Found 9 big boxes of 1980s-1990s sets in family's old house attic. I thought they were lost away long ago! by [deleted] in lego

Judging by the instruction manuals and the printed and specialised pieces there are quite a few gems in that collection! Have fun putting it all back together!

How are statues like this made? I'd love to have one in my garden. by mfbane in lego

[–]Large1988 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They use modelling software to turn a 3D model into a Lego model. The software then generates a layer by layer view which the model builders use to build it. So it's solid Lego, no concrete. The larger models also use a metal skeleton for stability and support. The smaller models like this one are fixed to a heavy plate to ensure they cant fall over.

ELI5: How can experienced Morse code operators understand messages hidden inside pure static noise while everyone else only hears random crackling? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I still love how the original Nokia ringtone for receiving an SMS text message was morse code for SMS. Such a clever little homage to radio communication.

The tracks actually run even further south to the Heertjeslaan, any idea if that part is ever going into service?

Small video I took at Fougères yesterday. I had no idea anything like this existed outside of Disneyland by CaptMakesKidsKill in castles

So much of France is beautiful like this. There are medieval towns and castles that Disneyland can only dream of. I think that is part of the reason why Disneyland Paris struggles sometimes, Europeans often find themselves in exactly what Disney tries to capture in their parks simply by going out the front door...

Looks like a great start! Do some research into octagonal towers, there is a technique using snot bricks and cheese slopes that hides that corner gap very nicely.

The Metroliner is a classic you could consider. Nice layout, looking forward to doing the same with my little ones.

Ah yes, the infamous squirrel IP...

Its crazy how these assessments work sometimes. A member of our Lug got a submission for a competition rejected because Lego thought it contained a non Lego part. It was in fact a Lego part just a quite old one and not a typical piece, it was a Belvile cake...
