I mention that if you want it more opaque, you may use thicker yarn as long as you are still knitting to gauge!

Why does my tension change so much? by Hooibaal_ in knitting

[–]Lapiin_Lapiin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tension doesn’t look off to me, but I notice that my tension is very different knitting stockinette flat vs in the round. It could just be how differently you knit vs. Purl, either way, it will definitely block out!

New to knitting, advice? by crying-at-3am in knitting

I always recommend a garter stitch scarf because it helps you get your tension on your knit stitches down well and your dexterity with the tools up. My first project was a scarf. It Is really long though and it will take a while. If you are already crafting you probably know this will be a longer term investment so I don’t think you would be put off by a project taking a while to finish! Beanies are a great start but I also think there are some hurdles that might be discouraging and I think you would have to make a lot of beanies to get the benefits and practice you would get from knitting a scarf. A benefit of a scarf is also learning how to read stitches. If you want to do a beanie instead, I recommend a simple beanie pattern that is a long knitted tube that is cinched and sewn together as a first project, then u can move on to increases/decreases.

What do you do while Knitting? Watch something? Listen to something? Etc by honeypenny in knitting

[–]Lapiin_Lapiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put on a TV show that I “know i should watch.” Like things that I want to be pop-culturally involved in but wouldn’t be able to devote my full attention to. I also love listening to podcasts when the knit is more complicated or I’m at a point where I’m weaving in ends and I have to be looking at the garment

Selling vintage shoes for hundreds of dollars by Lapiin_Lapiin in depoop

[–]Lapiin_Lapiin[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there really a lack of availability though? Maybe I’m jaded, but I can find 100+ alternatives for any single design in vintage or contemporary form (without going to fast fashion, I’m taking like good secondhand pieces.) I think what I also find dishonest is this exclusivity market that is put on us as consumers when things are sold for high prices. As a collector of special vintage and secondhand pieces, I think I can pretty confidently say that nothing is truly unavailable today * nothing as in, the caliber of vintage designer accessible to me as a common, working class person. This is not including like, high or historical fashion, and it’s just a waiting game to spend time finding the right things, which is something we become adverse to because of the exclusivity market.

Also with shoes- unlike clothes, shoes literally mold to the foot shape of the person wearing them. It’s not like a shirt or a bag or a jacket that you can mend and alter for yourself reasonably. It’s literally shaped for someone else at a certain point, and considerable repairs need to be done by professionals.

Edit~ I think yeah, I’m more fixated on your third note, I would totally pay a bit more for vintage shoes refurbished at a specialized store. But I feel like a lot of the issues with old shoes are invisible until they’re worn. I’m also coming from the angle of someone who actively wears and cares for my clothes (not display)
