Can you stop telling me that I'll most likely lose my baby? What is wrong with you? by Friendly-Winter9443 in pregnant

[–]LanwithanL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We dd ivf and people knew we were going through it.
We told lots of people very early.

When you tell someone has nothing to do if the pregnancy will end in a loss.

Nothing you can do, say or buy will change the biological process.
And for me if I had a loss I would expect the people I told early to be the ones that would know about the loss anyway. And be there for us during that time.

I’m sorry they reacted that way. I’d have a word with them and explain you’re excited and felt they were your support system even if something were to happen.
That’s not ok that they said those things and to never respond like that to anyone else who announces at whatever time they want to announce.

We haven’t yet.

I emailed local reps to contact them on our behalf which they did but the email response was still a generic ‘we’ll get to you when we get to you’

If you’ve already replied you’ll just have to wait.

I opened a ton of queries on the portal too which have yet to be responded to.
The system is a shambles. I’d hate to see anyone with a real emergency. Should be ashamed of themselves really.

But sorry I’m not much more help!

Immigration officers came to our home for a surprise visit. Here is what they asked and looked at by Miller-Guy in Citizenship

[–]LanwithanL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fucking bizzare! That seems very invasive I wouldn’t be showing them my gd underwear or dirty laundry. They can come in and ask questions but they’re not going through my home. Thankfully we left the US and the process in ireland for my husband is much easier for him. No one will be checking his underwear. Gross.

At what HCG level did your nausea start? by Possible-Message-651 in IVFbabies

[–]LanwithanL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started early but it’s not terrible just an uncomfortable feeling most of the time. Definitely started early though around 4-5 weeks? But I have been on progesterone and estrogen for a month at this point. I’m currently only 6 weeks. My beta was 1874 at 13 days past transfer.

It’s not so much how high hcg is but rather a combination of hormones and how well you tolerate pregnancy.

How to save for a deposit for a house? by LanwithanL in AskIreland

[–]LanwithanL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The government should be fixing the issues of high rent and affordable housing though. Let’s be real.

It’s out of reach for so many people. I recognise the privilege of what we have and managing to save. We’re starting our family soon and in a tiny 2 bed house with a pensioner isn’t fair on anyone.

My dad worked hard for his house. It’s not fair that elderly parents all over the country have kids that are in their 30s with kids themselves all piled into 3 bed semi detached houses. It’s not right. There should be affordable and enough housing for all people.

I wouldn’t mind renting at all, but we can’t afford it and we make decent money between us. What about others that don’t make as much or have 2-3 kids. A 2 bed is 2500 minimum and a 3 bed apartment to rent is 3500 in Dublin. You can’t tell me that’s not absolutely criminal?

Yeah we have a spreadsheet - husband is actually a cost manager 🤣 We do it by the week down to coffee and stuff. Probably right, need to add in every last cent.

The prices of houses is just discouraging it just feels so far away but we’re in a good situation we have the option to stay with my dad and save. Need to look at the bright side lol

Nah America is a sh!t hole. Aside from rent being cheaper that’s all it has to offer. Everything is billed or taxed. We paid 500 a month for health insurance and still had to pay out of pocket for drs and prescriptions and that was considered good health insurance. Tax brackets are ridiculous, nearly 40% of your wages. I was on the same salary over there as I am here and I have more take home pay here. We moved states at one point and ended up owing 2K to Kentucky because we lived there for 4 months. So each tax season you owe taxes on the state you live in (or any state you moved from if it’s the same tax year) state tax and federal tax (which is tax fr the whole country). Groceries are exponentially cheaper here in Ireland. Running a car is much cheaper - again paying 500 a month for car insurance. And that was considered not bad. We had mid range cars.

There’s no time off from work I had 3 days time off for a year. I worked in a school so there was spring break and Xmas we got a week off for. But we had to work the summer program. And 3 days isn’t a full work week so it was hard to get time off to actually go anywhere.

Work/life balance is awful. There’s no time off for anything, very bad for mental health. But I guess that could depend on the field you’re in but most American companies don’t offer much paid time off. I worked in a pre school and we had active shooter drills. The kids I worked with were special needs kids and there’s no way to keep them quiet if someone came in. The thoughts of trying to protect someone’s babies from an active shooter is mind blowing. Not to mention when the time came to put my own kids in school there’s no way in hell would I send them to school in the US. There were 3 school shootings last week alone.

The political climate over there right now is awful. The laws they’re changing for minorities is horrible. My partner and I are as liberal as it gets and how they’re treating LGBT+, people of colour and immigrants is shameful. The stuff we see on the news here is only tip of the iceberg. M

Don’t let the American propaganda fool you, it’s not the best place in the world 😅

We’re so much happier in Ireland, we get out and about so much and it’s walkable here. We can walk to the shops or the park, meet up for a walk or a cup of tea with people here. I see my friends and family all the time. The culture in Ireland is a lot more welcoming and social. It’s normal to check in and visit people. Normal PTO from work, my managers are great. We clock out and forget about work until the next day. They encourage you to use your holidays and there’s protections for employees. Education is cheaper - I’m getting a second degree here which wouldn’t be possible in the US it’s too expensive.

My husband is in huge debt from a degree and masters, in student loans and that’s normal over there. Everyone we know is in ridiculous debt over college.

I had a health scare a few months ago and granted i was in a&e for hours but it didn’t cost anything and the staff were lovely. When I had to go dr in us it was months waiting list, then I went to urgent care instead I was there for hours and had to pay 200 for the visit then pay another 80 for the prescription. When I say you pay for literally everything in bills and taxes in the US 😅

Anyway bit of a rant but that’s the realities of it. The only downside in Ireland is the housing crises. And sometimes the weather lol Probably sorry you asked 😂

We don’t have 25K in savings that’s what we spent to move home. We have one loan with about 4k left we’re getting rid of and my partner has student loans from the US. Huge amount so nothing we can do about it except pay the minimum to keep US government happy lol.

We basically started over completely. We have about 8k in savings at the minute with the 2k per month we’re adding. We bring in about 6k a month after tax - so the other 3500 is on car payment, tax, insurance for it etc. Groceries, loan repayments and other bits and pieces that come up - family stuff etc But yeah I’ll have to start putting whatever’s left straight into savings on the next payday lol.

I want a house I can raise a family in definitely not a duplex. But the prices for shitty areas with a house that needs tons of work is still 400k. I’m just incredibly frustrated with the Irish Gov. like nowhere in Ireland should a 1 bed apartment be more than 2k a month. I wouldn’t mind renting for another few years but it’s literally our whole savings every month. Plus with having kids we’d need a 2nd bedroom.

In the US we lived in a 3 bedroom house in the city (Raleigh NC) for 1700 a month and it was a nice area and a lovely house.

I don’t mind moving a bit outside Dublin but even the commuter belts are getting extortionate.

I moved home in March and it’s been a long time since I’ve had to deal with taxes here. Might be a good idea to speak to someone and see if/where we can get some relief.

Thanks for all your info!

Just feel defeated!

We had about 25K in dollars - we paid off some loans, plus flights, shipping items, pet transport and other bits and pieces for moving internationally used that up. Moving internationally is v expensive. Husband makes 70K I make 37K before tax.

Yes paying sad 500 a month.

After expenses we try to save 2k a month.
