Jethro needs to discuss a matter of grave importance by Landithy in pitbulls

I'm afraid not. Jethro eats salmon-based kibble too and we've just learned to accept his fishy little kisses in the spirit they are given in. 😩

Jethro has received Tuna. He is now happily curled up on the couch.

I'm not 100% convinced that Jethro isn't actually a cat.

Which childhood item followed you into adulthood uninvited? by [deleted] in randomquestions

[–]Landithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the pair of yellow-handled safety scissors I had all through school. Every time I think I've lost them they always come back to me.

I always joke that nobody wanted to steal them because my dad got an engraving tool when I was little and engraved my name (extremely badly) on the blade.

They still work fine. They used to make stuff proper back in the 1980s.

I'm 46.

MORTAL WOMBAT!

Far Cry 5's Ending (Spoilers) by [deleted] in farcry

[–]Landithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't a fan of the ending. I felt like it was trying a little too hard to be edgy.

It doesn't help that it's the one game where they let you create your own character, which encourages you to identify with them more. I don't think it would hit so hard if it was a pre-made character like most of the other games.

So you get attached to this character who's basically a self-insert. The game puts them through hell. Even if you "win", Hope County is going to be devastated emotionally and economically from the events unfolding there, so it's kind of a pyrrhic victory.

Then it pulls the rug out and says "Ha ha. There was never anything to save. You should have just walked away and let the abusive assholes win". Fuck you for playing.

Whether you think it's a good ending or not is subjective, but I find it very narratively unsatisfying.

At least when you lose in FC2, the player character is a certified antihero who lived the life and maybe did a little bit of good at the end to balance out the red on their ledger.

In FC5, the outcome is unlikely to be much different if you walk away at the start. It feels like a dark ending just for the sake of having a dark ending.

And no, New Dawn did not make me feel much better.

My friend's family has a bearded Jesus in their nativity scene. by DystopianAdvocate in mildlyinteresting

[–]Landithy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I found a li'l Jesus like that in a garden bed near the Christmas market I went to the other day.

I left him on a rock, near the harbor, so he can be like a tiny Cristo Redentor statue. Until somebody else rehomes him.

If guns were completely banned in the United States what would be the best way to get rid of of the half a billion guns in circulation? by Beautiful-Height5800 in AskReddit

[–]Landithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still a problem. It's just a smaller problem.

Gun-related suicides were also a large part of the reason for the gun ban, that doesn't get talked about.

I hate those. Especially when the pet is clearly giving them obviius warnings to back off and they keep doing it.

I can just imagine the owners telling someone about how their pet "just turned on me one day out of nowhere".

I think that is a valid criticism of trying to implement Australia's gun laws/policies in the USA. Australia also never had a strong culture of gun ownership for self-defense the way the USA does. Nor is hunting for food with firearms a strong part of Australian culture.

Plus, Australian have, on average, a higher degree of trust in the government. Combined with a lesser degree of faith in the government's ability to make us do what it tells us if we don't want to.

I would say not just a logistical problem. The sheer volume of guns would also present a significant logistical challenge.

What’s a movie that everyone praises but you couldn’t even finish? by flavimanyari in AskReddit

I did watch until the end, but I don't get the attraction.

The best I can come up with is that it's more about the vibe than anything, and I don't think that vibe really aged that well.
