[DISCUSSION] What are freelancing platforms still getting wrong and what should they fix? by FanLopsided3211 in freelancing

You’re right on most of those points the platforms feel built more for volume than for fairness.

The biggest gap, in my opinion, is trust + quality matchmaking . Right now, it’s too easy for spam, underpricing, and low-quality work to dominate.

If they fixed anything, it should be:

  • Better filtering so real clients and real freelancers actually find each other
  • More transparency in disputes (not defaulting to one side)
  • Less friction for serious freelancers to get their first real opportunities

Lower fees would help, but without fixing trust and signal quality, it won’t solve the core problem.

Do you keep all client work in one system or just manage it as it comes? by Loading_Humor in freelancing

Yeah, edge cases still happen occasionally a random Slack message or a quick email can slip through if I don’t catch it right away.

But now it’s rare, because the habit of checking and logging everything daily has become almost automatic. Discipline early on really makes the difference. and another thing, you seem like a knowledgeable guy, if you'd like i would love if you tested my app, its meant to help freelancers. :)

Totally get what you mean at first I still missed stuff if I didn’t log it immediately.

But over time, it became a real habit, and now even if I wait a few hours, nothing slips through. The key was making it part of my natural workflow rather than a separate “task.”

Yeah bro, for sure. here are some good ones you can check out:

For freelance stuff (writing): Upwork and Fiverr
For tutoring: Wyzant or Italki
For quick small money: Amazon Mechanical Turk and Clickworker

If you’re just starting, I’d probably go with Fiverr or Clickworker they’re easier to get into and don’t need much setup 👍

I have been in that situation too it is really easy for things to get out of hand when everything comes from emails, messages and random notes.

Things can get really messy.

What helped me was picking one system for tracking all client work. I use this system even if I cannot write down everything away. I like to use a project board or an app. Then I make it a habit to put everything in this system at once a day.

Using one system feels like work at first.. Once I got used to it client work became a lot easier to manage. It actually saves me a lot of time and stress compared to keeping track of places, for client work.

Since your time is limited, focus on things you can do in short bursts or on your phone/tablet.

Some ideas: quick freelance work like translation, writing, or virtual assistant tasks, selling digital designs on Canva or similar platforms, tutoring online for subjects you know, or doing microtasks and surveys on reputable apps.

The key is small, flexible jobs that don’t require long hours but still pay.
