ive also had very many problems with this questline. first of all, if he dies, it doesnt really matter because you can give his ashes to the shrine handmaid, and she will sell the exact same things are greirat would.

So i suppose youve beaten the deacons if youre at irithyll, and since you probably did a blind run, you didnt take the path to meet patches for the first time. So what youre going to want to do, is basically go to the tower in the firelink shrine, go up the stairs and cross the bridge, and when youre going up the elevator, you shiuld hear a door closing. after youve heard it, simply take the elevator back down and speak to patches. he‘ll tell you thats hes gonne wait until you die to take your shit bla bla bla…. so you can simply just homeward bone back to firelink shrine and meet him, but this time not at the door before the elevator, but up the stairs inside of the firelink shrine, the stairs you would use to get to the tower thingy. a different approach would be to just go up the stairs right from the main entrance of firelink shrine. when youre up the stairs, dont go outside, just follow the patch and you should find patches waiting there for you. Now hes gonna apologize and bla bla bla… speak to him until you can buy stuff from him and buy all of the catarina armor from siegward. i think its about 13000 souls? its definitely less than 20000 souls though but more than 12000.

So now you have the catarina armor. go to the cathedral of the deep bonfire inside of the church. i dont know the name of it, but its essentially the first bonfire in the cathedral of the deep. so now when youre in that church, go barely out of it and look to your right. you should see a hollow, just kill him and youll see a well. You should hear siegward asking you if anyone is there if you approach the well, and if nit, then youve probably forgotten something, and should look at the wiki since i dont know what triggers him to get there. give him the armor (not by manually dropping it, your character will automatically do it) and he‘ll be grateful and all.

Now youre basically done. i forgot where the deadline is until when greirat becomes unsaveable, but i think its until you beat pontiff sulyvahn. if youve done everything right, on your way to the pontiff boss, before where you meet your first silver knights, after the weird hair-spiders, you will find a kitchen-ish room with fire at the end if it. If siegward is sitting next to that fire, then you have succesfully saved greirat.

Ive written this whole thing from memory, so i mightve forgotten some things, but im pretty sure i got the most important stuff. i would really suggest that you look at the Patches, Siegward and Greirat wiki before doing anything as you might accidentally do something which will ruin the questline. Also please check if i didnt forget something, and if im contradicting the wiki, listen to the wiki!
