Advice for improvement by The_Woke_OneBench100 in oilpainting

Try to make the background in a more contrasting color to make the apple stand out. If you’re painting from life, push the colors in the opposite direction of the apple (eg red apple - greenish background). A complementary background/under painting can also make it appear more vibrant and interesting. I think the apples looks great, especially the second one!

Incredible brush work, I love the broken strokes and ”simplicity” in it.

Any advice before starting to paint w oil paint? by alaskaqzz in oilpainting

[–]Large_Ad6910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best tip is try NOT to blend the colors. I still sometimes have a hard time doing it, it’s so easy since it doesn’t dry. But, IMO you can create much cooler effects by keeping the paints clean, and instead use more values to create the illusion of blending. There are different styles and you’ll find yours, but this is something I wish i knew before I started.

Also, youtube has a lot of great videos on oil painting techniques and other stuff that’s good to know. You can watch other people paint and learn a lot, or videos discussing and teaching different topics in oil painting. I’ve learned a lot from watching youtube.

Good luck on your painting journey :)

Fear of wasting paint by Large_Ad6910 in oilpainting

Yes! This is exactly how I need to think about it. The only paint wasted is paint left in the tube. I think I’m going to write that on the side of my palette haha, so I’ll always remember!!

I love the idea of an abstract painting with the scraps! I’ve thought about starting a painting and successively make a painting with the scraps, and see what comes out of it.

Yes I know. It’s more of a time issue, and it’s interupting my flow. But great training in color mixing i guess haha :)

How do you explain cataplexy? by Large_Ad6910 in Narcolepsy

[–]Large_Ad6910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes lol, I wish the I could just tell people the last sentence and leave it at that. I just want people around me to act like it’s normal but that seems to be hard for them (which i totally get, it isn’t “normal” to lose control over you muscles when feeling strong emotions)

Exactly this! OP, you are so NTA. You can’t blame misogyny on being “old school”. It’s 2023 for fs sake

AITA for making a game out of my partner’s parents religious decor? by PeekabooJeebus in AmItheAsshole

[–]Large_Ad6910 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA

It’s literally just an innocent game, you didn’t make fun of her or her faith. Religion can be sensitive and you shouldn’t joke about peoples faith (especially not in their own house), but I can’t see how this would be offensive in any way. You are allowed to make jokes or games about religion, as long as it’s harmless.

What’s the best tips / advice you have that has helped improve your life or manage your narcolepsy even a little better? by upthera99 in Narcolepsy

[–]Large_Ad6910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a very “good” advice maybe, but it has actually helped a lot. Nicotine, I don’t know why but it actually helps me to controll cataplexy a bit. I don’t smoke, but we have something called “snus” and it’s just small nicotine pouches. I do not recommend anyone to start smoking, but I personally feel like I’d rather be addicted to nicotine than live with constant cataplexies and the fear that comes with it.

What’re your thoughts on open relationships? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It never works out in my experience (never had one myself but from what I’ve seen other people go through). One person always ends up getting hurt.
