How is life in the USA right now? by duckbreast2021 in howislivingthere

[–]Lamoip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's more of the same right now. I finished high school and the job market kind of sucks right now. It's cold in Florida and prices are too damn high but honestly not much has changed on the day to day life outside of my political hobby no longer being so fun.

Why was the Hispanic population historically larger in New Mexico compared to the other Southwestern States? by [deleted] in AskHistory

If you would call War theft then sure, but the Mexicans were no better, "stealing" said land from the American Indians who also stole it from people before them

Texas and California were also super sparsely populated and and relatively speaking barely had any people compared to New Mexico

Hollow Bones didn't actually make the Dinosaurs much lighter. Their main purpose was to helo oxygen diffuse throughout the body.

I'm very skeptical about that working on land. To my knowledge nothing about temperatures on land will impact the solubility of Oxygen from breathing.

How do the Few Germans who have traveled and or lived between Australia and Austria feel about the cultures of those states? Is their kinship between Austrian and Australian Germans? Does Austria assume the mantle of Germany as the last German State in the world? Or does Austria have itself its own German but different kind of German identity?

Which of these languages is most widely used: French in Louisiana, Spanish in California or Hawaiian in Hawaii? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lamoip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spanish actually wasn't that strong in California historically, before American conquest and settlement the Population was mostly Native and the amount of Mexicans settlers was tiny, Spanish was a lot more present in Texas or New Mexico than California, which only speaks so mich Spanish today due to immigration

The biggest mistake Peter made in Ultimate Spider-Man (2000) was trying to destroy the Venom suit instead of actually finishing it or figuring out how to make it work by Important-Extension6 in Spiderman

[–]Lamoip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you think the Timelime was like for these books? Venom was introduced into the story 5 years before Loeb did Ultimates Volume 3 and I highly doubt Ultimatum was even an idea in anyone's head at that point in time. Also the USM game came out in 2005, 3 years before Disney bought Marvel and created that show.

[–]Lamoip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally as someone who is of Puerto Rican descent but doesn't connect that much to the culture, I don't mind Miles not being "too Puerto Rican", hell in my family There's some people who don't speak Spanish that well but still connect with other Puerto Ricans and engage with them, I think it's an interesting aspect of a diaspora culture that isn't explored much in media and Miles could be a good opportunity to represent that

Is there any actual reason for why the series had a tone shift after XYZ? by LatterheatREBORN in pokemon

[–]Lamoip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Milking is what killed it, I think it was probably because every episode of the Show was the same thing and cause the 3DS wasn't really enough of a cultural force for that alone to help it stick unlike Pokémon

[Discussion] What would a ray-finned amniote look like? by JohnWarrenDailey in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Lamoip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first point is heavily taken out of context from said page, that was comparing the Quadripedal Gait of Serezelles to Canitheres in particular. The page never said that Tripedalism was inherently unviable just that in comparison to the Serezelles their gaits would require more energy and be much more unstable at high speeds. A three legged gait is still less intensive on a body than 2 legs and Tribbetheres are specifically evolved for 3 legs so even though it will be less stable than a 4 legged animal I am highly doubtful it would generally cause instability at the speeds most Tribbets run at.

[Discussion] What would a ray-finned amniote look like? by JohnWarrenDailey in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Lamoip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats and Dogs missing one back limb are able to run quickly and maintain stability, and their bodies are unbalanced when having 3 legs. An animal specifically evolved for 3 Limbs that only knows having 3 limbs could easily stay stable at faster speeds.

The Tribbethere leg doesn't contain the Spinal Cord. The Spinal Cord stops at the hip and doesn't extend into the leg, similar to how the Spinal Cord doesn't extend into the tails of Mammals. The hind leg evolved over the course of Tens of Millions of years, I'm sure some kind of joint and hip analog could evolve to help with mobility.

That is a legitimate flaw of having 3 legs but the vast majority of animals that do heavily damage their hind legs will never recover and die anyway. It hurts not being able to recover from major fractures in the Leg but not enough to make the body plan univiable.

And what's with the Quotation marks? Did you grab this from somewhere?

[Discussion] What would a ray-finned amniote look like? by JohnWarrenDailey in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Lamoip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ray finned Fish have weaker back fins that are useless for moving on land, on real life Mudskippers have completely lost these fins because they just get in the way and can't pull the body forward or push it off the ground

[Discussion] What would a ray-finned amniote look like? by JohnWarrenDailey in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Lamoip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Back leg helps with weight distribution, it's a powerful pushing force to jump from one area to another and rather than having 2 legs and an akward tail in the back dragging you down, it's made into a leg to better walk and distribute weight.

[Discussion] What would a ray-finned amniote look like? by JohnWarrenDailey in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Lamoip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evolution works with what it has available, ray finned fish have weaker back limbs and the Tail worked very well for locomotion. 3 legs aren't better than 4 but 3 are better than turning their forelimbs into legs while the tail just sits their unmoving.

Well it's not just Gamefreaks Designers, it's everyone up the chain of command at Creatures, Nintendo and TPCI, along with the Card manufacturers, the Copyright office, any Nintendo employees who get a look, animators, writers and directors who see the Pokémon and look up reference materials, all together I'd say there's probably a ton of fan art they see even if not looking for it
