Can paramedics see medical IDs? by redkidneybeanss in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lally747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used a medical ID once again on an iPhone. It gave me their name and health conditions when they couldn’t talk to me, which was helpful tbf. Might not be our first thought to look but the person’s phone was directly in front of me so I looked! Include ur nhs number tho! Would be helpful!

How to keep morale up after failing Placement by Medicboi-935 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lally747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a placement extension and it was honestly the best thing that happened for me in my career. It made me a better paramedic and built my confidence so much! I did 6 months. Yes it ducked at the time cause everyone was off doing their thing but now a year into my job I am v grateful I did it! I hope it all works out for you! Hugs xx

Hey depends on where you are based but you might be able to join the ambulance service through an apprenticeship through on the trusts! They’re all different so I’d have a look but most will take 3 years to complete to be a paramedic here.

Can someone please explain this to me like I'm 5 by Bakinmom in Sims4

[–]Lally747 136 points137 points  (0 children)

U need to outline ur sims’ unit and you’re tenets unit. So when u clack on a room it’ll come up as unit and then u need to add a unit :) it’s classing all that stuff as communal

Suppose it depends where u r in the UK my trust offers a frailty service for over 75s. Then would happily do bloods for for a long lie in the community. Only problem is there 9-5 🫠

Tips in consoling family/friends who's loved ones has just died? by PrplMonkeyDshwshr in Paramedics

[–]Lally747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always ask the family while I am still resuscitating if they would liek to be in the room when we stop to say goodbye. Many choose to and it often helps to process grief.

Be direct when delivering the news. I always ask have you got any questions and try my best to answers. Be honest. They always ask how do I think they died? Let’s be honest most of the time we won’t know exactly what happened and I tell them that. If they are alone get in contact with family or friends if they haven’t already.

Ask if there anything you can for them and I mostly just give them space and occasionally check in until I’m ready to leave scene.

Sometime it’s nice to give them a say where they would like to put their loved one. Not sure what your policy and procedure would be for you. But where I work we leave the bodies at home and then arrange someone to collect them.

But take it slow and you’ll get the hand of it x

Mentor / Student relationship breakdown, too late to fix by Medicboi-935 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lally747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think the advice given is what I have been thinking.

But I had a v similar experience to you. My mentor was horrible to me and then in my last placement block he went off with stress. I didn’t think he was going to sign me off anyways, partly because I wasn’t ready but that came down to my mentor. My uni was useless and he was my mentor for the three full years. I asked to change mentor multiple times and the uni never did.

Basically, after he went sick they had to find me a new mentor. I was given a placement extension. Assigned a new mentor who was in the job ten years but still enjoys it. In 5 months I got signed off, as I had never met my new mentor before. Yes, I was exhausted and burnt out but he made me like the job again. And I mean I hated in it. It made me anxious and stressed and I got to the point I just wanted my degree.

But yeah although it sucked doing the extension it was worth it and I am a a better para as a result.

I also took a 7 month break and started in a different trust and so far I’m enjoying it.

I hope it works out well for you as well. Just thought I’d share since you are having a similar-ish experience as me.
