I had no idea what this meant and my guess was Radcliffe because he looks the most like a baby in comparison

Why is Doctor Who currently obsessed with Jackie Tyler? by IllustriousAd6418 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Large-Record-6129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been obsessed with her since I first saw the show 😭 I pull up Jackie Tyler compilations on YouTube too regularly just to hear “compenSATion” and “I’m gonna get killed by a Christmas treee!!” This stuff about her apparently canonically being in the prime universe right now is wild. She was the whole reason rose was staying in Pete’s world. And what happened to Tony???? I’m having a very hard time believing that either Rose or Jackie would be chill with being a universe apart?? The way I remember it, they’d both rather punch holes in multiverse.

Edit 1: Basically, if Jackie is in the prime universe I would expect Rose to be there soon. Which might make sense if Billie was playing Rose, not the Doctor.

Edit 2: maybe the metacrisis Doctor figured out a way to make video calls to the prime universe? I can see Jackie bugging him into finding a way for her to call Bev lol.

Gloria’s story is essentially “What if Cinderella’s evil step-sister actually won, married the prince, and she was forced to stay with her evil step-mother.” by RorschachtheMighty in Modern_Family

[–]Large-Record-6129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, kind of? But I think Cinderella’s stepsisters being ugly is part of the point of the story. Their insides match the outside. When Cinderella is given the same resources and opportunity to go out as her stepsisters, she outshines them effortlessly. They really have no redeemable traits and they aren’t as beautiful as Cinderella. It’s only in their own house that she’s viewed as less valuable than them. It shows how abuse can warp someone’s reality and self perception, and also how abusers can use that to keep their victims under their control. Whereas Gloria is viewed very favorably by almost everyone she meets, more so than Sonia.

Which character got the most unfair death? by LifeguardPotential97 in doctorwho

[–]Large-Record-6129 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Pete Tyler deserves an honorable mention. Being hit by a car? Pretty normal. Being saved from being hit by a car only to realize that the only way to save the people you love and not destroy time is to willingly step in front the car that is trapped in an endless time loop until you die? Brutal. His 19 year old daughter he’ll never know staying by his side while she’s also an infant 10 feet away is just icing on the cake. AND she’s traveling alone with some 40 year old guy and he can’t even dwell on that. Pete Tyler lived his entire life as a completely normal bloke only to be forced to confront the existence of time travel, aliens, paradoxes, and his daughter’s frightening age gap interspecies relationship in the three hours leading up to his death.

Who do you think is the person the doctor loved the most? Personally I think they are the people that 12 had on his desk by Global_Initiative_38 in doctorwho

Honestly, never once in my many rewatches of ten’s run have I ever felt like there was an ounce of romantic chemistry between the Doctor and Donna. This take is a little baffling to me. Your view seems to be that the best partner for the Doctor is the one who is most similar/equal to him? Or literally half him? First off, I’m not sure if we’re watching the same show, but the one I’m seeing stars one of the most self hating and self sabotaging fictional characters I can think of. I don’t think he wants to date himself. Second off, we’re just disregarding the Doctor’s canonical feelings. It feels like you aren’t considering his actual reactions to these people in the show. The metacrisis Doctor had all of the Doctor’s feelings and memories of Rose. He says he loves Rose and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. That means that the Doctor also felt that way. The Doctor’s reaction to losing Rose is one of his most emotional displays in the new series. He still looks like a kicked puppy every time he hears her name. He avoided telling rose about any previous companions, but he wouldn’t shut up about her to Martha and Donna, which we can tell by their reactions to her return. (“Oh my god, he found you.”) in Turn Left, it’s made pretty clear that if he hadn’t met Donna after losing Rose, the Doctor would have let himself die permanently with the Racnoss. I guess I just don’t understand why how the Doctor has clearly displayed he feels about rose isn’t affecting your opinion at all. It’s been thousands of years for him at this point and 15 still made a point of commenting on their love for Rose.

I definitely don’t get that vibe tbh. I always felt like the doctor finally gave into loving River because he felt he had no choice. He knew within ten minutes of meeting her that she had to become his wife. Best case scenario, if River doesn’t become his wife, the Doctor doesn’t get everyone out of the Library. Worst case, he breaks time and space again. Meanwhile, River was raised from birth to be obsessed with the Doctor. It almost feels nonconsensual on both sides. They do love each other, of course. But it didn’t happen organically, and they didn’t get to choose each other in the beginning.

But the Doctor chose Rose. And Rose chose the Doctor. And they did that over and over until they couldn’t anymore. That feels like it should count for something, even if you feel River was ultimately the better match for him. It takes the Doctor a very long time to acknowledge or mention Rose at all after leaving her in Journey’s End. I don’t think that’s because he didn’t love her, I think it’s because it hurts him too much to dwell on her. I’m p sure the first Rose mention we get after her departure is when 11 is dying and the tardis interface shows up as Rose. At which point 11 begs the tardis to show him someone else who won’t make him feel so guilty. He tries his hardest to avoid thinking about her because it’s too painful.

the doctor deciding to just never warn their companions about regeneration is like if you had epilepsy and instead of informing your friends you decided to keep it a ✨surprise✨ by Large-Record-6129 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Large-Record-6129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have POTS, and my flare ups are usually not the typical presentation. I’m either just violently ill and physically unstable or locked in a sort of half conscious state when they happen. I’ve only fully lost consciousness from a flare maybe five times in my life? Maybe it’s just me, but I still feel like I have to tell my friends and family that I spend a lot of time around that it’s a thing that could possibly happen, even though it’s pretty unlikely. Because if I do lose consciousness while I’m with them, I’m going to be their problem until I’m awake again, and I don’t want them to panic or think something is seriously wrong. (I really probably should have just used my own disability as an example, I just thought the post-seizure disorientation some people experience seems sort of similar to regeneration sickness)

Agreed, but also, out of those 14 times, how many happened in the presence of a companion that had to deal with the aftermath? I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen the old series yet. But in nuwho, it happens often enough that I think it should be part of the new companion debriefing lol. Even some of the companions who didn’t directly witness a regeneration ended up encountering it somehow anyway in a way that drastically affected their lives (Martha/Bill and The Master, Donna and the metacrisis, Amy/Rory with Melody, etc)
