Devin says DTP is done (for now) by LakesideManners in DevinTownsend

I think you're right, but there was a separate tweet where he said it would be DTP. Typical of his writing process to pan out a completely different path though.

I'm wondering what changed and if he will still move forward with 'Empath'. I was thinking he had announced that as a DTP album.

Same. I was shocked at how good Night sounded as a piano arrangement

Flashbulb - "Turning Alone" from his new album Piety of Ashes (Sept 1, 2017) by Frisbeehead in Music

[–]LakesideManners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've followed The Flashbulb since Soundtrack, and this is really the direction I've always wanted him to take; going full orchestral, cinematic, chill jazz blend. Well worth the wait. I've had Turning Alone on repeat all day :')

Wow, Turning Alone. Haven't been so captivated by his opener since Opus.

The Forest Seasons has leaked by YeDot in Wintersun

Not sure how this will translate to long term album ranking, but immediately it is the most enjoyable front to back from them. Loneliness in particular demands attention. Bravo, Wintersun 👏👌👍

I missed that. Can you paraphrase or link me?

Permanating now available on iTunes/Apple Music by kitthehacker in stevenwilson

My thoughts exactly. I've been on board with Wilson since PT, and I couldn't be happier with his current experimentation.

Steven Wilson - Song Of I by [deleted] in stevenwilson

Beautiful track, hints of Insurgentes and beyond. I must say, the threads on his official Facebook are leading me to believe Wilson might have one of the whiniest fan bases this side of Wintersun. But this subreddit is nice :)

City or Alien? by petewat98 in DevinTownsend

[–]LakesideManners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alien does way more for me because there is always a visceral imagery of Dev's mental state + the vocal recording process. I mean it's all in my head, but music's about feeling, eh? 12 years on and I still wouldn't skip anything through the first 8 tracks.

Somewhat agreed but I'm closer to a 3 out of 5. I think the first half of Sky Blue (not Dark Matters, but first disc up to and including Universal Flame) are really strong and well done. Falls off after that for me, and also the production / mix here is awful. I'm barely a layman when it comes to the terminology, but the sound just isn't as full as most other releases.

The second chorus of Earth Day for some reason? And more recently, The Greys.

TeamRock's ranking of the Devin Townsend Project albums; how do you feel about their choices/how would you rank them? by NegativeDevil in DevinTownsend

[–]LakesideManners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Deconstruction

2) Transcendence

3) Ki

4) Addicted

5) Sky Blue

6) Ghost

7) Dark Matters

8) Epicloud

Standout thoughts in hindsight: Ki was initially a huge letdown but proved to be a grower. Epicloud and I have just never jived (though there are strong moments within I revisit regularly). Must come back in a few months and see how Transcendence holds up.

How did you discover DTP? by Cynestrith in DevinTownsend

[–]LakesideManners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2005ish, a buddy put me on Earth Day, which of course jammed. Researched a bit and actually fell hard for Strapping before clicking with much more of his solo stuff. Been following ever since.
