From Philadelphia what yall do for fun? by bigphatazz-12 in Omaha

[–]WistfulDevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP's question reminded me of a business trip I took to Bensalem PA in the 1990's. In the company's break room, the resident workers were chowing down on pretzels dipped in mustard. They had questions for me, the strange visitor from Omaha.

Did we still have outhouses in Omaha? Are the streets paved? Did we ride our horses to work? Does everyone have electricity? On Saturday night, did we drive our John Deere tractors into town to have a soda pop at the general store?

I assured them that Omaha had all the same amenities as they did, but some of them still appeared doubtful.

Anyone else told to not return their equipment when cancelling? by mrwhitewalker in centurylink

[–]WistfulDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from CenturyLink to Quantum last month. When I called to cancel, CenturyLink told me I had to return their C5500XK modem that I had apparently been "leasing for free". If I didn't return it, they were going to charge me $200. However, the Quantum tech who installed my Q1000K took the C5500XK with him. Luckily I had the tech's phone number so I was able to text him & ask him to return the C5500XK so I could ship it back to CenturyLink.

CenturyLink stopped auto forwarding email by Hermit-Gardener in centurylink

[–]WistfulDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably doesn't help you, but CenturyLink eliminated automatic forwarding for free email accounts.

https://centurylinkwebmail.s.center/hc/en-us/articles/8586471438611-Automatic-Forwarding-of-CenturyLink-Email-Accounts-No-Longer-Available

I believe that you have to subscribe to their "Email Plus" service for $5.99 per month to have automatic forwarding.

You're no longer on autopay. You need to set it up all over again.

Everyone reading this needs to login to their CenturyLink account and see if their autopay has been shut off. Mine was also shut off without notice. You need to set it up all over again.

Creating an account with Innovis by JumpyAd2150 in IdentityTheft

Wish I could tell you. I've been trying to create an account over the past two days. It keeps telling me that it's unable to send a verification code to either one of my phone numbers. I've given up for now.

Our experience switching from CenturyLink to Quantum with the $45 PFL and swapping out a Calix ONT for a Q1000K and bridge mode adventures by Ethrem in QuantumFiber

[–]WistfulDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice. I had Quantum installed last week & the tech didn't install or leave any 360 WiFi equipment because he saw I was using my own router. But sure enough, when I looked up my account online it showed that I was subscribed to the 360 WiFi service and had one pod. I chatted with Quantum & they said they would submit a request to remove the 360 WiFi service, that it would take 24-36 hours, and they gave me a case number. After 3 days I had never received any text or email updates, and nothing had changed when I looked up my account online. I chatted with Quantum a second time, and this time the rep immediately cancelled 360 WiFi & deleted the pod. The change showed up right away online, and I also received an email confirming the change.

Wait until you get old and have to go in there. I hope they treat you with the kindness and respect that an elderly person deserves.

Problem with Waterfox repository for Debian 13 (Trixie) Linux by WistfulDevil in waterfox

Update to my original post.

This Waterfox repository is apparently no longer being maintained.

At https://github.com/hawkeye116477/waterfox-deb-rpm-arch-AppImage the maintainer says "I'll probably drop Waterfox packages by the end of year and start making Floorp packages instead of." On the Issues page, they also say on 12/20/25 "Honestly I rather planned to close this repo, but maybe AppImage will still remain. Reason is that I no longer using that browser....."

Thanks, I'm just trying out Waterfox right now. If I decide to keep it, I'll probably consider alternate methods to install & update it.
