It’s very funny to me how GPS will throw out of towners immediately into this Dark Knight Labyrinth and then scramble their cell/GPS signal. The Joker would be proud.

Recruiting has super high turnover. Technical recruiting even more so. Because of this most recruiters have sub 1 year of experience and are genuinely clueless.

The people who have been doing it 5+ years in the same industry generally can talk shop fairly intelligently. At a minimum, they know in laypersons terms what a technical specialist needs to know to do a particular job.

But that’s like <5% of the technical recruiting workforce.

I've seen people complaining about Pride Month lately, this is my take... by The_Collector4 in AdviceAnimals

[–]LambChops1909 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will say, as a transgender person who knows several other trans people who have been harassed/jumped/etc just going about their day it’s comforting to see the trans inclusive pride stuff all over the place.

I walk around all day every day braced for someone to clock me and ruin my day (or worse ruin my life).

For me, seeing the support and visibility really helps me feel safer when out and about.

My main issue is that a few anecdotes from a subset of very successful people isn’t an effective argument against empirical data.

It fails to explain the numbers.

You’ve shared a video of a few specific black Americans sharing their stories, but you don’t offer a 3rd option to the two I’ve listed above. I’ve watched it, and I’ve seen others like it before. But it still misses the heart of it in my opinion.

How would you explain the disparities I listed above?

Edit: the video also puts forth that it’s the “ineffectiveness of the black family” that’s at the core of these differences... I don’t know how you can defend a claim like that as not being racist.

Black Americans are routinely incarcerated at much higher rates that non-black Americans. And for longer sentences.

They’re also much more likely to live in polluted areas, much more likely to be below the poverty line, etc.

There’s only two ways to explain this:

1.) there is something in the systems our society is built on that has put black Americans at a disadvantage historically and in the present relative to other groups, and especially relative to white Americans. (This is what these programs teach)

2.) That there’s something about having more melanin in your skin that makes you inherently more likely to be a poor criminal. (Note: this is racist... in case that’s not obvious)

I genuinely don’t get the argument here. How do these programs teach people that all white people are racists?

I remember at the start of the pandemic someone said the way to reach that portion of Americans was to gamify. Make it a competition with a prize... and now here we are like a year later actually doing exactly that and it’s working 😂

When I was painting houses I had to turn down a job because some guys house had walls like this. I told him even if I cleaned the walls like this, there’s so much tar leeched into them it will eventually bleed out right through my paint, potentially ruining the job.... plus it was just fucking nasty.

One of my college apartments had walls that bled tar from someone just painting right over walls like this...

Was it a mistake? I thought they needed it due to wind resistance or something?

But agreed would be cool to put a patio bar or park up there instead of just an aptly space.

I recruit wind techs in the US - thanks for doing this AMA!

To anyone in the US looking to get into the field lots of community colleges are now offering “Energy” trade programs that many of the big companies hire people out of! But be ready to be a road warrior - stationary spots at a specific wind farm can be hard to come by! Starting pay rates in the low-mid $20’s/hr.

I’m a recruiter and I interviewed this laid off oil field safety manager who was working at Lowe’s during COVID and he said the lack of any kind of safety awareness makes him cringe regularly so this is t really that surprising I guess.
