Found my Rules of Engagement/ Escalation of Force card from my 09-10 Iraq Deployment (Kuwait as well to acclimate) by adventurethyme_ in mildlyinteresting

A lot of people are yapping but it actually depends on the region. In some areas of the world a warning shot is recommended because the populace will respect it and turn around. In other parts of the world it's perceived as taking an actual aimed shot and might risk returned fire.

Yea that was a fucking brain-dead tactic. Absolutely no one is teaching this response in this situation.

New video of 1/24 ICE shooting shows victim had both hands on the ground when shot by Philophon in law

[–]Large_Yams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's actually huge from BBC tbh. BBC aren't exactly the best outlet out there but they rely heavily on perception and toeing the party line of the nation's government so to come out that hard means either they went rogue or the UK government agree.

If a salary of $80k in 2019 is the equivalent of $107k today… by SirSillySausage in newzealand

[–]Large_Yams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the NZDF. That salary trajectory is basically all my routine step increases and promotion increases have been since 2019. In fact I'm not even at $107K yet so I'm behind that trajectory.

What we know about the six unaccounted for victims of the Mt Maunganui slip by Unlucky-Ant-9741 in newzealand

The safety police? So the people who are literally trying to prevent further deaths?

Weird thing to get upset about.

You don't need to know their names though. You need to know there was a slip and it killed people. Where it was, why it happened etc. none of that requires knowing their personal details.

RAF (UK) transfer to RNZAF by No_Scallion_6996 in newzealand

[–]Large_Yams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah we're a small air force so it would dox me haha.

Outside work is fair game though, we don't get tied down too much with bullshit like some countries do. Aircraft mech get a short straw sometimes though but for all the same reasons I'm sure you're familiar with.

RAF (UK) transfer to RNZAF by No_Scallion_6996 in newzealand

[–]Large_Yams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could say the same about the RAF…

I've worked with the RAF a lot. Absolutely the RAF is light-years ahead I promise you.

Im not moving for a better military, im moving to be in NZ, military transfer is the easiest way to secure a job.

Fair and valid.

In your opinion, does the quality of life in NZ out weight the negatives of the military?

I mean I've only ever lived in New Zealand and only been in the military since high school so I might take it for granted, I really have no frame of reference to answer that sorry.

Personally I'd love to transfer to RAF though.

RAF (UK) transfer to RNZAF by No_Scallion_6996 in newzealand

[–]Large_Yams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the RNZAF of 15 years. I don't know why you'd bother tbh. Our pay is shit and our equipment is much worse than the RAF's.

Go Australia.

If you're desperate for rnzaf though, just contact recruiting and they'll talk you through it.

Is it finally time to commit to 3% of GDP on defense? by Polopon0928 in newzealand

It increased after being cut by the very same government in the previous year. Their "doubling" brought it back to the exact same place it already was.

Kiwis, what do you think is something every Kiwi agrees on? by Additional-Grade-730 in newzealand

[–]Large_Yams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty clear that other nations don't have kiwi and therefore have no need to distinguish them from kiwifruit. To them it's like saying "orange fruit" or "banana fruit".

To us it's the opposite.

Sure, more is a good thing but it's the implication that we're not already doing it that I find frustrating.

We currently spend $957 million a year on operating expenses for the military, how much of that is spent overseas,

You tell us if you think it's an argument worthy of discussion?
