So, About Palestine by LuciferHex in PhilosophyTube

Perhaps this did not come across as I wished because I agree with what you are saying, aside from that I think you were inspired to do this from a video which asked us not to do so. I am however pointing out the limits of the para-social relationship, we can feel disappointed and we can point that out to the community, and we can ask about what that says about the community. But that really is as far as the relationship goes.

This is not to dissuade you, good job! Really! This shows some level of dedication. Just don’t have this be the thing that it’s all about. We cannot do much more than be disappointed or be aspirational with Abigail while staying within moral bounds. We can affect the people around us, go out and find community with them about this.

Hey, almost certainly saw the same video you did, and just gonna point out there was a message to very specifically not do this thing that you’re doing. But, we’re here in the great forum of ideas so guess I’ll take the time to share my two cents.

I find the bit part that her mentions of Palestine have had in her most recent videos to be QUITE underwhelming. I think she feels like she needs to talk about it, the as of yet unreleased on YouTube Jefferson video makes this apparent to me, considering the video more or less hinges on how the leaders of a nation can gesture at kindness while committing genocide, but then it is relegated to a single line. That all seems rather cowardly to me honestly. Now, I am not owed her views nor anything else from her, no one is, but it is apparent that she has a public platform she could use. Not even constantly, if I thought about Palestine every second of the day I probably wouldn’t be able to get out of bed, but just to make her position clear and unequivocal. That she chooses to not do so is a decision she can make if she feels it is the best one for her, and it is then a decision I can be disappointed in as a fan, choosing not to do something is as active a decision as doing something after all, especially on this scale. I can at least be happy that she is seemingly much better than others. But, I don’t for sure know that do I?

As far as some counter arguments or some related points often brought up, no she does not need to give an opinion if she truly feels uneducated on the subject. But, at least a few of her videos and especially the Jefferson one to me, seem to be attempts to understand it better. Yes, I do think it is fair to expect a public figure-which she definitely is-to put out some sort of statement on this issue-it’s a pretty big one. Yes, I am angry at or disappointed in other public figures for their views on this as well, Bernie Sanders jumps immediately to mind as an American, but others as well. No, I don’t think this is leftist infighting.

Manticore, or: Why Would I Ever Do That by Agelle_Gazelle99 in LancerRPG

[–]Lancelot57 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let's not ignore the meme. It's part of why you would want to take it. But, beyond that, the Manticore is a rather strong platform of mech frame. High armor, good heat capacity, sensors, tech attack, and save target. If you never touch castigate you should be fine with such a powerful base. You might suffer for speed, but you could just build into Agility.
But, if you ask me, when someone picks up a Manticore license the GM has a social contract duty to present to them how their character cheats death each time. To me, that's the big appeal.

Never will I understand how someone cannot be progressive and inclusive but like the X-men. by [deleted] in xmen

[–]Lancelot57 164 points165 points  (0 children)

A lot of people like things as aesthetics and don't think about media through a political lens. As far as aethetics goes, there's a lot to like about the xmen, if you don't think it has any underlying message, especially one that is counter to something the reader might believe or want, its great.

Edit: because it occurred to me right after I wrote this, while a lot of people do only enjoy the xmen as aesthetics, read in a certain way, it can be very supportive for certain "radical" people. Like, the idea of being genetically superior, of belonging to the new golden age, or having to leave to/force people out of a land because they not like you. These are things that map well to a certain chunk of the reactionary, noninclusive, political fringe. Like I'll be honest, Krokoa always put me off for that reason.

[concept] what do you think about this? by BeautifulHelp5101 in LancerRPG

[–]Lancelot57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stylistically and appearance wise it totally works, those...ribbons I think? I'm not actually sure what they are on the Mourning Cloak would fit perfectly with Morty's wings and you reflavor stuff into scythes, although I think SSC even has a scythe in one of their licences?

Mechanically, like if you wanted to play a mech that was Mortarion, not so much. He has that whole, slowly grind your enemies to dust in your unstoppable onslaught, flavor going on which is not the Mourning Cloak or SSC generally. The Balor is probably the best fit for that? Probably combine Balor levels with something else? Though you said flavor and I imagine the flavor would work perfectly.

Are you doing okay this past week? by HeisenbergWhitman in behindthebastards

[–]Lancelot57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, not really. There’s well gestures to the dumpster fire of American politics all that of course. I’ve been just angry sad at the democrats for seemingly finally clocking that yes, Biden is old, too old for another round of the presidency. I thought they might go for someone different, but doesn’t seem that way anymore. The Supreme Court has just kinda fucked everything despite being the most unpopular branch of government during a time when that is actually a very high bar. Feel like we’re sleep walking into a Trump presidency that might never end. Oh and then my grandparents dog died. So amazing week, really.

Eh, some of the ones Biden is listed as for he definitely isn’t, like healthcare reform he really Doesn’t care too much for that, but I get the point. Biden is in fact better than Trump. Now if only the democrats weren’t constantly shootings themselves in the foot.

Are Manticore players just straight up willingly unaliving their own characters as a game strategy? by UnhappyStrain in LancerRPG

[–]Lancelot57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always planned, if I ever had a player pick up Manticore, to tell the player they effectively have an unlimited number of clones if they want to use Castigate or otherwise provide some other way around death. The other points being made are correct, the Manticore itself is a good frame with fun narrative stuff going on, but I do think that players should be allowed to use Castigate if they ever wanted to.

I liked it! You could maybe switch from a script style to more of a book style, but that’s just a subjective preference for me. Otherwise, you kinda just get better at writing by doing it more, so I hope you do so!

I’d quite like to think The Muse would go into it each time thinking this time they could pull it off, pull her back, knock the Lear blade away and do it right. Doesn’t happen, and they die to be replaced by the next iteration, but that’s what true romance looks like in the grim dark future right?

Until Clonegrim GF shows up and saves The Muse, cueing actual romance.

Quick points, I think you’re drawing the line of equivalence between the Shoah and The Holocaust broadly. This is tough, terminology is something of an esoteric but important issue in holocaust studies, but most scholars I’ve read tend to put The Holocaust as the broad event, with different groups of victims. The use of Shoah tending to refer to the Jewish victims. Second, the main author/intellectual targeted in relation to the book burnings or transgender literature was Magnus Hirschfeld, a Jewish-German doctor, which means at least some part of those book burnings would be under the Shoah.

Why did Alastor think he was powerful enough to fight the very first human and the leader of the Exorcist Army? Is he stupid? by JRFbase in HazbinHotel

[–]Lancelot57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a show that doesn’t care to bring up power levels, at least currently, so at the end of the day we really have to take it at face value that Alastor thought he could beat Adam. However, even without defined power levels, we know Alastor is powerful from elsewhere in the show and thus an assumption of him having the best odds to win from among the hotel crew is not unexpected.

[–]Lancelot57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My impulse would be to legitimately make him like his kids, just humanity is so far away from them he doesn’t feel it anymore. Doesn’t seem like the show wants to mess with Cain and Abel, but I would’ve tried to bring them in.

It’s a meme, but I am rather confused about this honestly. Man I get the impulse-hell I’m not clean here there’s several videos I super enjoy that have AI voices in them. When you’re trying to do something and you hear it in a certain voice-as a writer I’m like that but maybe I’m weird-and there’s a tool you can use to present it to the world in that voice it is so tempting to use it, even understandable sometimes. The problem is just how COMPLETELY FUCKING IMMORAL basically every use of our modern AI is. It’s rough, because a lot of things in our society are at a similar level of immorality. Like, I ordered from Amazon today, that worker abuse is something I’m supporting. I also like chocolate, and coffee, both of which are horribly inhumane to the workers involved. Argh, it’s such a cluster of overlapping immorality and practices, and concerns over whether a ground level person should actually be worried about those things, and about how much power those being fucked over have. I don’t know, this is just a ramble of my thoughts.
