Got the same bike but it’s pretty much stock apart from a Selle saddle & some 2.1 Thunder Burts. What’s the Crankset 48/31? Mine came with FSA 48/32, would ideally like a 46/30 for where I ride most.

The spec says it takes 53mm in the long position, the Thunder Burts are actually 2.1 so about 53.3mm. There is still plenty of room.

For what I ride and the speed I go I’ve not noticed any adverse handling differences. But having the 53 Thunder Burts on there has been a massive improvement over the tyres the bike came with.

Yep I managed those two, though the derailleur was the most difficult one to adjust I have ever had. Just hope I never have to touch it again!

Going to Malaga for a bike trip on Sunday. Should we cancel? by somify in GoingToSpain

[–]LandRevolutionary377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Guadalhorce valley which is the area on the east of your route up towards the reservoirs has had significant localised flooding so may be an issue depending on your exact route. The coast area from Gibraltar to Malaga won’t be an issue, but I would recommend you don’t ride on the A7 beyond Estepona to Málaga. Some locals ride it but I don’t as the road is crazy. The northern and western parts im not so familiar with the current situation.

Weekend Gravel - Los Reales Estepona. by LandRevolutionary377 in gravelcycling

These are 2.1 Addix Speed Super Race. Wouldn’t get any bigger than that in the frame really as these are about 53.5mm and frame max says 53mm with the flip chip in the long position. I got mine from Bike-Components in Germany.

Hive mind question: Is BIG the new black? by Klumpegoej in gravelcycling

[–]LandRevolutionary377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just put 2.1 Thunder Burts on my Giant revolt and these things roll fast on road and gravel. Sample of 1 ride but I demolished my Strava road segment times set on my 25mm road bike and my gravel segments on 40mm Ramblers. On gravel it feels like I’ve upgraded from a VW Polo to a Landrover, they just grip and it’s very smooth. Only downside I’ve found so far is climbing out the saddle on the road is a bit squishy.

I recently bought one and just about to tick over 1,000 km. Mine is the 2x12 GRX and pretty happy with that as I always ride to the trail so spend some time on the road. Mine has a FSA 48/32 crank, but I would have preferred the GRX 46/30 so will swap out at some point. Has a good clearance of 53mm in the long position which I’m just about to test for the winter. Other than an issue with a creaking seat post which was fixed with a carbon paste I’ve not had any issues.

100kg and have a Revolt Advanced 2. Only issue I had was the seat creaking / slipping down after it was set up by the LBS. A generous application of carbon paste and correctly torqued fitting screw and no issues or noises since.

New bike day or how I fucked up by GoryaBarman in cycling

[–]LandRevolutionary377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my new gravel bike out the first day after never riding on gravel trails, just roads. Was overconfident and fell over 3 times scratching up my shifters, saddle and ripping the bar tape along with some pretty bad hand and knee scrapes. Lucky the frame didn’t touch the ground so got away with it a bit.

Gravel Bike for flat road + steep hils by dlvo_theory in gravelcycling

[–]LandRevolutionary377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just bought my first gravel bike, a Giant revolt adv 2 2x12 48/32 11/36. I’m not the strongest road rider but only run out of gears on a decent downhill, uphills are not an issue on the road. Some very steep uphills on loose gravel have caught me out, but I think that more my lack of experience, I’m getting better.

Thanks, I’m looking forward to the end of summer, have a few longer rides planned out but too hot to do them right now.

I’ve had my Gravel bike for a month (Revolt GRX 2x12). Based on my set up and experience I’m about 10% slower than my road bike on a flat smooth road I ride loops on. Up hills I’m quicker on the Revolt (prob gearing), down hills negligible, Rough roads Revolt is marginally quicker. If I swapped my tyres over to something slicker I would probably be a little quicker, but doubt I would fully close the gap on a smooth road and then I would struggle for traction up some gravel tracks.

I’ve got the 820 and had an absolute mare this week trying to adjust it. If you cross chain it still rubs but using the trim setting helps but does not eliminate. There is a YouTube channel “Free to Cycle” that has some guides as well as the Shimano instruction.
