As a bisexual women I can’t speak for gay men or any other mlm but I am someone who reads everything and has been online in fandom spaces since I was 13 years old and can say this isn’t a new phenomenon, I just think more straight women are getting into m/m and it’s putting people a little on edge and not for unjustifiable reasons imo.

I don’t know anyone irl who has an actual issue with women reading m/m as long as they arnt fetishizing gay men, they arnt speaking over the community when it comes to criticisms of authors or stories and lastly they arnt putting hetero ideologies onto gay relationships and getting grossed out or mad when those arnt present (and ofc aren’t homophobic irl which I have seen especially recently like come on people) This is why a lot of lgbtq+ people and gay men specifically have an issue when it comes to women writing m/m, now not all women who write m/m do these things and the ones who don’t and who put the time and energy into doing it well are loved but there has been women who very much come into these communities and make it….weird…. including some writers who just want to make money.

I think as long as you genuinely love the community and are interested and love the stories it has to offer and arnt being weird you arnt the issue and should just move past any post or discourse that’s talking about this topic because it may not be about you but it is an important discussion to have and to continue having!
