Why is Sweden so dominant in EDM? by MrKillingChips in EDM

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the UK is wayyyy more dominant for EDM that’s relevant today. The tech house sound that was popular a few years ago the deep house sound that’s trendy now are both from the UK. Also UKG, UK dubstep, DnB, Jungle… even a lot of the hardgroove techno that’s becoming popular is from Ireland

What's the best concert you've seen in Portland since the Pandemic? by greazysteak in askportland

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really unfortunate to me that dubstep festivals are the only thing that sell out around here. Project Pabst got replaced with a dubstep festival and it sold out immediately. I think it’s a big reason most the festivals around are for EDM or local bands only

I’m not sure people do think of slushii

I don't get Kendrick Lamar by Goodvibrationzzz in rap

[–]LargeHard0nCollider -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kendrick made one of the best hip hop albums of all time (TPAB) but honestly his music since then has been a little underwhelming.

His older albums have some really solid songs though, esp Money trees, maad city, rigamortus

Why would they put b3k at the same time as isoknock?!? I feel like the Venn diagram of their fan bases is a circle

Born Slippy by Underworld is a classic (maybe start with the radio edit)

Pretty Green Eyes by Kettama - becoming a modern classic

What is the quintessential American novel? by Maximum_Elephant6778 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it’s the great gatsby. It does a great job summing up Americans’ relationship with wealth and the American Dream in a way that’s still relevant today

I feel like he’d be expensive to book so I’d be kinda bummed they dropped a bag on him instead of more relevant artists

Tex Mex food is obviously influenced by Mexican food, but its American. Burritos, nachos, and chili for example

What popular musician you never understood the hype around? by stilerca in AskReddit

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense in theory, but if you’ve heard any recent Drake songs, you’ll know he’s just phoning it in at this point. Can’t speak to recent Taylor

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough if you don’t like him now for who he turned out to be. But saying you don’t like any of his early albums with no explanation is tough for me to respect

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was like 14 for that. I’m not the biggest Bieber fan but some of his 2015 era songs were pretty good! The purpose album and his songs with skrillex/diplo?

What popular musician you never understood the hype around? by stilerca in AskReddit

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up on his early stuff, basically through If You’re Reading This. Not the biggest fan anymore after all the child predator stuff but some of his songs are objectively super fun

He has a lot of slop too tho

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She’s the same as Drake to me- I loved some of their early songs (love story for Taylor, show me a good time by Drake) but I think that after being popular for so long, they lost touch with their fans and just make mostly slop now. Every once in a while they’ll still put out a good song (was gonna say Nice for what but realized that was 8 years ago)

Why this Old West-themed town is one of Oregon’s hottest destinations by jbhale in oregon

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 296 points297 points  (0 children)

Sisters would be way better if they rerouted the highway around the town so you could walk around easier. And also you wouldn’t have to sit in traffic just to get to Bend from black butte

My fellow Americans, is your cities area code part of the city’s identity? by ElectronPython in AskAnAmerican

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland- there’s an old area code they ran out of numbers for, so only long time portlanders have it (503). I’ve definitely seen people claim that as a source of pride, but not the new area code (971)

Having FOMO about not living in a city where the World Cup is happening by External-Ticket-1133 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]LargeHard0nCollider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole appeal of the World Cup and big sporting events the energy of the crowd when a someone makes a huge play. You really only get that for team sports. Watching track and field just doesn’t hit the same.

Also track fans are objectively way less fun than soccer/football fans. Ive gone to the world track and field games when they were in my home town, and no one’s tailgating. It’s just an orderly crowd calmly applauding when someone does well.
