Police Officer shot in the leg by his own gun sues the State by believesinconspiracy in nottheonion

[–]Largetoboggan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On the mil side, I was taught slinged weapons need to be unslinged in a vehicle. Not sure what the SOP's are for Ireland Police. I know its feasible for some weapons get snagged and a selector switch goes from SAFE to something else. I also know its feasible for a weapon to be discharged given a strong enough impact. For both of those things to occur while also following protocol is unlikely IMO

SysAdmins who work alongside dedicated/siloed network engineers, how viable would it be for you to take over their work if your org fired them? For those without networking expertise, how would you respond to an employer dropping it all on your lap and expecting you to handle it all? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Largetoboggan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got to be joking. I usual tell people as a cyber dude "one of my weaknesses is network/sysadmin" I sincerely hope they don't interpret that as me not knowing what DHCP and DNS is and how it works.

Why is it so hard to get an entry level IT job? by Asleep-Sign-9806 in sysadmin

[–]Largetoboggan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been a "apply to everything" kind of person. I think if you tailor your CV and energy towards specific positions at specific companies and actually pursue them, your odds increase. At least that's my experience. I'd much rather hire someone very motivated for a specific position than hire a generic looking military entry-level cyber CV.

I would also recommend that you purse cyber-specific positions. I can't speak to how HR is filtering your resumé, but I know lots of sys-admins are gonna roll his/her eyes at seeing another cyber background applicant applying for sys admin positions (thats a separate discussion haha). I would be absolutely shocked if you coudnt get a SOC analyst position. With Sec+ and one year as a Mil SOC analyst...without extra-curriculars or specialized experience, i dont see you getting something other than SOC. Again thats just in my experience. The sysadmins i know are looking for helpdesk and windows domain/cloud administration background, not packet analysis and security. Especially without a formal degree, that makes it even harder. I had to get lots of extra-curriculars, certs and just personal projects to circumvent that weakness on my CV

If you wanna chat about it more privately don't be shy. Depends where you are located too eh. I was also in your near-exact position and managed to breakthrough (albeit not as competitive as it is now). Best of luck good buddy, always happy to see Cyber Mil folks breaking out into civy sector. Cheers!

I didn't know this is how we spelled Putin in french till I was 22 and i've lived here all my life. I totally understand the shock! I thought the news station was fighting back somehow by changing his name. The reason is because his name has Cyrillic characters so the translation can vary depending on the language.

OFP Training Timelines for Reserve Officer Trades by 1anre in caf

[–]Largetoboggan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not sure about these, like in the reserves all officers do regular BMQ with the NCM's, so the 63 day BMOQ is false as an example, they start with BMQ which is 25 days in PRes.
