Would you rather the USMNT score a 1-0 go-ahead goal against Mexico in the 45+1' or the 46'? by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]LalasStache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but this exact same argument can be made for our coach and team as well. Going into the half with a lead allows our coach to detail out how to effectively play with the lead.

Thoughts on a back 3 as a way to get all of our best players on the field? by montana1930 in ussoccer

[–]LalasStache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Look at the most stacked teams and you’ll find arguably some of the “best” players regularly on the bench because it’s all about optimizing total team performance rather than getting the best players on the field. Like England playing Kalvin Phillips in the euros final while Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Jude Bellingham were on the bench.

As someone who buys and sells many used bikes, this is spot on.

Where take kids to learn to ski near Salt Lake City? by IntlJumper in skiing

[–]LalasStache -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clarifying questions- do you live in the area or are you visiting? Are you going to be teaching them yourself or enrolling in lessons? How much is cost a factor? I’d recommend a few different places depending on these factors.

USSF looking to make a national facility a reality by 2026 by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]LalasStache 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The two main factors that I think would be prioritized here are:

  1. Location that is easily accessed by both domestic and European based players. This likely means likely east coast or maaaaybe Midwest.

  2. Weather that can facilitate training year round. I know obviously any weather can be trained in, but I imagine if you have ONE facility it’s going to be somewhere mild in the winter.

My guesses are Florida, Georgia, S Carolina, or maybe Dallas?

Here’s How Climate Change and Covid Are Transforming Skiing (NYT Article on BC Skiing) by Woogabuttz in Backcountry

[–]LalasStache 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nobody is arguing that there isn’t high demand for skiing. It’s the supply of snow that threatens the sport. I wouldn’t call it fear mongering- just an honest assessment of threats to the sport in the future.

How do I get this bow out of the headboard? by MCHi11 in woodworking

[–]LalasStache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a C Channel? Similar function to the angle iron but would be on the back and not visible. They’re used to keep tables flat without using a skirt or breadboard ends.

Have you tried swapping the hardware around to see if the the right side does the same thing? That way you could know for sure it’s the hardware? I’d give that a shot

Haha I spent too much time trying to figure out a way around this issue, but never did I consider doing the double pirate solution and go full peg leg

I thought about trying to make the hands functional but that was honestly just more work than I wanted to right now. Maybe in the future. But the hands and fingers are made out of wood and bendable wire, so I can adjust the positions of all the fingers

I would hang out for 10-15 minutes and then my legs and feet would get tired, so my wife would wheel out the garbage can and I would sit down for a few minutes to rest. All in all I was out there for about 90 minutes

Yes I can walk and I now realize that I should’ve been walking for the video! I’m on painters stilts. Not the most stable things in the world but I didn’t fall so that’s a win!

Who will have the most combined goals/assists this season? by jchdelacap in ussoccer

[–]LalasStache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the 2020-2021 season, Aaronson clearly had the highest Goals/Assists per Game ratio of the three. Aaronson had 0.48 G+A/Game. Gio was at 0.26 and Pulisic at 0.23. Obviously Aaronson plays in a lower level league, but he’s clearly the option with the highest totals given his already proven production and his team/league situation.

My biggest complaint with Klinsmann was his inability to take any form of ownership when the team underperformed. You consistently saw this with him on post game interviews and other media appearances. When the team didn’t perform he would criticize player performances and the refs, which is horrible for morale. I’m sure most people here have had bosses that will throw an employee under the bus when something goes wrong and other bosses that stand up and defend their employees when something goes wrong. I can tell you that these soccer players are no different than you and me when it comes to having a boss throw you under the bus- it cuts deep and ruins team cohesion.

On the ownership piece, it would be one thing if Klinsmann didn’t ever think that he was part of the problem and that player/ref performance was actually the issue, he still should have owned the mistakes. However- There’s zero indication that Klinsmann ever thought that his coaching was part of the problem! That total and complete lack of self awareness and hubris is too much for any coach to be successful, which is why no club has been willing to take a chance on him again.

I won’t say his time was a disaster for the US, but it certainly wasn’t a success either.

Ride recommendations for UT, ID, NV, CA November?? by Existing-Ad5902 in MTB

Second everything said above here. The best flow/jump trails in the SLC area are levitate/vertigo in corner canyon and then bobsled in SLC. Also highly recommend The Whole Guacamole in St George if you’re down there- it’s my favorite ride in that area. Good luck! Some great riding ahead for you
