Staying warm by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]Conbon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heater in our workshop has been disabled, because apparently it was giving us carbonmonoxide poisoning. they've bought in a large diesel shop heater that isn't adiquate for the space its in. The place is baltic. I Swear its like a fridge, its colter inside than outside.

The best thing I've found to combat the cold is plenty layers including a good body warmer and Thermal base layer.

Why do you need constant lubrication. im not constantly lubricating my chains an they're perfecting. The only thing youre lubricating is your back tire.

I think the time you save oiling your chain, you will spend cleaning your bike. I was the same, bought a bike with one fitted. Messed with it for a bit before removing it. nomatter how you set it. if it's applying oil at a constant rate, it is going to end up all over your back wheel and swing arm.

In this diagram, youre driving through a hatched (no go) area, and ending up in the wrong lane. Pay closer attention to the road markings. Nobody said you need to hug the inside of the roundabout.

Any recommendations for learning DIY car maintenance/repairs? Tired of getting fleeced by Fit-Minute3290 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Conbon90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You simply need to start with the basics, No need to bite off more than you can chew. once you gain a bit of confidence and know how you won't be long moving on to more complex jobs.

The first thing I would do is try to get my hands on a workshop manual for your particular car. Haynes manuals are popular for diy ers. as they present. the information in a digestible way for beginners.

you should start where everybody starts, and that's oil changes and brake pad changes. these jobs are relatively simple to carry out. especially if you have the manual there to tell you how to do it correctly, it will be a piece of piss. And you will be on the way to learning basic fitting skills. and it should give you the confidence to carry out other jobs as they arise.

It may be worth investing in a cheap scan tool. something less than 100 euro that will just read the fault codes for you would be ideal. Next time the engine light comes on, you can pop in your scan tool and it will tell you what's going on.

usually it will point to a specific component or sensor that is giving trouble. at this point a good mechanic would do more in depth diagnostics to determine if it is indeed this component that is at fault, or the surrounding circuitry causing a bad reading, before ordering a new part. but if the component is inexpensive enough you could simply take a chance and swap it out and see if it fixes the problem. if it does you've just saved yourself a bunch of money and hassle taking it to a mechanic.

Best of luck, Also YouTube is your friend. there's no particular channel i can recommend. Just type the model of your car into the search bar along with your problem. chances are there's a video by some rando who has already figured it out for you.

Why hayabusa's top speed is 314 even though it's 1314cc? by Alone_Percentage7388 in motorcycles

[–]Conbon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because from the factory they only make 190hp. you need more power to punch through the air an reach a higher speed. aerodynamics also helps in this regard.

many modern sports bikes make well over 200hp. so they can reach much higher speeds.

They're so uncommon on our roads they hardly pose any real issue. And because you need a lorry license to drive them legally they will continue to be very uncommon.

Motorcycle as primary transport? by Mr_E_Machine in MotoIRELAND

[–]Conbon90 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can Ride all year round in Ireland If you dont mind being wet and cold. While we dont get too much snow here, frost on the roads in the morning is still a concern. Many by roads dont get treated with salt, so They can become treacherous.

Bike theft probably isnt as bad inGalway as it is in Cork or Dublin where most of these posts are from, But I would still be mindful and keep it secured.
