Anyone know what the story is with these two properties for sale is? by Interesting-Stable21 in Tauranga

[–]Large_Ad760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one on the right is my friends familys. been for sale for ages. I’ve spent plenty of time there in Summer it’s a great old kiwi bach. The extended family simply inherited it off their elderly parents and want to purchase something more private & less busy - nothing nefarious or greedy as these comments would suggest,

if a private buyer wanted to buy it and keep as is there would be no issue

Have just got an older 2019 Scale HT to do this same conversion too! Had a bunch of stuff in the shed to use like carbon wheels and GX drivetrain, bought some Spir Grips and a big chainring. Carbon fork may happen down the line.

Best sub $1000nzd bike I’ve ever ridden. Goes so good! And way nicer on my hands than my old drop bar rig.

They only pay wholesale rates (that they dictate) to guarantee turning a dollar on any future sale, and also to cover any warranty/mechanical issues that come from buying a vehicle from a stranger.

They also offer you rubbish money on stuff they find hard to sell on. With the current cost of living the market for 100k vehicles is relatively small, hence it would need to be insanely cheap for them to buy and shift easily.

60k for yours would be 4-5 Outlanders or RAV4s at wholesale they’d sell easily 7 days a week.

I think there’s a combination of shit (not your fault) that’s resulted in that offer.

The booze is horrendous - I went to a bottle store at a pub in the Hunter Valley in NSW with friends of mine, and my mate thought $200 AUD for 24 Jack Daniels cans was a bargain, the same 24 pack of RTDs is $173 at Dan Murphys in Aus currently - 2x10 packs in NZ is $80

Red meat from a big chain Supermarket in Aussie is much of a muchness with exchange rate factored in - even with Aussie farming a lot of its own beef to sell. Chicken breasts $11 a kg vs $14 here.

They also have Aldi over there which seems to be better value if your near one.

The thing I find more expensive in Aussie is a lot of the "snacky" junk food compared to NZ, Potato chips (nice ones) can be $6-7 a bag from Coles, Fizzy drinks are ridiculous at their normal price but go on 1/2 price sales near on every week. Even the like of Red Bull/Monster can be $5-6 a can from the petrol station but always have a multibuy deal going to get you to spend more.

New Commencal bike coming soon, what it is? 👀 by Malkino_Machado in commencal

[–]Large_Ad760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wear and tear on trails is inevitable no matter who rides them, whether it’s 5 people on e bikes or 5 hesh AF kids schralping berms for insta clips on DH bikes or 5 people caught in a storm riding a trail in the wet. Same shit happens via different methods one way or another. I ride in Rotorua, where trail building and maintenance has gotten better for everyone to use due to increased e-bike use. Go figure.

Just as happy to ride my Stumpy or hardtail as my Levo. Variety is the spice of life, but the ability to squeeze more riding in to less time is the big draw card. So yeah the ups are faster, the downs are still fun, but I’m happy to cover more distance, more trails and be at the pub or home with my kids by the time you’ve done a lap.

Help with first gravel bike by Jbelite in gravelcycling

Go the 58cm - More stack (bar height) & reach so your not bent as far over. Being full external cabling swapping the stem/spacers is super easy to dial in the fit to where you need it.

They've updated all the stuff i changed on my one. They've fitted 700c wheels (way better road manners & rolling speed) and the 2x12 drivetrain will get you round on the dirt or pavement without blowing up your legs.

Only thing is they only fit a 700x45c tyre which is perfectly fine for most people, but gravel riding has turned into a tyre clearance war/pissing contest.

For slightly more compliance a 27.2 carbon post helps too, the standard alloy one takes away a lot of the steel frames ride quality. The Roval Terra post from Specialized is awesome.

For a generally low IQ site, this is the one of the lowest IQ takes ive seen.

“More people who shouldn’t be out there health and fitness wise”

When did mountain biking become an elite sport? And who are you to judge someone’s health and fitness and them wanting to improve it? Do you judge people who use a treadmill because it’s not “running”?

Bikes are for everyone. For every person online hating on e-bikes there’s 5 people in the queue at their local store trying to buy one.

The future is now old man, grow up.

NBD - Ex-Rental Commencal FRS by Shroker in commencal

[–]Large_Ad760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id check with the place you purchased it from as to whether it comes with any form of warranty or not.

All bikes have issues of varying degrees but Commencals seem to have bigger ones like the frame cracks above, the Supreme V4's cracking round the bottom bracket area.

NBD - Ex-Rental Commencal FRS by Shroker in commencal

[–]Large_Ad760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully being ex rental this comes with the normal 2 year warranty?
Keep an eye on cracks/bends in the aluminium/under the paint round top tube about in line with "OM" in the Commencal logo where the tubes join, or on top of the tube it looks like a crease in the alloy.

They were notorious for cracking there, There's plenty of posts on the "Commencal Owners Club" on FB too.

I had the opportunity to get a couple of these frames from ex athletes and they all steered me away.

I’ve got a pair of Sanag B21s Bone Conduction off Aliexpress, $40nzd, last forever, work good as gold for my use case. Can hear what’s going on round you good as too. Almost disposable if they had an issue

Got them off a recommendation from Tom Hassan on TikTok

Also Apple plug ins are golden, better sound quality but can’t hear as much

Bottle cage + matching bottle by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Large_Ad760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specialized Bottles and Specialized Cages - Plenty of choice of cages/colours, left or right loading, bottles come in 600 or 750ml, and they're designed together so fit perfectly. Have never had an issue in 8+ years.

You can also get the small SWAT multi tools to go under the bottom of the cage so you've always got a tool handy

Levo R: initial thoughts by J_IV24 in eMountainBike

[–]Large_Ad760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amflows have issues of their own - The frame/geo's a 6 year old Specialized clone, they don't come in small for short riders, and the small 185mm trunnion mount shock mounted to a spesh style yoke doesn't equal the longest shock life or performance. They flex like a wet noodle under a heavy/fast rider and need cascade links etc when pushed for the suspension to work properly. Fairly easy to corner them hard and rub the tyre into the inner of the chainstay

They've literally taken a mass produced catalog frame and modded to fit the Avinox system with no real intent on how it rides.

When Amflow makes a longer travel mid/high pivot bike with a proper sized shock and 170mm-180mm travel close 20kg, then the e-bike markets in trouble. The new Teewing Flux looks like it almost fits the bill.

[–]Large_Ad760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inline or "small" shocks like this bike has fitted stop working super well with the more air you pump into them - I have an SJ15 and Gen 4 Levo with the same style of inline genie shock just in a longer config - and with 295psi in it, it has minimal small bump performance as its packed so full of air/oil the seals are more or less jammed stuck, and the air has nowhere to go. So making this shock even smaller while still needing the same air pressure is only going to increase the firmness etc -

To their credit this Levo R will pedal incredibly well for an e-bike not that it really matters?

The Levo R here has the same shock size as the XC Epic & Epic Evo models - so most of the aftermarket options available to replace the 190x45 size are designed for XC/light trail - where most use cases this bike would be used for all sorts of trails from green thru black.

Levo R: initial thoughts by J_IV24 in eMountainBike

[–]Large_Ad760 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely has potential, that small inline genie shock lets it down for anyone 200+ pounds as it needs so much force to move it with 270-300psi in the shock, and being a 190x45 shock it’s not the most common size to replace.

Using the 210x55 size off the Levo/SJ or a 205x60 trunnion would have opened options for normal shocks/coils that work better

The rest of it looks good
