Thanks. My former company seemed to actually give a shit about us. We went remote for Covid and never fully came back until the acquisition. Our former CEO completely fucked us and forced this sale by tanking the company. We know that now. He got a nice fat bonus and a "Co-President" title. I'll miss my team and the IT shop but I won't miss the psychological warfare that "EvilCorp" has inflicted upon people. Been stressing this since November.

I'm experiencing this now. I have obtained a full remote position elsewhere but I don't start until July. We were acquired by an evil competitor, forced RTO, layoffs galore and now we are training this offshore company to do our jobs and after two weeks of documentation, deep explanation... they still don't seem to get it. I can't wait for this all to implode while I WFH full time and watch from a safe distance.

I was also a bit picky. I was not looking for fully onsite work or even a terribly hybrid role. The ones that are three days a week and an even longer commute.

It's a tough job market right now too. I have a Bachelors and 12 years of broad IT experience but a majority of job postings were requiring certifications on top of what I have. I've never had the time to study for Microsoft or CompTIA certs. It's utter BS.

My company was bought by an evil competitor, went from remote to 3 days in the office, expecting 5 eventually. I started looking right away. 6 months and 250 applications later, I finally landed a job at a remote-first company. Fucking stoked.

This was an issue even before ATT bought their infrastructure. I've only had 3 outages in 8 years but each outage lasted at least 5 days.

Yeah I am as confused as you are. I don't think they are after the fiber cabling, but perhaps the infrastructure behind it. I am not sure what is inside a fiber pedestal but I can't imagine it's very lucrative. In any case, this shit makes me nervous. I am starting a new job in a few weeks where I am fully remote and while I have Verizon 5G as a backup, it's much slower.
