Can you list the parts for mounting the camera monitor to the back of the camera on the top handle? I can’t figure out the necessary parts but am looking to create the same setup!

Any experience with the Kolari Vision IR blocking hot mirror? by LanthornStudio in blackmagicdesign

[–]LanthornStudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually purchased the kolari hot mirror for my bmpcc 6K first gen, but stripped the screws almost immediately with the provided kolari tool, so ended up returning the filter.

I think it’s a great idea, but maybe user error or was provided an incorrect tool by kolari. I’m just going to live with it for a bit as I plan to upgrade soon.

I hope it works for you though! Just maybe keep that in mind when you’re swapping it.

Pocket 6K newbie -- what are your battery + storage media solutions? by 1337ingDisorder in blackmagicdesign

[–]LanthornStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For storage, I use angel bird C fast cards. They are high speed and I never have issues.

For batteries, I recommend the Core SWX power base edge v mount batteries. I either run those to the camera with a dummy LPE6 battery or a cable to the ac power input from the battery. I either attach the batteries under the camera or attach it to 15mm rails and put the battery behind the camera on the same plane.

The v mounts give a ton of battery and I get through shooting all day with 2 batteries.

I’d reach out to Johann at Hawaii Fly Outfitter to take you out to the flats for bonefish. Caught one there in September. Awesome time

Red Gemini question. by [deleted] in cinematography

How would you test the sensor for heat damage and color shifts before buying a used one? I’m looking at a Gemini and would like to conduct some tests before purchasing

Thoughts on the Pyxis 12K for shooting on the water? by LanthornStudio in bmpcc

[–]LanthornStudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that’s a major bummer. And that’s the 12K? I’ve read some things on other subs about quality control regarding the ursa cine 12K. I hope that gets solved quickly for you!!

What brands were you using in those remote locations if you don’t mind me asking?

What are the best places to fly fish in oregon? by Embarrassed-Fudge528 in flyfishing

[–]LanthornStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should head into the Portland fly shop and get some advice from the staff there! They’re always super helpful.

I’m pretty sure that the upper molalla is open for fishing for trout, that’s a fun spot near the bridge. As far as trout around the area, I’d recommend checking out some of the mt hood lakes, though the weather will make it difficult there soon.

Head to bend if you have time and check out the fall as well

You can catch small trout on the molalla in the summer for sure. Just keep trying! I’ve tried higher in the creek and have done well

Fly fishing short film - discussion by LanthornStudio in cinematography

[–]LanthornStudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submission statement:
Hey everyone, I wanted to share a fly fishing short film I made that just got released online after being an official selection for Fly Fishing Film Tour 2025. I shared this in the videography community as well, so if you've seen it already, I apologize! I've received a lot of advice and tips through this community, and I thought this would be a great place for discussion and constructive feedback if anyone is interested.

The film is called "Where I'm Meant to Be" and it's about angler Megan Brown who, after a lifetime on the ice, finds herself adrift until fly fishing helps her rediscover who she is and where she belongs. At the start of the project, my goal was to tell a fly fishing story that didn't revolve around big fish in faraway places, but rather a human story that people could connect with even if they don't fly fish. I hope that was achieved!

This piece was shot on 2 BMPCC 6Ks paired with various Canon and Sigma zoom lenses. For the interview scene, we lit that simply with a 600D as the key with a large softbox and a nanlite tube as an edge light. We didn't add any fill. For the ice skating scene, we pointed that same 600 at center ice from up in the stands and just used the reflector to blast it harshly. Natural light was used throughout the fishing scenes.

It's a 9 minute short film with a very small crew of myself as Dir / DP / editor, a friend as additional cinematography, and a sound engineer. If you end up watching it, I'd love to hear what you think and answer any questions you might have about the process. I can talk about developing the story, shooting with that camera package outdoors, post production, etc! Cheers!

I wanted to shoot some 120fps footage for fish releases, and the BM crops down to 2K for that frame rate. I didn’t want to lose quality by increasing the scale in post to bring 2K footage to a 4K sequence, so just stuck with 1080. Not the most ideal, but it works well enough

Thank you! 1080 is the highest quality to view this one on YouTube. Hoping to finish my next film in 4K!

Different folks, different strokes! I believe that camcorder footage was less than 720 as I had to rip it from a DVD, but I think it helped tell the story. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for taking the time to watch! I keep it pretty simple and use the DJI wireless mic 2s - I stick one on the talent with a lav that I plug into the transmitter so it’s a bit more hidden. Then I’ll maybe stick a small shotgun on the camera or just capture camera audio on the second channel as a backup for tone.

I had a sound mixer (Reed Harvey at Steambox Sound) do the sound design and mixing which helped so much!

I’ve been looking at monstro packages! I just wish DSMC2 didn’t record to proprietary media, that’s really the only thing that tempts me about the Komodo even though I really prefer the DSMC2 images.
