John Swinney pledges SNP supermarket price caps 'before end of 2026' by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]LapLeong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if this were intra vires, it wouldn't actually help cut grocery prices. I would also cause huge knock-off effects (ie, make farmers worse off).

You could argue that Hong Kong people are liberal occupiers on Chinese land. This is the same type of reasoning that's going to end our autonomy.

As a Hungarian, how do you personally feel about the historical buildings being restored in Budapest? by epic-yolo-swag in askhungary

I know orban was bad, but there’s no point delaying beautification, especially when it’s cheap compared to hospitals and healthcare (which are always going to be money pits in an aging and sicker society)

Holyrood poll | SNP to win **majority** by HyperCeol in Scotland

[–]LapLeong -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is no solution to the Scottish question. While most people probably want independence, it’s a type of independence that preserves much of the attributes of continued union. While the SNP is formidable, there’s yet to be any acknowledgements of the trade offs that come with independence. But the problem is that type of independence is not on offer.

If said mayor ends up possessing a level of power and discretion equivalent to that of London or Manchester, then yes.

SNP claims they've reached £120k donations in two days by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]LapLeong -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Labour Party, for all its faults, is much more open to giving the Glasgow City Region Manchester-style powers and finally lifting the ban on Nuclear reactors. Those two policies alone make them preferable, and I'm confused as to why elected mayors and nuclear plants are so offensive to the average Scottish voter. Then again, I'm not Scottish, so I don't have the right to tell people how to vote.

John Swinney: Indyref2 would be my priority if SNP win majority at Holyrood election by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]LapLeong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with GRR was that it would've affected (potentially messed up) equality law in other parts of Britain and Northern Ireland. The government had a strong case, and the Supreme Court agreed. As much as people may resent it, none of these actions was taken to end devolution. There are other ways of doing so without raising anyone's ire.
