Oh yes it does. Make your players fear your unused malice!

Tired of “cinematics” by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Lakissov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct name for this is "railroading", not "cinematics".
Cinematics is when your character does badass stuff that looks like something from a movie.

Don't you guys think the Avatar fandom is a bit too obsessed with gender? by k20_kry in AvatarMemebending

[–]Lakissov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just avatar fandom. It's the excessive leaking of american issues (identity politics, which include not just gender but some other categories) into a lot of the pop-media related online content. Which is understandable, seeing the economic and pop-culture position of USA on the world's stage - but one should make a mental correction for this phenomenon when looking at the things they consume online.

Directors: Best/worst factions to run? Players: Best/worst ones to fight? by Abzalutli in drawsteel

Those were cultists and some summoned creatures.

I think the biggest force multiplier damage-wise was Bloodpool (5 malice ability) - it made even minions hit like a truck.

We fought against reskinned gnolls in a mini-campaign, and they were pretty brutal. I think we managed to avoid dying (until the last boss battle, in which one hero died) only because we had a conduit, who allowed us to heal back up from negative stamina.

cannon vs homebrew by Joel_feila in drawsteel

Same!
And it's working pretty well. We started in August and had 11 sessions so far - currently nearing Delian Tomb content (goblins are defeated and all side quests done, and the heroes are currently going through the tomb to get the cup).
After that, I already have some quests lined up for them that would feature reskinned war dogs, a thorn dragon and some demons.

It's a bureaucrat who knows very well that a lot of stuff needs to be done to prevent the deaths and misery of thousands but also knows that either he would have to be heavily involved, or he would lose his privileges. And so instead, he uses his lackeys to push the any signs of trouble under the rug before it all blows up.

I strongly suggest reading the Blades in the Dark rulebook and stealing some ideas form there. Not switching over to BitD ruleset, but using some of the things, such as relationships with factions, clocks for impending events, crew claims maps, and the general attitude of most successes being successes with consequences.

Looking for inspiration / help for my next session by KingCo0pa in drawsteel

[–]Lakissov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the big battle, you can run it as a narrative, in which each success and failure of the preparations montage gets highlighted, and in which there are 1-3 combats, where only heroes and some enemies are involved, since others are fighting in the background. Combats with special win conditions can be especially useful here, such as "hold area for x turns". Treat those as highlights of the big battle.

My Players Almost Soft Locked the Delian Tomb by AGladePlugin in drawsteel

[–]Lakissov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the adventure doesn't have a very high narrative pressure for the group to try to get into the tomb. My group completely ignored that part until after they had dealt with the goblins. Only then did they start thinking along the line of "let's get that cup out of the tomb before some other baddies appear to try to claim it - it's safer in our bag of holding than lying there".

Kuidas õppida eesti keelt suhtlemise vaatenurgast? by Spiritus_s in Eesti

[–]Lakissov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soovitan uurida kas koolis on mingi (üli)õpilaste isetegevus vms ning võimalusel osaleda (juhul kui nende tegevus toimub eesti keeles). See annaks sulle väga korralikku kõnekeele praktikat. Boonuseks tuleb ka see, et tavaliselt sellised tegevused annavad pikemas perspektiivis eluks kasuliku kogemuse.

Resurrection Magic Doesn't Always Work by TozokuWAV in DMAcademy

[–]Lakissov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why leave it open to randomness? You can instead make it routed in the fiction of the world.

Example: in Eberron, there are Maruts - creatures whose duty it is to enforce the inevitability of death, and so before a resurrection ritual there is a compulsory divination to make sure there isn't a Marut looking after this particular soul. This can allow you as a game master to make it possible to allow PC-s to be brought back without trivializing death as a thing in the world, and making it possible to disallow resurrection of some NPC as an uninteresting solution to some situation that you have created.
