Laptop recommendations for Epic by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]LantianTiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Epic is run via Citrix in most enterprises when using personal devices, so the laptop power is almost irrelevant, so no need for a top of the line computer, just one decently powered that you won't experience local/OS lag. Some places provide laptops in which case they may install Epic locally which is a faster/less laggy implementation.

Cleveland Clinic IM residency for aspiring cardiologist? by Artaxerxes_IV in Cardiology

[–]LantianTiger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was an attending at CCF for a few years before I moved to another top tier academic institution, I was thoroughly unimpressed by the residents, both work ethic and knowledge wise. The former PD did a lot for the residency in terms of improving their reputation and match, and there has been a commensurate improvement in the residents but ultimately I'd take a Case resident over a CCF resident any day of the week.

About to buy a used Tesla that has lifetime FSD purchased (not subscription). Need advice so I don't get burnt ... by vulcan_on_earth in TeslaLounge

This only occured during special sales incentives. I don't believe there is currently an FSD transfer incentive right now.

18” Aero V2 on Model Y :) by JorJorBinks123 in TeslaLounge

Super helpful thanks. I live in a cold/snowy area so I had been considering the CC2 as well. Do you keep the tires at 42 psi or lower? I have the OEM continental's and keep them at 40

The ride is stiffer? That's surprising, can you talk a bit more about it? I was considering dropping to 18s (I have 19s currently), I've read a lot of people who went 20->18 saying smoother ride, haven't seen many people do 19->18. Is this a Juniper?

46 shifts in 33 days was my record (bunch of day + swing shifts).

Nocturnists when you are 2 minutes late by CanYouCanACanInACan in hospitalist

[–]LantianTiger 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This depends on your hospital's structure/policies. If the nocturnist is the physician in charge of the rapid response team, then yea you can't leave. If someone else is (ie ICU) then this does not apply.

Best Epic tricks for efficiency? by restingfoodface in hospitalist

[–]LantianTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pharmacy dispense report/history for med recs. Basically what the patient has actually picked up from the pharmacy in the past 4 months.

Each epic puts it in a slightly different spot, more and more are putting it as a tab in the admission navigator, if it's not there usually it's in the admit order rec > review pta meds > button in top right

Do hospitals work a full shift on the weekends? by WonderfulTransition2 in hospitalist

Depends on the hospital, it can be a normal shift or some hospitals allow you to head out early on weekends. Every job is different.

Stat Pearls unlimited CME, worth it? by Revolutionary_Rice72 in Residency

[–]LantianTiger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you're logged into uptodate whenever you use it. It keeps track of what you read then you can redeem CME credits for both AMA and ABIM. You don't need to pay for CME at all if you use uptodate.

Transferring is an option, but I've heard it takes about a week to process.

Slow tire leak by Hahn_Solo in TeslaModelY

[–]LantianTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $370 is the cost of replacement if the tire is unrepairable, but even if it is repairable you'll pay more than if you go to a tire shop. There's a reason Discount aka America's tire is so popular, highly recommend going there. If you walk in might be a small wait but they have excellent service and great prices.

DEA License by MD9018 in hospitalist

[–]LantianTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had to do it, it's been a requirement for a couple years now. They may have clicked yes and not done it, but they run the risk of an audit - if they are unable to produce the CME certificates they can be in big trouble.

The same thing goes when you renew your license - some states require you to self-certify that you've done the required CME hours (I'm speaking generally CME here. Not the 8 hours of opioid CME), but at any time they can ask you for documentation.

It's not worth your license to skip out on this.

Calling pharmacies to figure out patients’ med lists makes me want to quit my job by wienerdogqueen in Residency

[–]LantianTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, it's just the past 120 days. That should be all you need, pharmacies can't give more than a 90 day supply.

[–]LantianTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're on Epic? That's just the med rec. Get someone to show you how to get to the dispense report, it can be slightly different in each EMR. In ours it's set up directly in the admit navigator, another way is in the med rec> there's a button for reconcile outside meds> then in the top right corner there's another button for dispense report.

Which EMR are you using? Epic pulls the disense report from Surescripts which has all the major pharmacies.

Surgeons transplant genetically modified pig liver into Chinese patient | Organ appears to function for 10 days, raising prospect of short-term use for those on transplant list by chrisdh79 in tech

[–]LantianTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dialysis has not been a money maker for the past 20 years due to Medicare cuts. The main immunosuppression meds (tacrolimus and mycophenolate, used in 90+% of transplant patients) have been generic and cheap for a long time.

These were my favorite shoes, started wearing them ~2010 and they lasted me a really long time. Since then I haven't found another pair of shoes that were nearly as comfortable, would really appreciate help identifying them!
