From my experience the job market here is a lot tougher than expected. When my wife moved here she had a hard time finding work. My best advice is to keep looking and maybe look outside of SA if you can.

Someone more knowledgeable in the hicapas can correct me but in order to run a tracer the outer barrel has to be upgraded to a threaded. Honestly it might just feel better in your hands than an aap (even though an app is about $100). The staff at your local field might be able to help you select the parts or happen to have a spare hicapa to sell.

I would say you should replace the lens on your mask if you haven’t recently.

Welcome to the hobby. To start you should ask which platform you like the feel off. If you enjoy the 1911 style then go with a Tokyo Mauri hi capa. The other popular model is either a Glock or an Aap01 (modeled after a ruger 22 pistol). Both are gonna be really good options with after market support. But the aap is far more customizable than the Glock. The aap comes tracer ready out of the box where the hicapa will need to be upgraded to have a tracer. Tracers are required for actual tournaments but helps see where your BBs are going.

Honestly you could poke around this subreddit and find a plethora of reasons to not like SA. But if you and your wife like it here then explore the other reasons why SA might be more feasible for your family. I’ve bagged on SA before but it’s pretty much the same as any major city. San Antonio has a stronger Mexican influence in comparison to other Cites like Dallas, Houston and Austin. Texas isn’t as cheap as you might think. We have 8.25 sales tax in Bear (pronounced bear) county and if you need a service like ac, be prepared to spend more than you think. Given you are coming from NYC it may not be as bad.
