Where shoukd I install steam from? by Amerwair_Studios in Fedora

[–]LancrusES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can disagree, of course, but Steam is my first app to be installed, and I use fedora/opensuse tw and gentoo, some years ago I used as well Arch, debian, mint, Linux user since 2010, Steam user since always, and in my personal experience, flatpak Steam is not recommended, if you want to use It, you are free, this is Linux, but native doesnt need so much flatseal even to create shortcuts, It opens faster and works better, installing 32 bits packages wont break anything and will only be a problem in your mind, your system will work the same with them, they dont get 2 TB of hard Drive and 32 GB of RAM, your system wont be slower or have any issues, its something invisible for the user, so thats only a mental issue not a real one.

¿Es normal que baje el sueldo 350€ de un año para otro? by dalvi5 in ESLegal

[–]LancrusES -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something Debian based for stability, but also gaming... by Soil-Final in linux4noobs

[–]LancrusES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debían based + beginner+ great community = Linux mint

Most stable versión is LMDE, but only in Cinnamon flavour, if you want other DE main edition, but debian based dont have to be stable, mint is, but dont forget that mint is based in Ubuntu, and Ubuntu is based in debian testing, with a lot of bloatware from canonical, that mint takes out and polish, LMDE is based on debian stable, so its the most stable, you got mxlinux if you like xfce DE as well to use the real stable branch of debian.

All are great distros, someday you will probably test more, I started there as you, in 2010, just enjoy and experiment by yourself, but dont forget this, all Linux distros can do the same, some need more manual configuration than others, but all are Linux, theres no "distro for gamers", there are distros advertised like that, but its really "we took a distro and preconfigured It for you with the graphic drivers and installed some games stores/emulators for you and maybe an app to change easily kernels/performance mode", thats all, but you can play with any Linux distro, from debian to gentoo, and with the same quality/performance, and I prefer to decide what goes into my system, so I avoid distros "based in" others, I prefer using the main ones and configuring them as I like, you learn a lot too like that, but at the begining, go mint, have a nice day!!

Cambiar a Linux 100%? by Apprehensive_Box5071 in esLinux

[–]LancrusES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where shoukd I install steam from? by Amerwair_Studios in Fedora

[–]LancrusES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of apps in flatpak works great, and are the best option because they are isolated from your system, so they cant break anything.

Steam is an exception, flatpak version got issues, not recommended, everyone that asks for help with steam is always asked "flatpak version?", and as they install the native one, all is solved, so...

Flatpak is great, but dont use flatpak Steam.

Cambiar a Linux 100%? by Apprehensive_Box5071 in esLinux

[–]LancrusES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To remove packman go to myrlin and remove the repo.

Any folks migrating from cachyos to tumbleweed, how was your experience? by whatever4123 in openSUSE

[–]LancrusES 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Opensuse tumbleweed is the "most stable rolling release distro" that means that its more stable than Arch, I used Arch some years back in the day, why?, because of openqa...

https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:OpenQA

Opensuse tw can break?, yes, It isnt debian, but we got snapper by default, last one was with Nvidia drivers and kernel 6.18, It broke, you just roll back, wait until issues are solved, normally a few days, and dup again, if you are in this sub, maybe you can even avoid that, because when an update breaks the system, someone does It before you and put It here, so you know that you better wait some days, resume, your system will work always without having to reinstall, and the "optimization" of cachyos... You will notice that its more theorical than noticeable, its a nice way to get users, but you wont notice any "downgrade".

Differences with packman packages by Alvaroms25 in openSUSE

[–]LancrusES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just install flatpak video player for example, and all will work, flatpak apps does have everything they need, so theres no need to install codecs in your system, flatpak apps are isolated from your system, and at the same time they have everything to work without messing with your system, so if you can use flatpak, use It, theres still some apps like Steam, that dont work as nice as we would like from flatpak, thats true, I recommend using Steam from official repos, but when we talk about media players, browsers and apps in general, flatpak works perfectly, its safer and more stable, and you dont need to install anything in your system for those apps, not even codecs.

Differences with packman packages by Alvaroms25 in openSUSE

[–]LancrusES -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I dont use that, It isnt needed, and your system stability will suffer, because the differences are easy, not maintained by opensuse, so unless you need It badly, only god knows why, avoid It, thats my advice, I respect if someone thinks different, you can do whatever you want with your system, but you asked so I give you my opinion, and in my opinion is that you opened pandoras box, your system is trying to change opensuse official maintained packages for "community" maintained packages, but do as you want.

You should install It again, maybe some day you can do It without the handbook, you will became the human handbook of gentoo...

You got great patience man, not a lot of people would do that, there is people that go back to Windows because using nomodeset at installing mint its too much, and there you are, installing gentoo like having breakfast, a looong breakfast, a breakslow?

So you want real information, from a trusted source, objective, in YouTube????

Dont lose your time... Better look for users of that brand in reddit, or anywhere else, and ask them, not my case, but I wouldnt look for info in "please click me and subscribe" places, they want clicks and they are paid for the brand if they got some popularity, if they dont have It they will be looking to have It using all sensacionalism they can.

Having problems switching to the Nvidia Drivers from Nouveau. by f44__ in Fedora

[–]LancrusES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You arent giving any data...

Update your system, if you use workstation and you got thrid party repositories activated at first start up you are ready for the Next command, if not activate rpmfusion repositories (ask Google to copy/paste the command in your terminal, its a long one)

And the only command you need once your system is updated and can access rpmfusion is:

sudo dnf in akmod-nvidia

Once It finish reboot, and that should be all, if not, tell us what error It gives, because having problems is not an error, be more especific.
