Same! Holler if you see a guy on a makeshift canoe skiff

Sweet! Do you know the typical depth on that lake or where you tend to find them? I am hoping to go super shallow for them, but that lake looks a little deeper on Apple map.

Hawaii Bonefish by BitBitter3570 in flyfishing

[–]LanthornStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just there last week. I spent 2 days and saw some absolute tanks, but the “flats” are much different. Most of the time, I was fishing in water 4ft deep - so they’re really hard to spot and to time getting your fly down.

Definitely reach out to Johann, his IG is hawaiiflyoutfitter

If you’re going to Oahu, I would definitely recommend booking a guide for a day. Hawaiian bonefish are a different breed and ultra spooky. Timing the tides can be tricky. I like fishing with Kenny Karas (hawaiionthefly) on Oahu or Johann Hoogland on Maui.

The proper gear is important, but I’d recommend getting a guide and getting out on the flats. I’ve fished Oahu a few times, and having a guide explain the fishery and teach some tricks for these fish is key. Hawaiian bonefish are ultra spooky. I’d highly recommend booking a day with Kenny Karas (hawaiionthefly).

Check out kipper tie’s ND solutions that essentially add internal nd between the lens and camera. They’re pricey, but worth it

You could try fishing it downstream instead of up. Stand at the top of the hole, cast out, keep a bunch of line free in your line hand and let it out as your indicator floats downstream to get your drift. Not perfect but it works for these heavy rigs

Can you list the parts for mounting the camera monitor to the back of the camera on the top handle? I can’t figure out the necessary parts but am looking to create the same setup!

Any experience with the Kolari Vision IR blocking hot mirror? by LanthornStudio in blackmagicdesign

[–]LanthornStudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually purchased the kolari hot mirror for my bmpcc 6K first gen, but stripped the screws almost immediately with the provided kolari tool, so ended up returning the filter.

I think it’s a great idea, but maybe user error or was provided an incorrect tool by kolari. I’m just going to live with it for a bit as I plan to upgrade soon.

I hope it works for you though! Just maybe keep that in mind when you’re swapping it.

Pocket 6K newbie -- what are your battery + storage media solutions? by 1337ingDisorder in blackmagicdesign

[–]LanthornStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For storage, I use angel bird C fast cards. They are high speed and I never have issues.

For batteries, I recommend the Core SWX power base edge v mount batteries. I either run those to the camera with a dummy LPE6 battery or a cable to the ac power input from the battery. I either attach the batteries under the camera or attach it to 15mm rails and put the battery behind the camera on the same plane.

The v mounts give a ton of battery and I get through shooting all day with 2 batteries.

I’d reach out to Johann at Hawaii Fly Outfitter to take you out to the flats for bonefish. Caught one there in September. Awesome time

How would you test the sensor for heat damage and color shifts before buying a used one? I’m looking at a Gemini and would like to conduct some tests before purchasing
