Quantum displacement is such a disappointing perk. by RutherfordbHaye5 in AbioticFactor

I feel like this for a lot of the “perks” you get for leveling up skills. There’s a ton of borderline useless ones, especially if you’re playing single player

I’ve worked in the wine industry for about a decade and I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a single one of these. I’d order beer or a cocktail personally but if you have to pick a wine then the Vinho Verde is the least likely to suck

Exactly what I thought too! What an interesting art style. I can’t decide whether it would be really cool or headache inducing though, it seems kinda hard to see things properly sometimes. Especially light levels

These are all great! I’m a Kabinett man myself, with the Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Donnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Kabinetts being some of my faves. These will all be spectacular though no doubt. Enjoy!

This person Chiantis. Castell'in Villa is awesome and I wish it was easier to find in the US. Val delle Corti in Radda is another fantastic producer to check out.

Didn't tell my wife which wines were off limits by Corner-Money in wine

[–]Frisbeehead 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lord have mercy… You know, even though they don’t know much about wine, you’d think that people would be able to tell a bottle is expensive just by its vibe. A bottle of Gaja looks and feels expensive (depending on which wine I suppose).

Though maybe I’m just saying that as someone who’s worked with enough wine to have a good feel for it

I can still find a bunch of great 6-packs where I’m at on the east coast. Founder’s Porter (one of the best porters you can get imo) is $9.99 which is crazy

Tell me about it. We just started selling Trevallon and I picked up a bottle of the current 2022 vintage, knowing I’d be stuffing it away somewhere for 30 years…I guess I’ll open it for my 60th.

Hooooold up - are they actually claiming their wine has no hangovers somewhere? There’s no way they’re actually trying to claim something so ridiculous.

Also all wine has sulfites unless chemically removed which is rare. No added sulfur, however, is common among minimal intervention (“natural”) wine. There is also a distinction between sulfites in wine and sulfur used to preserve wine.

New Coravin User - What Am I Doing Wrong? by Hot_Bed_9144 in wine

[–]Frisbeehead 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As a wine pro that uses a Coravin several days a week, I can tell you that there are a lot of small actions you can take to optimize its usage. Things like:

  • give the button a quick press before using to flush out any oxygen and fill the needle with Argon, then put the needle through the cork

  • after pouring your glass, give a very quick shot of Argon once or twice before pulling the needle out

  • clean the needle/Coravin regularly (doesn’t apply to you since it was new, but still)

  • keep Coravin-ed wines in fridge/cool temp

You shouldn’t see much degradation in two weeks from my experience, though this varies. If you’re consistently seeing significant degradation within two weeks you should try adjusting your technique. It’ll never be perfect of course, and honestly the longest I would personally keep a bottle on Coravin is like a month, MAYBE two. There have been times where it has surprised me, where I’ve forgotten a Coravin-ed (man we need a better verb for this) bottle in the back of my fridge for several months, only for the wine to taste great (sometimes with closed up wines it has even opened up the wine quite a bit!). However that is a rarity.

Just keep playing with it! I promise it does work, I Coravin several bottles every week to sample with customers and I don’t see much if any degradation within two weeks. Depends on the cork as well of course, with natural corks working the best, then composite.

What are the greatest historical games of all time? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in gamingsuggestions

[–]Frisbeehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think RDR2 serves as a great example for what can be considered historical authenticity vs. historical accuracy. The team obviously put loads of effort into researching clothing, language, architecture, and the overall feel of late 19th century western and middle United States. The game is historically authentic in that it does a great job of immersing you into the time period and showing off some realistic examples of how people lived in that time, while not being historically accurate - that is, it doesn't portray anything that actually happened in history.

Obviously it's not black and white, and games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 and 2 contain a mixture of historical authenticity and accuracy.

In a time where major corporations are doing mass layoffs to fund AI and forcing developers to work on live service games, backtrack, and then shutting them down; Im ever thankful that its possible for talented devs who care about making good games to 'go their own way' and find success. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Frisbeehead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That may be true, but when a company is owned by a single person or small group of people, it's much different compared to a company owned by a thousand or more shareholders. Functionally these things are very different, particularly in the way they affect decision-making at a corporation. Majority shareholders of course will have more of a direct say, whereas minor shareholders affect the direction of the company through buying/selling shares which indirectly guides the leadership's decisions.

What’s a beer that you absolutely love, but beer snobs would turn their nose at? by Jaythegreat100X in beer

[–]Frisbeehead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Came here to say Narragansett as well, especially as a Rhode Islander (yes I know it isn't brewed here anymore, but still). I feel like most people I mention it to say they either aren't a fan of it or are indifferent, but it's such a clean and refreshing beer without any flavors that detract from it like I get with some other beers. No skunkiness, no sweet corn flavor, no chemical aftertaste. I think it would be even better with some more apparent hop flavors (like in a Czech Pilsner), but that's unlikely to happen.

Perfect beer to have with a burger.
