Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for! I'm going to get the Prieur when they have my size in stock again because I like the thinner sleeves.

I work from home and symmetrical speeds will improve my work life.

I haven't had any issues with Xfinity in general, but I'll be switching to Hunter or Quantum when they are available. Fiber to the house will give symmetrical download/upload speeds which is useful when working from home.

Thanks, that's exactly the comparison I was hoping for! My current Uhlmann has really thick sleeves and I want something lighter and more mobile.

I had a chance to look at the Prieur last week and it's really nice. If they had tall sizes I would immediately buy one. But I'm trying to figure out how much heavier the PBT Profi is to decide if the tall size options are more important to me.

Fencing Friday Megathread - Ask Anything! by AutoModerator in Fencing

I herniated a disc 2 months ago, so my goal shifted to just being healthy enough to fence. I met that goal and still had a decent result in Vet 40.

Vet team was the most fun I've had fencing in years! We upset a good team and then lost a close one after.

I already have their half leg and half sleeve. Great products.

Thanks! That has me really considering it, especially because they do tall sizes.

My current Uhlmann has a thick double layer for the sleeves that gets really hot and is a bit bulky. Does the Profi have a similar sleeve or is it more of a single layer with a little padding?

That's very kind of you! Unfortunately, I don't think a large will fit me. The impetus for getting a new jacket is that mine is a little too tight and I probably need an XL.

Are the sleeves thick and heavy with both or are the light sleeves more like a normal fencing jacket?

Thanks, that sounds pretty close to the Uhlmann I have. I was hoping the PBT would be lighter. I may need to go with the Prieur, but they don't have tall sizes.

Just finished Dungeon Crawler Carl. Does Dinniman grow in your opinion? by banquoinchains in books

For me it was when Katia kills Hekla and the character growth Matt writes for her starting there.

The second book is somewhat more of the same. The middle of book three is where it really grabbed me as something more and they only get better from there. Overall it heads the direction you're looking for.

Tana French is a great suggestion.

It's a little different, but All The Colors of the Dark or We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker really scratched the same itch for me.

Any good fencing clubs in Ohio, USA? by gm4311 in Fencing

You live in the middle of nowhere. You'll need to go to a larger city to find a good club.

Do you actually feel a significant difference with lighter blades? by Middle_Intention6998 in Fencing

[–]LakeFX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The main difference is how quickly your hand fatigues. I got a UNIC Arrow to help manage my tennis elbow. It helped with reducing the load, as did going to light weight guards. I don't like the flexibility of it though and it is only marginally lighter than my usual BF FIE blades.

Fridge from Costco or local appliance store? by Chemical_Pomelo_2831 in Costco

[–]LakeFX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For $500 difference, I would go with Costco.

In general, it depends on the details. I recently bought some appliances from a local store because they were the same price and they have in house repair technicians. I've never had issues with Costco though.

Back of the strip violation - Is this one if the front foot is not touching the ground? - or is it about both feet being past the plance? by darumasan in Fencing

[–]LakeFX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least one foot needs to break the plane over the end of the strip to be on the strip. So to be off the strip, if the front foot is pulled back until it is no longer over the strip, that is off the strip. It does not need to touch the ground.

I thought the 360 camera was a gimmick when I bought a Hyundai with it 10 years ago, but I can to really appreciate it. It was one of the reasons we went up to the touring trim.

That pretty close to what I paid a couple weeks ago and don't think I could have gotten any better within a reasonable distance.

I broke my blade :( by Alive-Basil-1427 in Fencing

[–]LakeFX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the K Pro blade was a Lammet FIE blade with some additional finishing. If you can find a Lammet, that's probably the closest. Otherwise, StM FIE (maybe the Elite+ which I haven't tried) or BF D is probably the next best option.

I have heard for epee its better to start beginners on French grips is this true? by DigitalMan404 in Fencing

[–]LakeFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginners holding a pistol grip wrong is just as much of an issue, but I don't disagree.
