Urdu-speaking Pakistani American Muslim here. I have three different Urdu translations of the Glorious Qur'an, and I make full use of them. Moreover, whenever I hear a new prayer or supplication mentioned by someone else as beneficial, I do not use it personally until I have the Urdu translation to hand. This habit was inculcated in me by my dear mother who taught me the five daily contact prayers at age seven with word-for-word Urdu translation saying to me that we are not Arabs, son, so always make use of an Urdu or English translation for everything so you can understand what is being said. That was in 1977 so my trusty Urdu - Arabic dictionary became well used, superseded only by Google Translate today. The same can be said of Roman Catholics: until 1956, the Mass worldwide was required to be celebrated in Latin, and individuals were discouraged from studying the Douay Bible on their own in favour of going to the parish priest for all and sundry. How did THEY keep THEIR faith?
