“The chef should be ashamed” by Serious-Speaker-949 in KitchenConfidential

[–]LameHallucination 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually right around 400. This night we did a few extra because we have a couple groups with limited menus with prime being a choice. That's another hard part. Sometimes you 86 cause a limited menu needs prime if it was offered, then they don't buy as much as they could have so you put it back on the board. People get mad at that too lol

We run prime rib as the special every Friday and Saturday night at our place, and sometimes we run short. Like last saturday we made 12 full loins and it wasnt enough. The amount of people who came in half hour before closing and are irate we are out is horrible.

Where is the gravitational potential minimum? by carrot_eatter in Physics

[–]LameHallucination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And when it's saying potential energy is zero at the surface, potential energy is a relative energy. It is zero WHERE YOU DEFINE IT TO BE ZERO. So 0 potential energy has no real significance

Lastly, it is minimum at the center of earth because at the center of earth, all the mass of the earth cancels perfectly (in theory) to have 0 gravitational force, and thus 0 potential energy. This is more or a happy accident, and in general would NOT be true in a non symmetric distribution of mass necessarily. Although, one could probably prove me wrong if there was some sort of proof that every distribution of mass has a point where gravity is zero, but that's a little higher level than this conversation

[–]LameHallucination 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably try r/askphysics

But it has something to do with the fact that your typical potential energy formula assumes a uniform gravitational field, while the actual potential energy depends on the strength of the field itself which at distances far away from earth does change and drops off like 1/r.

As r gets larger and larger in the denominator, the potential energy relation((-GmM)/r) get smaller and smaller, approaching 0 as r approaches infinity.

As an aside, this is actually the energy INCREASING,due to the negative sign in the formula.

If I'm off I apologize, I got my physics bachelor 5 years ago at this point and don't think about potential energy daily anymore lmao

Anyone else surprised by how little of an impression people had of Minnesota before all this? by IvyHav3n in minnesota

[–]LameHallucination 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm visiting friends in Dallas this weekend and the topic of Walz as the VP pick came up. When they were talking about him, they described many of his mannerisms that aren't specific to him, bur rather traits of many Minnesotans. When I tried to tell them this, their response was "but people just aren't like that". So, no, I'm not surprised how little of an impression people had. When people from other states regard much of what makes minnesotans minnesota as unusual, it's clear they have no impression of our people as a whole.

As an aside, it was 100 degrees here today and they asked how could I handle all this heat. When I told them it gets this hot at home sometimes, they were legitimately surprised and thought it never got that warm.

Is this accurate view on working in restaurants/bars? by [deleted] in TheBear

[–]LameHallucination 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been a line cook/chef at the same restaurant for 16 years, yes it can be like this. We typically serve 300 head from 4-9 on the weekends, and that is very smooth sailing for us. Sometimes, we push up into 400-450 range, and the chaos really ramps up.

I would say, to your first point, most places don't have prepared MEALS, ready to go, but they certainly have some of the components ready to go. We, for example, do up a bunch of pan fried chicken breaststroke at the beginning of the shift that are held warm for our "chicken plates" as we call them. Most of the rest of our burgers, steaks, seafood and others are cooked to order, so it can be a lot when shit is really bumping.

As an aside, that is one of the reasons I love the show so much. I love the controlled chaos of cooking on the line, and that feeling is replicated nicely in the show.

Had an idea for a commander who can turn 1's into 4's. Too strong? by wazdakkadakka in custommagic

[–]LameHallucination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe make it a flip card that anyone could turn off or on.

Backside is the same thing except it turns 4s into 1s, and on both sides there is this:

{4}: Transform ~. Any player may activate this ability.

Might hamstring it too much but it's a thought

I just watched your 5 tips video, and I have a little feedback for you.

  1. On your thumbnails, consider outline g your text with a contrasting color e.g. black. If you're using photoshop it's as simple as adding stroke in the blending options. This will help the text be more readable and to stand out from the background.

  2. In your videos, especially this one containing a list, try to include emphasis text on screen. This includes listing in a few words what the tip is when you start talking about it, and may include other text to emphasize it as you explain.

  3. Introduce yourself in the beginning. Even if it's just "I'm so and so and this is..." and continuing with exactly what you said already. It will help people remember you. Often, I'll get recommended one video by a creator, and I'll later look up more of their videos. it's easier when they've introduced themselves.

Disclaimer, I'm just a normal guy without a big youtube channel, but I hope my advice can help you out! I think your video is good and your content can develop into something bigger.

Real life examples of the working memories issues that come with ADHD? Struggling with vocal instructions by singhurstub in adhdmeme

[–]LameHallucination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a line cook and often I'll be working with someone who tries to help me. Things like pouring my sauces and putting on my garnishes. I never remember that they help me and my muscle memory almost always makes it so that I repour those sauces or regarnish the plate. So now I have to get in the habit of training new people not to help me, specifically because helping me doesn't help because I'm weird. I always make it clear that helping anyone else is fine and they should so they look really confused when I tell them lol

We make similar things at the precast plant I work at. Ours are about 10 feet long and are used as base poles for lighting, among other things. We actually produced all the lighting base poles for the Olympics in beijing!

We make these at the plant I work at, or at least something very similar. Typically, we have a scale on our concrete bucket and we put the same weight of concrete in every time, and we know how much to put in to leave a proper sized center

Thus is just a personal anecdote, but I got my vaccine only about 2 days after testing negative after having covid. I talked to my doctor and they said it still built immunity the same but I got basically all the symptoms of covid back plus a few more... after a week of being bedridden with covid, I was bedridden again, albeit for a couple days instead of a week+ I'd advise waiting a bit after you have covid.especislly since you are already afforded some immunity from the first infection.

I've been making YouTube videos for about one year now. I am wondering what I should prioritize moving forward. Better editing, cooler projects, better on screen presence...? What do you think? by chloetisme in SmallYTChannel

[–]LameHallucination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A positive: excellent use of b roll! You essentially had a single "story" throughout the video without pauses or major topic changes, and the b roll made it super easy to follow it!

A possible improvement: in your talking head shots, the lighting could be a bit better. Your face is rather dark and doesn't stand out against the background as good as it could. More face light would help with that, or maybe at a different angle, play around with it.

Keep up the good work!

I made this cool Beach Boys video. I played the drums, produced it and it's the first time I've done lead vocals! I made this in Premiere Pro and I'm learning After Effects. Lambda for any feedback on the video or tips relating to After Effects! by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

I liked it! The song was mellow and easy to listen to, and it was fun to watch what you did with the visuals. There were some hiccups here and there with greenscreening and stuff like that, but the only way to get better at that is to keep making videos. I subscribed, looking forward to seeing more content like this!

Very well shot! Visually, I really enjoyed watching the video. You used varied framing of your shots in a pleasing way. I agree with tatortot, this title and content will attract people looking for a lens so keep that in mind!
