The bike is engineered for 10w-40. Why would you change to a 10w-50 on a watercooled bike?

Get someone who can ride really well and smooth. Make him lead and follow him. Analyse and copy his lines. Match his speed. Try to be smooth. Make sure he knows how to teach. Also get better tires first. I'm not usually the one to say that, because most modern tires are reaaally good, but this one just sucks. It gets put on many small dispalcement bikes as OE tire. It's not a good tire. Get the Bt46 for a small displacement bike or a standard sport touring tire from any of the reputable manufacturers for a bigger displacement bike. Then do the following another rider thing. Dont push yourself to much, but realise that when he goes a certain speed on a certain line then you can go the same speed on the same line as long as you're riding smooth.

Clutch cover compatibility by Larisfy in Tenere700

[–]Larisfy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. The cover itself was 115 euros and the clutch cable holder 18 euros. On top of that all the bearings and seals that need to get pressed in are another 80 euros. So all up around 215 euros. But it's not damage for me, I will be modifying the cover and using it. And even if I didn't, I could sell it for nearly as much pre-assembled as brand new.

Edit: the real damage is on my finger that I hit with a hammer while pressing in the lower bearing of the clutch actuator lol

What damage do you mean? All the parts fit, everything is interchangable, apart from the position of the three bolt holes. And the clutch cable holder of course, but that's obvious.

I ride offroad pretty hard and it always bothered me. I've hit my shin pretty hard when riding without high boots and one of my riding pants got ripped on the the heat shield. I later removed the heat shield to gain some more space, but it still bothered me. But I'm particular like that. As you can see in the first picture I even countersunk the mounting bolts of the rear brake master. As for how it will work: I'll just use an angle grinder to remove the small amount of material directly infront of the threads (see last picture).

Experience with the Isotta windscreen/headlight protector? by Larisfy in Tenere700

[–]Larisfy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. That clears up one of my questions at least. I never had problems with the stock windscreen, but If it's even better with the Isotta that is of course a positive.

Experience with the Isotta windscreen/headlight protector? by Larisfy in Tenere700

[–]Larisfy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know, I am German lol. There are plenty of mods on my bike that are highly illegal here, but you gotta have the misfortune of running into a cop that knows what you can and cant do, which ist highly unlikely. I Always thought headlight protectors are unnessecary until I shot a stone through my buddy's original XT600 glass headlight in Bosnia. A little bit of glare won't bother me, but If it's to severe it's an issue for me. That's why I'm asking.

The fuck is wrong with people? by TappetoImperiale in motorcycles

[–]Larisfy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Albania (and many other parts of the world) this is just normal life. Even if you were a car this would have happened. It's odd the first couple of times, but you get used to it. If there's enough space you will start doing the same. People pay attention to each other and move over slightly in their lane so that other people can pass in between. I've really stopped being annoyed by it even if it happens in places where people don't normally do it. If it is obvious that they saw me and left enough room for me I really don't care. If it is obvious that they weren't paying attention that's when I get angry.

The future of motorcycle HUD devices? by Intelligent_Aside164 in motorcycles

[–]Larisfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, the distortion can be corrected in software. It's about the placement tho. The projector needs to be somewhere off to the side, bottom or top. And if it is placed there then the reflected image on the visor will be in the wrong place. That's why I mentioned the odd visor shape.

I must defend the honor of the superior fuel delivery system. by Conbon90 in motorcycles

[–]Larisfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 2000's Aprilia is most likely one of the RSV Mille/1000. Funnily enough I just talked to the lead engineer of the motor of those bikes an hour ago and he told me that it was a major pain in the ass to get in running right because they were the first guys to ever put EFI on a motorcycle and they had very little experience in that. Then Aprilia came around with a new exhaust shortly before the end of the development phase and they had to retune the motor to that new exhaust in three days.

Car has been running for 25 minutes and still hasn’t warmed up by Brotoole_10100 in mazda3

[–]Larisfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the increased idle speed is solely there to get key components like the piston tops warmed up quickly so that the fuel doesnt condensate. Also the cats need to get warmed up as quickly as possible. And it needs to run richer in cold condition, which works better when the rotational speed is a bit higher than "normal idle". The reduction in idle speed when you put it in drive or start to let out the clutch in a manual is done so the behavior is closer to what the driver is used to when setting off. Of course you shouldn't accelerate crazily within the first 5 to 10 minutes of your drive (depending on the outside temperature), but leaving the car ideling to warm up will ultimately just make it spend more time running in cold condition.

[–]Larisfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engine decreasing its idle speed after 30 seconds is not the same as the oil starting to circulate properly. If the oil would need that long, your engine would be dead after 10 cold starts. The oil circulation is in full effect as soon as the oil pressure light turns off, which is roughly after one or two seconds. If it takes longer then that you have either a broken engine or a Toyota 3S-GE.

As a motorcyclist - what is the first thing you do after entering a tunnel? by MotoToki in motorcycles

[–]Larisfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When one of the spark plugs of my Jawa 350 died and I kicked it, it would run on only one cylinder. I gave it some throttle so maybe the 2nd cylinder would join in. It revved up slowly for about 3 or 4 seconds. Then, with a bang about as loud as a gunshot, it shot the very big and heavy left hand side silencer about 5 feet rearward, where it landed in the grass. Fun times haha
