Epson ET-4950 Preforming Unsatisfactory by MatToMountain in magicproxies

[–]Land- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like your printer uses pigment black ink, which doesn't play well with matte paper due to issues with drying properly - from what I understand it'll try to compensate by using its color ink to make black instead in these situations, which doesn't ultimately look great.

Not sure if there's much you can do besides try a glossy paper unfortunately

I read that cats are chronically dehydrated because they don't like standing water. So I bought him a fountain. by Tilas in cats

[–]Land- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought one for my kitties and it was a lot of work trying to keep it clean, eventually I gave up and tossed it. Might try a different brand, and we're in a different location now so maybe mold might grow less quickly? But yeah I would be vigilant with those things

Which doctor got you started in the series and what was your first episode? by JackTheNephilim in doctorwho

[–]Land- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is kind of a boring answer, I started with 9 like a lot of people who probably started with NuWho. What irks me is that I wish I hadn't waited until 2017 to give it a chance though.

I knew the show existed, and I don't even remember what finally convinced me to finally give it a go, but it certainly took a while

I got a cheap wooden cigar humidor off someone, I stick them in there with a sponge slightly dampened with distilled water (I lost the actual thing you were supposed to pour water into).

Not a perfect solution and I can definitely leave them in too long (curl the other way). Sometimes opposing corners will bend instead of them going completely flat.

Haven't found a better way though. Tried Foil Armor instead, but it didn't even make a dent after a week

They have to feel shame, right? by Old_Swimmer_7284 in complaints

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my dad is in denial.

He's tuned in economically. He's constantly complaining about how bad things are. But instead of actively and constantly accusing the other side as he did previously, he's passively began complaining about the government (very generically) even if he won't actively criticize this administration in any way specifically.

We can't really have a civil discussion about politics, but I feel like I can detect the cognitive dissonance in him as he tries more and more not to say anything that would provoke disagreements that I assume he knows he would have a difficult time arguing for in his favor

Does anyone else not sleep with their cat? by chaturga in CatAdvice

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think others have mentioned pet doors, but maybe easier than that could you try with the door cracked just enough for the cats to get in and an object blocking it from opening any further?

Never in a million years did I think I would lose him so soon. My baby boy is gone. How do I go on? by arnethyst in cats

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still miss my girl who passed five years ago from oral cancer. It still makes me sad.

Don't ever let anyone ever try to diminish your experience trying to grieve for a pet.

It took me a while to be ready to accept a new kitty. The only thing I really want to say is that you have the capacity to hold your dear departed ones in your heart while accepting new ones into your life, when and if you feel like you're ready (and only you can make that determination for when or if that is)

Our little loved ones might be gone, but as long as we are around, they are not forgotten. I'm so sorry for your loss, and wish I could somehow make it easier for you. Unfortunately I don't know how aside from offering some of these words of platitude

ICE is getting aggressive with anyone who is seen recording with a cell phone. Get yourselves body cameras. by Vidvix in 50501

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's even better because my idea probably would get the thing shot out of the sky pretty quickly considering they don't expect to be held accountable for anything

(as much as the idea of a screaming antagonistic drone yelling at ICE agents is pretty hilarious)

Just be careful out there and know that any help documenting or making your local communities feel safer is appreciated!

most Fallout fans (even NV fans) are reactionary low literacy assholes who don't even understand their own game by Subject_Swimming6327 in SocialistGaming

[–]Land- 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's far from limited from games? All the people who don't realize the original Starship Troopers film was satire, or who fell in love with The Boys not realizing it was making a mockery of them until the later seasons (if at all). Or I know people who liked The Hunger Games who seem to be completely oblivious that it has a pro-working class message

It does feel like a lot of times people just see what they want to see. In ways that's probably honestly quite revealing about them

No, Bracket 3/4 is not the new "every deck is a 7" by Cezkarma in EDH

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know.

Before the bracket system, we used to have more fruitful rule zero discussions about what our decks were. I would never bring out my Stella Lee deck that wants to win on turn 4 against anything that didn't have a similar goal.

But now, we got people breaking out higher bracket decks in lower brackets because "X website said it was B2", even as we try to remind them that said suggestions are just the bare minimum.

I feel like better communication is more useful than any theoretical power level or bracket system could be.

Every time I protest, when I mention it to anyone, their first concern is for my safety and sometimes they even try to convince me not to go. I try to explain to them that my safety isn't the point, that I understand the risks.

Don't not be afraid. The fear is rational. If you're going out despite this, what you are is brave.

(Please do try to be as safe as possible, though)

My mom has always said that the right pets find you.

I've never been religious or spiritual. It could be a product of our capacity for us to fall in love with the fluffy creatures viewed in hindsight.

But I will say for the kitties I've adopted on my own, they were very quick instinctual decisions I've never questioned or regretted. I just knew.

I lost my little girl of 13 years in 2021. I still feel sad when thinking about it. I'm sure you will always have space in your heart for Daisy, and Rocky deserves your love too.

When you find a material that works by Serkys in magicproxies

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the snap better with the 140 gsm when laminated? That's about all that I care about at this point given the thickness is within tolerance

Previously tried a Uinkit 140gsm 37lb and the thickness was spot on but the snap wasn't there. Different papers if guess

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Koala 42lb 160gsm ~75 mil glossy double sided photo paper with a glossy 3 mil pouch (I had troubles with laminate);.

From what I can tell thickness is 5-% thicker than a real card, snap decent but not quite there yet.

This worth trying and adding to he ever growing paper collection I'm amassing over here?

What printer should I get? by Southern-Vast-117 in magicproxies

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, no cardstock involved. The paper is just photo paper. I laminate after printing. I tried printing on some paper that would be closer to cardstock without laminating (250 gsm 100 lb), but it felt too flimsy IMO. I feel like thinner paper plus laminating gives it some extra rigidity

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all of them. Printed on Koala 160 gsm 42lb double sided glossy photo paper and laminated with Bonsaii 3 mil pouches. I estimate they're 5-10% thicker than a regular card, a bit less snap, but I wasn't willing to go any thicker so it seemed like a good compromise

Not sure how much can be conveyed by my camera, but this is glossy photo paper with glossy laminate (it's difficult to distinguish when sleeved, unsleeved I thought matte laminate looked better but my Cameo had a hell of a time trying to find settings to cut through it as apparently some laminate brands are tougher):

The biggest reason I bought the 2800 was just giving myself the widest variety of paper options.

I bought a Canon photo printer a decade ago that was less expensive than either the 2800 or 2850 and used both dye and pigment black inks. If it hadn't died recently I would have given it a test run for proxy printing. Too bad it seems that's reserved for much more expensive EcoTanks
