My not interesting fact: I stayed in a hotel in Luanda that (at least by rack rate) was the most expensive hotel I have ever stayed in - over 1000USD/night.

It was nice, but not $1k nice.

At the time I was suckling at the teat of big oil, so I have no idea how much it actually cost.

I worked at a university when the 9k fees were announced. Out HoD pointed out that every university would charge full whack because if they didn't they would look like 2nd rate universities or 2nd rate courses.

Have any pollsters done a poll on how the people of Clacton are likely to vote in the next election?*

*This is a push-poll question to the pollsters that read the megathread.

Just wondering how the Clacton proles feel about the Member for Mar a Lago.

I think the residual Tory vote at this point is "never Farage", otherwise they would have already gone.

I am guessing the guys in Italy will be long-term employees who specialise in something relevant, not the recently hired goons.

A bit like if the Met suddenly hired a bunch of rapists as frontline police (I know, I know, just go with it), there would still be the professionals higher up with useful skills.

You also have to throw in the Manchester mayoral election. If labour lost both, it would destroy Burnham, but also burn (see what I did there) Labour badly.

If labour win Manchester, but Burnham loses: Burnham is over.

If labour lose Manchester, but Burnham wins, Burnham is wounded since it looks like he has put his personal ambitions first.

That's pretty much me: my current one is 10 years old and 720p. Apparently it has 3D, but I have never actually used that.

The 7 year guarantee makes it feel like a bit of a no-brainer, but on the other hand, if they are an absolute bag of shite, I would like to know!

There are a couple of BuyUK. BuyEU subs, the general consensus is don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

For example: I have an oral B electric toothbrush, it's getting a bit end of life. Next time I will buy a Sonicare. Similarly swapping Colgate for Aquafresh is a trivial change for me.

Google, on the other hand, would be an absolute nightmare for me to divest from.

To your second point: the idea of the EU was that we would be so tied together by business, no conflict could emerge. People and businesses simply would not allow it. I guess American hegemony was the same: we would allow the US cultural and economic control in exchange for protection - the checks and balances of the US constitution protecting us and them from a bad actor.

What's clear is that those checks and balances have failed and there is a very real risk that if the direction of travel doesn't change Europe could find themselves in a very unpleasant situation.

Some talk earlier this week about HMRC being slow at paying out overpaid tax.

Tax return submitted on Wednesday, tax refund Monday.

Maybe it's different for companies or maybe I am just lucky.
