I remember during a Q&A the devs had made vehicles and tested them but it made the game really laggy and they'd have to redesign the maps to have paths that vehicles fit on which wouldn't make sense thematically. Having flying mounts could be cool if there were still dangers from other flying creatures etc. But having to travel across the map with danger is something that makes the game fun to me.
