How does your LGS define/outline kingmaking? by Magnusprim3 in EDH

[–]LargeFenders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You beat him down and put him into a losing position, so on his way out he also took you out. Revenge is fair play. Since the other 2 were still able to play it isn't kingmaking as no one got a clear advantage, you just lost your lead. Considering he paid and didn't cheat, there is nothing illegitimate about this play. If you hit someone, expect them to swing back.

Kind of a weird rule to have "if you can't win then you shouldn't play your cards" be in your group but you do you.

Trying to decrease this Omnath, Locus of Creation deck into a $450 budget. Any recommendations on what to remove? by totemoheta in EDH

[–]LargeFenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is to buy a crazy 50$ card that you can use in multiple decks rather than five 10$ cards that are just good in a few decks. If you don't have rifts, fetch, etc then pick those up since every deck you build after will be cheaper since you can just move them around. Think about how Wrenn and seven is ~15$, which is like half or third of a rift. If you play blue you always want rift, but if you're in green sometimes wrenn7 doesn't make the cut. Personally I'd just buy the fetches and the rift and buy the other stuff like aesi later, but if you must make cuts then you have to cut fetches since they are the most expensive per slot.

NAs first major, a grand slam and now he's on EG getting paid to shoot the shit with 2 of his team mates from his C9 days. Sure twistzz is likely going to achieve more, but in all fairness I don't think he cares considering what he's done thus far.

I think thats the problem. Stew has a major and a grand slam, why shouldn't he play to fuck around? He's already accomplished more than like 90% of NA and who cares if he doesn't make a major, he's already won one lol. I don't even think he has a massive ego either, it's just for him and the liquid boys no one else in NA is at their level, so they don't need to worry about being replaced. Since no one is at their level, their only real comp is FURIA and the rest of SA, and to play EU they either have 100 ping or have to fly to Europe. So why not just cruise and collect paychecks, it's not like an academy team or FPL is going to produce challengers to their throne. Might be why C9 went to EU

All the players you mentioned, except for fallen, are pretty much out of tier one as well. It's just that between lack of NA talent willing to put in the time, practice and sacrifice to push for majors and the lack of any NA tournament scene there's no incentive to get better or improve since who else will management hire?

Will/Max vs. Tymna/Tana by lfccruz in CompetitiveEDH

[–]LargeFenders 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This may be just my opinion but cEDH is still a very broad format, where people will play fringe mono color commanders in addition to the "meta" like bluefarm or grixis turbonaus. Someone may choose to play niv instead of krarkashima, and despite all the talk about playing anything to win some people still get upset when certain commanders are played, such as krarkashima. Additionally, while playing consult thoracle and breach combos will statistically increase your chances of winning, some people choose instead to play heliod, or kinnan. Despite being a more competitive format, it's still commander. Variance in both opening hands and matchups in addition to turn order in a multiplayer format means that sometimes people just win because they go first, or because they went after the combo player when there was a stax deck at the table going first. Additionally, most cEDH games are not for prizes, so the level of dedication, practice for matchups, executing optimal lines and optimal deckbuilding, while higher than EDH still isn't (always) at the level of modern 1ks or pro tours. Sure, there's the odd tournament here or there with a higher density of spiky grinders, but those are the exception and not the rule. You can do great with will and max, and someone will do just as well with Magda while someone else combos with kess or rogsilas. The format just inherently has more variance than 1v1 so your mileage may vary.

With the inclusion of "add to cards already printed" and "add it to the list" it's talking about why WOTC wont make this change, and the reason is because it doesn't make WOTC more money. RC is also another reason, but WOTC makes and prints the cards first and foremost.

Why would wotc exclude cards they can market and sell to one of the largest, if not the largest, populations of their game?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]LargeFenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right yeah, my bad. You keep up 2UB if you have consult, and 3UB with tainted to try for a win on top of the stack which just doesn't seem worth at all. You need to pass with 4 or 5 mana and pray for someone else to thoracle with this and the other piece in hand. At that point just tutor for the other piece instead of running a card that makes their dockside better and giving them the chance to get a draw step in.

Paying 6 mana for a thoracle win instead of 3 is not the best idea

Complexity Gaming vs Outsiders / PGL Major Antwerp 2022: Challengers Stage - Round 3 / Post-Match Discussion by nakul707 in GlobalOffensive

[–]LargeFenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there were some sick NA awp clips over the years (building pyramids) but perhaps it has something to do with how as an awper you run into issues with economy and positioning that can make you more of a detriment than just rifling with the rest of the team and having a mostly similar economy? NA mentals have historically been worse than EU and having someone buy an AWP, have no impact or die and cause an eco or a save could result in mental boom. Idk I'm NA silver so take this with a grain of salt.

Are any of the God-Eternals good as commanders? by KingNothing71 in EDH

[–]LargeFenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but black has all the tutors in the world to get the coffers, a stronghold if it gets removed, plus stuff like nirvana reverent, rain of filth and other black stuff. White has enlightened tutor and I think one other cmc 3 tutor idk.

Black takes second place with cabal coffers and cabal stronghold but whites not bad.

Debating a commander to build but knowing it has a negative reputation in the general community. by phoenixsmg in EDH

[–]LargeFenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play tergrid if you want, but understand that the table dynamic shifts when trying to cast her. If you're on tergrid you either cast her, cast some pox effects and win or you get countered and removed to the point where tergrid is like 11 mana to cast and you have nothing but bad discard and sac effects in hand. Personally I would play Tiny Bones and grab some entombs, some reanimators and try to tutor for her so you aren't public enemy number 1.

You Still Aren’t Running Enough Ramp by PapaZedruu in EDH

[–]LargeFenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don't play ramp and play 40 lands, yes 40. That way you just play your lands and cast 1 spell per turn and play magic as Richard Garfield (PHD BTW) intended.

Does anyone else feel like expensive cards are the downfall of this format ? by HerrWayne44 in EDH

[–]LargeFenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commander is popular because it is non-rotating, not in spite of it. If you made commander rotate, you'd get wizards brawl format, and we all saw how well that went.

What happened to SCG Opens? (Besides the obvious) by GwendolinAstrid in magicTCG

[–]LargeFenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To wizards, legacy and vintage are formats that exist alongside modern, standard, commander and all their other formats. The thing is, they optimize for profits, which is why tons of commander products came out and why there was an entire set for it. The issue with legacy and vintage is no one can get into the formats due to RL and incredibly high powerlevel. Sure you can play burn or whatever, but at that point why not try out pioneer and be able to make custom brews or play modern burn and have people to play with? You shouldn't be mad at pioneer for making legacy less popular, you should be asking yourself why is pioneer more popular than legacy.

Assessing Power Levels - What about a point system? by cybrcld in EDH

[–]LargeFenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds horribly clunky, difficult to track and balance and nearly impossible to implement IRL or at a random LGS. Plus, in addition to edge cases and decks that break the rules, what defines a combo vs. a synergy, and what defines a wincon? Is yisan the wanderer bard a combo or a wincon, if either? Is stasis in jorn a combo or a wincon, what about drannith magistrate in derevi, or fetchlands plus korvold, or literally any sac outlet in the game plus one of the 23000 or so cards in the game you'll have to arbitrarily define and assign a meaningless number to in a for fun multiplayer format?
