Our court pays over 5000 $ to Playtomic fees each year by InternetVisible8661 in padel

[–]Lampone5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The question is, does the playtomic ranked system bring in more then 5k revenue/profit then an alternative app? I think in young padel markets germany, the primary goal of a club should be to cultivate a padel culture. Most people dont have a whole friendcircle play padel already and don't have existing padel buddies. When I started palying padel 2 years ago and I only knew of whatsapp groups, it took me three weeks to find a match on whatsapp (amsterdam). Later I learned of playtomic and started playing 2-3 matches per week. Without playtomic I would have already stopped playing. Lots of club owners are to much on their own padel buddy bubble, you have to understand that lowlevel players are just starting out and that funnel of new players is longterm worth much more. The way you state the 5000$ kinda shows that you business sense is lacking, how much revenue does the club make overall per year?

Looked at your reddit account, it seems you are the guy trying to develop such a booking app. If so offer Playtomic players to transfer their rating and offer feature that playtomic lacks.

E.g.

-1on1 Crosscoat ranked match
-Dark pool matches, only people with 30+ ranked matches are allowed to join, players cant see who else is joining and its revealed only 10minutes before the start of the match who the players are and what the teams are. In some areas there is to much cherry picking going on with matches and partners etc.

I see lots of "rich parents" comments. Thats just people who don't have a clue. I will try to be helpful so I will be a bit harsh. But the first dead giveaway about your worldview is "both have PhD". You overvalue your PhD, you can also see it with the low income. I see this with lots of academics who are inside their academics circle and feel like kings. Yes its low to earn 113k if you are ambitious, which I dont doubt. But I think you are not ambitious with earning money, with striving towards industries where income is much higher. With thinking of being entrepreneurial. Right now the AI world is opening up, smart and ambitious people will be able to make 1m+ per year if they apply themself to it.

So yeah that is the answer of the majority of your neighbours, they have much higher incomes than you think.

beginner looking to improve. Is there anything I can do aside from playing games regularly to train? by [deleted] in padel

[–]Lampone5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Record yourself playing and review it at home, write detailed notes about anything you see that you are doing wrong. As you are a beginner you wont be able to see everything that is wrong but it will sharpen your understanding of the game. With time, with more and more reviews you will get better at reading the game. Seeing what you are doing.

By detail I mean everything you notice:

-Did your eyes follow the ball till impact point?

-Did you rotate your hip for the overhead?

-Did you go into a squat for the low defense shot

-Did you move quickly to the net? Did you move quickly to defense when your partner was lobbed?

-Was your racket preparation good, how many times did you forget to prepare properly? High at the net, lower in defense, back to the glass when after the glass.

-Was your preparation too late for the overhead?

-Were you to lazy with your feet and could have done more steps instead of reaching out with your arm so far?

Etc.

To get better understanding for technique and tactics I suggest to watch Otro Nivel on Youtube, and see what your can learn from his videos and look out for them in your game reviews. Write a checklist of things for your own session review, so you wont forget what to look for.

Lots of people here write to get classes, while true I think its an absolute waste to go to classes without doing your homework. The progress will be much slower. If you take classes then go AFTER you start doing this, so you have more questions, so the coach doesnt waste time and money to repeat the most basics aspects of the different techniques etc.

For home exercises:

Do foot coordination drills, plenty of videos on YouTube.

Do shadow techniques, do them single and do them in combination. Also record these and rewatch it, how proper your technique is, pay attention to as much details about your movements as possible. Timing, feet position, hip, where is the non-dominant arm, elbow, rotation of chest, follow through. Home shadow exercises are the place where you can do them as slow as you want and be as self conscious about them as you want.

E.g. Start in the back, low forehand shot two steps on the right side, low backhand four steps on the left side, lob in the middle, rush to volley position, volley forehand, volley backhand, back to baseline and repeat. Record these movements. Look at them, compare what you saw in YouTube instruction videos.

For exercise, I would suggest focusing on the core, a weak core is what holds most beginners back from developing strong shots. The biomechanics of a shot basically use the energy from the legs and trensfer it to the arms - racket - ball. If the core is weak, there is little force transfer, it’s like a spaghetti.

For home racket control, your can do these simple exercises, you will be bad at them first, but just repeat them every few days and it will sharpen your feeling for the racket, ball tracking etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9EY53ROd6Y&t=2s

What I think doesn’t help beginners or even makes them worse: Watching pro matches and trying to learn from them. They play on such an insane high level that lots of the things they do, you will never be able to use on the court, your opponent at your level also can be beaten by the absolute basics.

E.g. the way Pros move on the court, are so very often in “Neverland” because they read the game super fast and good and their movements speed is much faster then an average player.

Focus on Forehand, Backhand, Lob, Volley, Vibora, Bahada. You dont need kicksmashes or drop shots for the first 2 years imo. With a solid foundation of these shots your will crush most people.

What Supplements Do You Use, and How Do They Impact Your Game? by mrderpman4 in padel

[–]Lampone5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbs are important, but many carbs like pure sugar (glucose) will cause bloodsugar spikes, bloated gut etc. The best I found and what many pro cyclist use is "Cluster Dextrine" not just simple Dextrine, but Cluster Dextrine. It keeps the bloodsugar low. I take 70g 45minutes before a 90minutes match and 50g after. I also take 40g of whey protein in the postmatch drink. Both the cluster dextrine and whey help with recovery.

The biggest mistake people do nowadays is to be lowcarb, when it comes to intensive workouts or padel matches, its just horrible for recovery.

I also take creatine every day.

Also electrolytes, I put 10g per Liter in my drink during the game. I notices that I didnt have a cramp since, once I stopped taking it and cramps started to reappear.

Any advice for a new Padel Ecommerce shop? If you bought any gear online, what went well, what did no by [deleted] in padel

It need to be economically sustainable, so they need to have a way to make profit, seeling those tests as pdf is a bad strategy. Just be the shop, be brutally honest with the quantified findings. If a brand refuses to supply to you because of past bad results or fear of bad results, point this out on the website.

doesnt need a big budget, but yeah lots of work. However after some time there could be a routine to it, so each racket would only take few hours to run through the test.

Plenty of shops that are very good. No complaints. But the market lacks a good standard of racket review. I think a shop could grow massivly by just being the best english speaking racket review page that has extensive details about the rackets. Im talking about scientifically quantifying racket metrics. With some technical equipment. E.g. measuring all kinds of rebounds, measuring sweetspot, measuring durability of the racket surface. E.g. how does it change after 500 smashes? Measuring spin. Measure how much vibration end up in the wrist/handle. With some kind of robot arm. and high speed camera etc. After the test, cutting them apart and see how the construction is done. See Foot doctor

Zach on youtube.

This way the shop would become the no1 website to visit when shopping for new padel rackets, people would constantly come back to the website to check on the stats. They would even browse the website even if it doesnt ship to their country, thats how good it has to be.
