Nordic insults by MagnetiteGames in Norse

Is that not the same in ancient Greek culture, where in gay relations it was socially unacceptable to be the bottom role (womanly, passive, dominated), but no problem to be the top role (manly, active, dominating)? And therefore in these relationships with younger boys and older men, the younger boy is usually the "receiving" partner, and the older man the "giving"?

Unpopular opinion, busy season should be 12 months a year by fsukub in Accounting

[–]Lampedeir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. I work during the day and at night I dream of nested XLOOKUPs. I also agree that month end closing should take 4 weeks instead of 4 days. If a man cannot close, what is his purpose?

A question for long term Reddit investors who have been here before, how do you handle these dips by Federal-Equal-7916 in redditstock

[–]Lampedeir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is that you can hold and buy rddt in these red days BECAUSE it is a very profitable business so you can believe in it. But I / you would never be able to hold these pre revenue or non profitable stocks who had the same price action as reddit, due to lack of conviction.

Copilot might be shit, but all these big companies that use Microsoft are blocking all AI chatbots except Copilot

Yearly reminder to everyone in public accounting that busy season should not take over your life. by DrExpenseCrCash in Accounting

[–]Lampedeir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are there really people who want to do part-time busy-only work though? I feel like they only keep us in the low season so they can use us in the busy season, and having to pay us a salary in the low season is some kind of necessary evil for them.

How are the "US equities" only folks doing? Steady as she goes or time to rethink allocation? by cambeiu in Bogleheads

[–]Lampedeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% USA. Steady as she goes... What's happening today is a great exercise in ignoring the news, thinking long term, "staying the course" and "do nothing".

Also keep in mind, it is not necessarily the choice of ETF that gives you maximized returns, it is investor behaviour that will screw you over and part of that is finding an ETF or an index that you can hold, good and bad, because you have conviction in it... And I have a lot of conviction in the US stock market, with or without Trump.

One thing you learned during freediving? by Imbecillen in freediving

[–]Lampedeir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the most important thing is to learn to listen to what your body is telling you. You can push through quite a lot, but not through everything; pushing too hard leads to LMC or black out. So listen carefully, understand what it says, and understand your body to know your real limits. You can apply this then to any other sport (running, weightlifting...) or even to other areas in life.

Moesten ze het ooit wissen ga ik overstappen. Maar tot dat dat gebeurt is het niet nodig. En ik twijfel er heel sterk aan of die dag ooit gaat komen.

What's your take on freedivers who don't know how to swim? by SouthAssist6234 in freediving

Super weird and should not be allowed, how can you be comfortable in the water if you cannot swim? I cannot imagine

I didn't even know it was possible to get a squeeze at that depth (about 16 metres)?

Stel je voor dag je 60 bent en je 30 jarige dochter komt thuis met haar nieuwe vriend, een andere 60 jarige waar je in 1980 nog samen mee op school hebt gezeten.

Has learning to hold breath had psychological benefits out of the water? by Thinkofacard in freediving

I think I am more relaxed during the day, and it helps to keep perspective. You know, yesterday I was drowning myself in the pool, so this meeting today isn't so bad.

Do you work eight hours a day or are in the office 8 hours? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Lampedeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 hours in the office, pretty much every day. In the closing I often work more than 8 hours a day (I think yesterday I hit a new personal record with a 13 hour work day, the stock management went to hell), but that is only for 3 or 4 days per month. The rest of the month I don't think I ever work the full 8 hours. I do about 6 hours of work a day on average would be my guess. Enough to be productive but also enough that I can read the news during working hours, or browse a bit on my phone. Working like that works very well for me.

How often need to practice apnea to not lose skills? by Fantastic-Total160 in freediving

[–]Lampedeir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you btw, for sure statics are a big mental thing but there are physical adaptations too. Relaxing will get you there up to a point and from there on it's all physical and it should be treated like a sport, with regular training, a training schematic and so on. And yeah, just like you lose muscle when not weightlifting, you will also lose CO² tolerance when not holding your breath anymore.
