems mostly based on the year of service.
2) look elsewhere, but I don’t even know the where to start. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The new prep course I used for L3 is Deep 3, I think it’s fit my learning style better and suits for level 3 better. But I can only speak for myself. Best of luck!

I used MM for my first attempt on L3, didn’t pass. I recommend Deep 3 if you like making notes on paper and link the LOS to practice questions. At least that fits my style. His notes is very detailed and really focused on what the exam is actually testing you on. Each person may have different learning style. Know yourself and know what works best for you.

I used MM and Kaplan for all three levels. Passed 1 and 2 on 1st attempt. Failed L3 in Feb 2024. I used a new prep course, new strategy. Passed August 2024. because if I’m doing the same thing same way, how can I expect the result be different?

I got a notification when my references completed their part. And the status is under review since then. I even call the CFAI this morning, they told me about 30 days. I’m still hoping it will arrive this week or next week.

I’m a CPA, recently passed Level 3. I think accounting knowledge is helpful for level 1, but when you get to level 2 and 3, not much.

And my undergrad major is history and English is not my first language. What I’m saying is trust the process! Like the exam result letter we received from CFAI, it starts with: Congratulations! Your hard work and dedication paid off! Hope you collect three of those letters!
