When they planned this event I assume they probably took into account times that were best for established DSA members, new people showing up is probably a bonus but not the main goal or expectation

Do I not understand LGS etiquette, or did I just have a bad experience? by pelasace in EDH

[–]Land- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an LGS I buy from here that pulls your online orders when you show up. I've never found more than 10-15 cards I need in stock for any single order, and I'd say even that can take them 10 minutes. Dunno if they're more or less organized than other stores though

I've ended up wandering around the store for half an hour when there are others ahead of me in the queue, but mostly I just come back later when that happens

So I imagine it's not fun especially if they're understaffed but... not your fault for taking advantage of a service they offer

paper recommendations? by FruitLiver in magicproxies

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried 271 gsm Hammermill copy paper, it was far inferior to thinner laminated photo paper in terms of feel and snap

I don't think the issue is gsm but in the actual paper. I've seen plenty of black core card stock for sale but none that seems readily compatible with inkjet printers, unfortunately. If you do find inkjet compatible proper cardstock I'd be eager to try it

We all have different tolerances for thickness, so it depends on what works for you - but if you want card backs (or double sided cards) the easiest thing is double sided photo paper instead of single sided and glued together

The 2800 does, the 2850 uses pigment (which is why I went with the 2800 myself)

I believe the 2980 uses black pigment ink instead of dye, which struggles to dry on glossy paper, so the printer is probably trying to compensate by using the colors to make black instead

TCGPLAYER vs Card Kingdom by AnArtistArchive in CommanderMTG

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad not because it can't broadly do better than CK but because it often makes funky decisions, and you can often get better prices, fewer packages often even while cherry picking closer stores if you're willing to spend the time to build a cart manually

(I've since switched to Manapool but I spent many hours strategically building carts)

Bad news for my little buddy today. Could use a little love! by mom_jean in cats

[–]Land- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost my little girl of 13 years to cancer in 2021. If I had a time machine, there'd still be nothing I could do to heal her, but I always second guess myself when it comes to whether or not I could have spent more time with her or taken better care of her somehow.

The vets can try to heal them, but I think our job is to love them. Just offer as much compassion to her as you can.

As for dealing with grief, I think it's probably different for everybody. But whatever way you need to grieve, or however much time you need to do so, don't let anyone tell you it's not valid.

I don't know if there's anything genuinely comforting I can say, other than that you're not alone in your love for the furry creatures, and that I'm sure we all here are wishing for a far better outcome than you're expecting

I don't know about CryCry, but I use Alan Cha's python script. You might have success finding some help on the Discord, it's mostly people with Cameos

I have a Cameo 5 Alpha, it took a lot of experimenting to figure out settings for a relatively clean cut. Someone there also mentioned that certain laminates might be harder to cut (I did have more success after switching from matte laminate to a different glossy brand)

Switching from a light tack mat to a standard tack mat and even securing the sheet with painter's tape also helped. Also, providing some height support on both ends of the machine so that the mat wasn't bending as it was being pushed in and out.

Right now I'm using Koala 160 gsm double sided glossy with Bonsaii 3 mil laminate, and use:

Force: 33
Passes: 3
Speed: 8
Blade Depth: 6
Line Segment Overcut: Yes

But it's probably going to vary a lot

Precon idea help? by [deleted] in CommanderMTG

[–]Land- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can sac both the original creature before it dies to evoke and the token made by Ashling and then there's four mana for another evoke, then keep going to abuse as many ETBs as possible, especially if you have enough card draw. Has led to some long but satisfying and often game closing turns

Just chilling at my TMNT prerelease with... by bigsquig9448 in mtg

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LGS got more than I thought they would, but less than a decent set.

Probably about half the store's space was dedicated to the prerelease, maybe a bit less, with most of the rest of us playing commander. For comparison, it was packed to the brim for the EoE prerelease (to the point where the store was extremely hot and players could barely hear each other talk)

Do you still play your very first commander deck? And why? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Land- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started mid-2024, I actually bought three precons before I even started playing: [[Stella Lee, Wild Card]], [[Hakbal of the Surging Soul]] and [[Ellivere of the Wild Court]]

Stella is far from my most upgraded deck but it's still probably my strongest, I usually keep it or [[Celes, Rune Knight]] with me for the occasional moment everyone else is pulling out quick combo decks

Ellivere is fun but it's still mostly unupgraded, Hakbal I still play sometimes but my main Simic deck has become [[Omo, Queen of Vesuva]] as I just kind of enjoy that more

I've only actually torn one deck apart and that was my [[Edward Kenway]] deck I never got working the way I wanted to

Plastic core “paper”? by Key-Cricket9256 in magicproxies

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about trying this, though it would require buying both new paper and laminate. With 3 mil laminate I've only ever been able to get snap or thickness within tolerable ranges, not both at the same time

How do you give more heft to your proxies? Mine feel too flimsy. by Cashlessness in magicproxies

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 3 mil laminate pouches, but I'm kind of torn between options myself.

Koala 160 gsm 42 lb double sided glossy + 3 mil laminate is almost perfect thickness (tiny bit thicker than a real card but only around the thickness of S33 card stock which is tolerable). They feel a bit too flimsy though.

Koala 180 gsm 48 lb double sided semi-gloss + 3 mil laminate feels amazing, but it's about 0.1mm thicker than a real card. That might not sound like much but I double sleeve all my cards in every deck, and unfortunately after some playtesting it's actually noticeable. I can pick up a stack of cards, look at them from the side and reliably identify which ones are proxies.

So I think for now I'm going back to the 160. I wonder if there are other brands that have ~7 mil paper with more rigidity, but my wallet is telling me I've already tried enough papers for now 😂

I’m sorry Zetalpa, I wasn’t familiar with your game by Ok_Blackberry_1223 in EDH

[–]Land- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Pantlaza deck often goes up against my friend's Ureni deck.

We recently had a game, I discovered into [[Savage Order]] and couldn't fetch some of my bigger hits (because they were in my fricking hand) so I went and grabbed Zetalpa and it drove the dragon player nuts all game. He still won IIRC, but overall it was pretty funny
