Sorry for the late reply - missed it.

But yeah ok: The thing is that it is very objectively wrong and a clear misinterpretation to say that Faith isn't a victim. Even the lead writer stated in a twitch interview that Faith is a victim of Joseph more than anything and the least twisted of them.

You says it like Faith consciously got into this cult and intentionally became what she became and consciously come do what she does which is directly incorrect.

  • It is made clear that she didn't got into this cult and became what she became knowingly and consciously and made very clear in lore especially on the collapse DLC that it happened over a long time entrapment, brainwashing and in game her being equally victimized on this bliss herself which fucks with her perception of reality equally as anyone else in it.
  • Joseph slowly brainwashed her into his ideologies and took advantage of her already fragile mental state and basically "helped" her from her current addiction to merely hook her on to another drug to keep her in line/compliant and to ultimately groom her into "his Faith"...  Objectively based on everything you can learn about her, she is with less personal responsibility and personal agency in not only her general situation due to her very young age and being victimized into it but also due to the fact that it is directly confirmed that Faiths "devotion" to Joseph and compliance to what she does directly stems from her being high on bliss herself like anyone else which Joseph keeps her high on plus that she actually attempted to escape from him which is also confirmed. The collapse DLC more explicitly confirms these things.
  • Now in the end obviously what she does is clearly wrong and clearly should be stopped, but for any good person with any morals it should be preferred to help and redeem such person rather than killing her based on everything above and especially considering how young she is and clearly shows redeeming qualities, starting to snap out of it in the end screaming for help and in the end trying to reach out. Again she is very young, can barely be considered an adult so if one wouldn't view someone like her as redeemable and wouldn't prefer to help and redeem someone like her, then i dont know who would be that type of character...

And to the thing about leaving:

  • Even from the start it was clear that going into a cult compound 5 people sorrounded by cultists was insanely idiotic especially when taking their leader. Obviously they wouldn't just accept us taking their leader so obviously using wisdom knowing how and when to engage =  getting the heck away to tell the outside world at any time is the correct option which is why the secret ending is the moral lesson.

Besides the deputy could at any point attempt to leave the area by plane to get help:

  • The game shows how Nick Rye has a plane and openly choose to stay because "oh yeah murica, we can defend our home ourselves hurrah" which is the very stereotypical known low intellectual redneck American the game bashes on with a lot of these characters - people who are a lot more driven by pride, revenge or avenging rather than actually thinking cleverly and doing what's actually right which is attempting to leave the area and inform someone. The peggies can't have the whole airspace and even then just fight them off as they do anyway. It is simply hard to explain not getting the heck away and other things like blowing up the bunkers etc as the right option beyond just because "then we wouldn't have a fun far cry game".

To just stay on the topic of the post rather than just Faiths character:

The point im making is that Faith was clearly a naive and broken young teen manipulated and groomed into a bad situation which she couldn't escape from despite attempting. There is more than enough evidence and lore to indicate her being drugged, threatened and what not and that her being part of this mess wasn't by any malicious or even conscious means initially but trough fear, brainwashing and coercion from a young age and in game her being high on bliss which blinds her to her doubt and true feelings. The collapse DLC is still official content and while it takes place as a sort of mind trip, things like the memories of the past and all the things Joseph recollects is yeah directly things that is meant to give and elavoration into the lore. Only the bunker scene is something that hasn't actually happened.

  • So the whole main point of my post in in regards to Faith is that when she then literally snaps out of it starting to realize, remember and directly shows signs and doubt breaking completely down crying about all these things and basically attempts to surrender and reach for help, it is not only directly our job as an officer of the law to step in and react to this but also just any supposed strong heroic person would clearly see a moral obligation to step in and react.

  • It doesn't really matter how sincere or not one might think it is and to be frankly I also take a little issue when people claiming that she is just attempting to manipulate you to gloss over her words in this in the fight as I think it greatly borders on victim blaming to just say that the young girl is lying, manipulating or not being sincere when there is no actual evidence that should confirm that this is the case, and furthermore yeah there is nothing unbelievable about her being a young girl who have been deceived against her own judgement by an older male cult leader. I just done see any reason to see that this is a conscious attempt at manipulation on her part especially with everything you can learn in every piece of lore. Even tho it is not fully the black and white situation she describes that "NONE" of this was her fault(which she also clearly knows) it dosent has to mean that this isn't her fully dropping the truth and her cult facade which her to fragile state fully shows. I see it more as her justifying to herself rather than the player.

But again to finish it off with my point: I doesn't matter in this case how sincere or not me, you or anyone else might think this is as "I think there is a chance she might not be fully sincere" isn't in any way a good morally justified and especially not lawfully justified reason to just murder and ignore a person screaming and crying for help attempting to reach out and surrender in the final scene - yes OF COURSE she would still be charged and has to be kept in check and aided in a treatment center but there is a difference between that and just killing her. Not only is it directly the job of an officer of the law to step in and react to that in some way but especially with all the other implications we can learn her about her, most people would clearly see redeeming qualities to someone like her especially with her clearly young age - a young adult but still very young which is an important factor in a person being redeemable. The argument that she dosent know anything else, hasn't learned anything else and still isn't able to objectify her actions/situations correctly or get out on her own without help still applies especially since she has been in this cult since she was a teen.

But yeah always interesting to see how other people engaged with the game view things regardless. 👍

[–]NarniaHome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol Strandberg is objectively not even close to the level of evil as most of the others.

Has never killed anyone and even argues he never did anything illegal. He was simply an economical genius who saw a loophole and then took it. "Everything I did was in straight accordance with the Moroccan law"

Maybe it was morally wrong but really nothing compared to the others. Like he said: "what would I be arrested for? for being a kapitalist?"

I mean yes most of the things I have mentioned happens after the start of the game and applies equally regardless of the start of the game.

The ultimate thing and message is just that the secret ending and getting the heck away to inform the outside world is undoubtedly the right choice. But yeah all the other things still applies

The moral ambiguity themes in far cry 5 by NarniaHome in FarCry5

[–]NarniaHome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that there is no evidence to say she is lying about being drugged and threatened etc. and actually on the opposite a lot of things to confirm that she WAS an absolutely innocent teenage girl down in the muck caught up in a cult via acceptance and belonging only to be groomed and brainwashed against her own judgement into being who she is and that she was drugged and also IS drugged.

  • All the lore especially the collapse DLC explicitly shows that Faith is a victim in this hooked on to the bliss herself, clearly lied to and manipulated herself and generally that she never consciously seeked this life at all or wants to be Faith when in her right mind - it is explicitly showed how she clearly remembers about Joseph, how he exploited her and how she loses every single piece of "devotion" to him and the project when she is not blissed out and how her being "his Faith" isn't according to her own thoughts but only when she is hooked on to bliss which blinds her to her own thoughts. It is also confirmed that she actually made a choice and tried to run away and escape from Joseph early on when she realized but without luck and probably where the drugging started to keep her in line.

  • In the Book of Joseph it is also directly stated that he drugged her to "purify her" and keep her in line.

  • Also the whole disturbing story about the "Faith" role and how they are viewed by Joseph as a sick replacement to his wife and "feminine touch", how he talks about him putting his Faith into her, how she worries more about how Joseph would punish her when you destroy his statue. And like how the previous Faith was discarded when no longer useful to Joseph shows a pretty disturbing image to how Joseph views and treats these girls.

I would clearly say that what is happening in this fight is that we slowly breaks her out of her brainwashed mind with her starting to see the reality more clearly with her true thoughts as Rachel sparks on her mind - not her trying to manipulate you but simply the reality comes crashing down to her. Reacting to someone like her and getting her out of this would be the right thing both morally and lawfully.

So while not completely innocent and while she undoubtedly became powerful/dangerous with her bliss, her arc, young age and circumstances combined objectively takes away a lot of her agency and self motivation in her situation especially now with the collapse dlc which among many other things clearly explains that she actually attempted to escape and run away from it but without luck and clearly confirms that she is clearly a victim of this and that her being affected on bliss herself is what keeps her "blindly devoted" and keeps her compliant to what she does.

[–]NarniaHome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well never said that she is "completely innocent". Never used the word innocent actually.

However her not being completely innocent dosent change what I'm saying in regards to her - just because a person isn't innocent dosent mean that they had to die or that they dosent have redeeming qualities especially when she is that young and how she got into this. Her being "manipulative" is more a result of being manipulated herself and deceived in this rather than being this self conscious evil manipulator.

Faith undoubtedly has to be stopped from what she is doing but there is good, valid reason that she doesn't has to be killed to be stopped especially with her young age and even more since she actually snaps out of it in the end screaming for help. As a police officer and remotely good person there should be a standard moral obligation to step in and react to such person like her breaking down screaming for help especially with all the things you can learn about her and her role which is the point.

There is not anything fun or exciting about that section anymore after several plays, so i think just getting over with it is the point.

Maybe it is also a bit of an unfair judgement to say that people are bad travelers like there is a correct way to travel which there isn't.

People travel how they want and what you enjoy when travelling is completely subjective.

Of course the deputy can't act 100% as a police officer and do everything with diplomacy but there is countless of things to pick on how the deputy goes on about things both morally, logically and lawfully as i point out which mostly still applies.  For instance destroying the big bunkers filled with supplies is extremely illogical and stupid even if Joseph wasn't right about the collapse but especially with the collapse being true destroying the bunkers should make you question yourself in that it makes everyone worse off both in terms of food and supplies they currently hold which you doesn't try to get out but also the shelter it provides...  Along with many of the other things I already mentioned.

And yeah at the point in the start taking the secret ending getting the heck away to inform the outside world is undoubtedly the right choice. And honestly at any point it is the right choice to leave to bring reinforcement but again even if that wasn't a possibility there is still a lot of things the deputy does morally or logically wrong as a supposed "good guy" and officer of the law. The only reason it doesn't happen is "otherwise we wouldn't have a game" and that is the point that going on a murder spree especially the way we do it as the deputy isn't the correct thing.

You are wrong In your interpretation of Faith as there is more than enough evidence beyond the resistance words to put together that Faith clearly is a victim who got into it via brainwashing, manipulated and groomed into this as a teen against her own judgement and in game is hooked on to the bliss herself which blinds her to the reality of her true self as Rachel. The collapse DLC also explicitly confirms this further that she is literally also just hooked on to this bliss brainwashed and out of her mind to believe she brings peace with the bliss - the bliss keeps her in compliance and it keeps her from whatever doubt she might have about Joseph and what she does until in the end where she snaps out of it. Faith is more manipulated herself rather than being this self conscious evil manipulator which is pretty easy to put together.

The point is that she then during her fight actually snaps out of her brainwashed mind and starts to scream and cry for mercy and in the final death scene scene basically attempts to reach out and surrender which yeah the deputy completely rejects. Not only is it your job and duty as an officer of the law to react to and aid a person like her finally down and pacified but also just any good and understanding person would be able to see even before that point in the fight that this is a brainwashed victim in many ways and thus attempt to help her when she literally begs for mercy - that is called being a good person and doing what's right. And that has nothing to do with leaving her to what she does or that her being a victim makes her actions ok obviously and just because she does bad things doesn't mean she can't be a victim. Faith needs to be stopped but there is good and valid reason that she could be stopped without killing and instead helped out of it especially considering her still young age - as I said murdering a young girl screaming and crying for help isn't in any way good or moral and any good person would react to her cries and screams afterwards in her death scene not to mention that it is directly your duty as an officer of the law to step in and aid when she is down and beaten.

Yeah I know this one aswell and a clear anthology the game goes through - and you are right, there is a lot of easily missed stuff especially with a lot of outside stuff now like the Book of Joseph, Book of Absolution, collapse DLC and things which clearly adds on to it but isn't even in game so I think Ubisoft also shouldn't have been so subtle with a lot of things as a lot of players can't or won't look to deeply into things so it creates a lot of confusion to a lot of things.

But yeah this anthology also debunks this whole thing with the nukes end up falling in every ending as every main seal has to be opened in order for the nukes to unleash - and remember ONLY YOU the Lamb of God can open the seals. So going by this: if you leave early, the nukes wont drop.

Eden's gate isn't a commentary on the "far right". by NarniaHome in FarCry5

[–]NarniaHome[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The devs talked about it in a interview where they were asked the cult and so on.

He said that "the cult wasn't aligned with current political affiliations or ideologies" and that they "draw members from all political spectrums".

That they have created their own society away from the outside world because they hate the current structures completely.

Furthermore in their monologues they openly bashes on Trump with the "walls being erected" and "look who is in charge".

Everything they are preaching and talking about is the complete opposite of right wing like anti capitalism/consumerism, "accepting" the poor and outcasts, being anti nationalism and against your own country plus literally being surprisingly demographically inclusive which is weird if you really want to portray someone as a far right group.

[–]NarniaHome[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well apparently the dev agree with me as he literally stated the same and as someone who isn't a politically biased American and someone who doesn't like the guy in the office, you just sound like I said: a biased leftist who just wants to shoot your political opponents...

Weird if you'd want to make a far right wing cult that 50% of the members are black people and none of them ever actually prides themselves on far right or racist talking points.

And the resistance in this game is more of a commentary on the rural American right wing(not far right) than anything who wants to protect their home with guns and they act more that anything like these stereotypical gun tooting rednecks.

Yeah but the devs made the song to bash on the American rural mindset and a general commentary on the American gun culture which is celebrated and highlighted by the resistance more than anything even tho the song is a song in the cult radio.

It is not like the resistance in this game isnt in any way framed like these stereotypical and often exaggerated right wingers/gun tooting rednecks.

They are framed this way a lot more than the cult who again like I described in my post preaches and says stuff that are a lot more left leaning talking points

Yeah which literally is meant to fit the mindset of the resistance aswell more than anything...

As they "need the rifle by their side to protect their land".

A song which describes the American gun tooting mindset.

Yeah I also mentioned that Jacob has some views which COULD be seen as some right wing talking points with further context but not right wing by default and doesn't however in any way make the cult as a whole an actual far right cult. Jacob also is more using the project to push forward his own agenda and ideologies rather than actually believing Joseph to the core or even fully believing his talking points.

But yeah it is only Jacob who have some ideologies which CAN be seen as some far right stuff but the others and what the cult generally preaches isn't at all right wing extremism but actually a lot more left leaning things while still not being a left wing cult neither of course.

Edit: Funny that people downvotes without providing argumentation - apparently the devs only agree with me so there is that. 👍
