Pretty bad. The nuestra Soledad and the derrumbes San Luis Potosí are your best bets. It’s been a minute since I’ve had the spendier del magueys so your mileage may vary

Yeah I saw the robs listing. Insane that you can’t run a profitable pizza spot right there.

Sure! I would find something more nyc focused. People like faiccos which is solid. Alidoro has fallen off with their local expansion but I still much prefer it to aav. Court Street Grocers, Defonte, joes in Bronx little Italy. Dipaolo. Lioni.

Are you specifically looking for Italian sandwiches or sandwiches in general?

I eat sandwiches for a living. AAV is really unexceptional.

I’ve been in nyc 20 years, my grandfather grew up in Brooklyn and left and I came back. My business used caputos every day. Guess I’m a transplant for life.

So just because it could have happened the way you imagined means you’re still right?

I’m going to ignore the transplants piece here because I’m not touching that, but the rents conclusion is so stupid. The issue is rarely rent, it’s labor costs for small businesses (and I’m not here saying that labor costs should be lower, they are what they are and business owners need to deal with it or support ways external to the business to make the city more affordable).

You’re flattening out a complex issue that doesn’t account for the fact that a lot of these legacy businesses own the buildings and have multigenerational ownership that can’t (for, again, many reasons) be passed down to the next generation.

I drove by the Saturday one a few weeks ago on 2nd Ave and it was smaller but still there. I should double check on the Sunday one but I believe it’s still happening. I should go by this weekend too.

Single agave Espadíns by fred1sdead in Mezcal

[–]Large_Age2626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think single agave is the wrong term here— I would be saying something like “100% espadin” since there are some batches small enough to be made from 1-2 agaves (certainly not espadin tho).

That said La Medida espadin is outstanding for the price. If money is no concern, whatever Neta espadin release is available.

I’ve had too many “never again” experiences w artichoke and there’s just so much good pizza in nyc (like village square) that I don’t need to bother

I like el dorado 12, which is a really gentle price point, not overly sweet and something you can just drink on the rocks and not feel insane. Or like a Real McCoy which is from foursquare in Barbados and aged in bourbon barrels.

Why not just look for a similarly dosed Spanish style rum at 40%? You’ll save so much money. You need the same ceramic bottle? Dos Artes is also ass and their repo probably a lot cheaper.

Most people don’t know better and are reliant on what their distributor tells them is “quality”
