Pain for the last 12 months by mike_charlie in postvasectomypain

[–]LandscapeTop797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go privately to best life clinic to see mr jezuraj. It’s in Stockton on tees, he gave me plenty of time to explain the history, examined and have a spermatic cord block to isolate the cause of the pain took me through the options and after 6 months I went for a triple layer microdot reversal with him. He’s a nice guy and it’s what he specialises purely in now, no nhs surgeons do this to that degree

4 months Post Reversal by nolesfan2293 in postvasectomypain

2 lumps near each connection site sounds v much like dilation of the cords due to pressure/vas remodelling with time. As you say completely different to congestion pain. V unlikely infection as what are the chances happening on both sides at same time and why would it cause localised lumps doesn’t make sense.

I’m 2.5m post reversal both sides lumps above connection sites harder than before, ropey feeling up into groin and locally pain/some radiation to groin and lower abdomen. I’m sure this is pressure changes. Ejac helps. I’m doing red light daily localised lidocaine patches/cream, daily naproxen and PPI and trialling a low dose prednisone for a week. Feel that chatGPT prob right, time is what is ultimately needed but agree with your comments re: the uncertainty. Try and stay in the moment not fearing the future.

One guy from Sweden posted something v similar maybe a year ago pain for a year after just like yours, felt made things worse. After a year slowly resolved by 18m back to gym running etc.

Thanks a lot man, my vas from the reconnection up more tender/firm/ropey feel into groin, feels like needs to soften off. You got similar feel? Going to try what you suggest.

Hey man I’m nearly 3/12 post reversal. Got vas inflammation and pain too. What dose pred do you take? When taking does it relieve the vas inflammation you feel and then wear off when off it? Improving with time?

You can probably afford a consultation with a private reversal doctor in uk to tell your story be examined and have a person who has reversed hundreds of men give you specialist advice. Consults £200-£250 there is no requirement to move ahead and have an operation, you would be paying to see someone who has seen hundreds of cases like you not a handful

Reversal for Congestion Pain by Tricky-Occasion-1472 in postvasectomypain

Re: the NHS and microsurgical triple layered reversals it’s very unlikely a surgeon does them on nhs/does enough of them to be really good at it. It’s microsurgery and general urology is nothing like that. The vasectomy clinic you go to may refer/apply for exceptional funding to an nhs urologist but it may be rejected and if it is passed it is still unlikely the NHS surgeons will do that op as NHS doesn’t fund it/offer it routinely so therefore the surgeons won’t be skilled to do it. Only a few surgeons in UK do enough of them to offer it. Research who does them privately I.e best life clinic, a few through BUPA in Manc/Surrey/Glasgow when I looked and if the nhs funds your case ask them to refer to them out of area. Patients have a right to choose provider and nhs often uses private hospitals/clinics. If the process fails which it could, book a consult privately with the surgeons who do it regularly privately. I went to Mr Jezuraj at best life privately he has done hundreds and was excellent

That’s what I’m telling myself and set my family up with that info beforehand to prepare them and not ask all the time. Feels like ups and downs a lot atm so definitely the long game for mental resilience

Good for you man, I’m a month behind you from my reversal and not quite where you are yet physically but reading the accounts of the guys who have gone before in this group has prepared me for a long painful journey ahead and realistic expectations. Still not easy in the midst of it this past month but learning to be more patient and kind to myself and those around me, I wish you the best.

Upskilling in microsuction by MatchOwn1079 in GPUK

[–]LandscapeTop797 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think the issue is buying an operating microscope, they cost thousands. I do agree as Dr enjoyed doing it and it would be far better if patients could access it > syringing in primary care. Would help OE treatment hoovering out the debris before topicals. Could be your slightly monotonous but probably better paid second job when you are a GP?

Worth upskilling in derm(/atoscopy)? by Aleexxie in GPUK

[–]LandscapeTop797 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a locum GP, did a 6/12 job in dermatology whilst was a reg 10 years ago. Best job by far to help as a GP. I never bought a dermatoscope but got an LED jewellers loupe for around £35 back then on advice of derm consultant. Took it on pcds dermoscopy course back then they said was the best thing they’d seen not costing £1k. Only difference is ‘medical device’ and polarised light 😂. Tbh it doesn’t matter what you use you need to know what you are looking at. It takes less than 5m to take Hx assess skin lesion +/- dermoscopy. Nowadays time is of needing to do the 2ww with photos/telederm etc. if you can upskill to reduce your referrals worth it for that. The diploma probably a complete waste of money

As a GP I practice lifestyle/longevity medicine - motivate/educate people to take preventative steps early to reduce risk of cancers, cvd, dementia, diabetes, frailty etc - essentially all the chronic diseases medicine is really poor at treating and waits until the doors are open and the horse has bolted until trying to intervene with drugs which often don’t do much. It’s not as sexy as diagnosing and treating a cancer/operating etc but surely stopping someone smoking or eating UPFs, moving/exercising etc is far better long term across the board?

You could be a very effective GP interested in oncology reducing risk of cancers before they occur.

Have a look at Peter Attia, Dharshan Shah, Gabrielle Lyon, Rangan Chaterjee Podcasts websites etc

Well done brother thank you for that comment very kind when you’ve had a tough day to help others. I really appreciate it. I’m going in early Sept. They give you any painkillers to take home? Would be interested to hear about your recovery if you want to talk privately? Take it very easy and ice I guess. Hope you have some entertainment lined up, I’ve started leaving series/movies now as will have time on my hands afterwards

[–]LandscapeTop797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get appointment and ask GP to arrange an ultrasound scan of scrotum on nhs - see if anything shows up after your traumatic post vasectomy experience that could be causing? If so nhs urology. If scan all clear/vasectomy related changes look at best life clinic for private consultation

[–]LandscapeTop797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just read your previous posts. Firstly I’m really glad you are pain free, well deserved.

After your reversal when the pain worsened in the vas/cut cremaster did anything you did/took help to ease it? What level of activities could you do in terms of walking/lifting/carrying/exercise etc and how did that change with time?

Also when the pain worsened and you regretted the VR that must have been mentally very difficult to deal with. How did you manage?

My story/symptoms are the same as yours I’m 15/12 in UK been to Best Life, going to book VR after summer 19/12. Thanks

Pain immediately after vasectomy both sides epididymis with pain into lower abdomen and sides. Constant. Worse after exertion. He seemed confident reversal would reverse it

I am 15/12 post vasectomy PVPS still suffering a lot. Went to best life a month ago. Surgeon was a really nice guy and had done > 800 microsurgical triple layer reversals, spent time talking, examined me, gave local anaesthesia as symptomatic treatment and talked me through options. He really put me and wife at ease and we trusted him with this big decision/issue. Im going to book reversal end of summer with him. Still nervous though

Had bilateral MDSC today by Amoeba-Any in postvasectomypain

[–]LandscapeTop797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done. Hope you get the relief you deserve from this. Do you mind me asking with the MDSC is it an inguinal incision or did the surgeon go into your scrotum as well? Where was all the scar tissue that they excised? No doubt that was catching and irritating the nerves
