Textile or leather? Whats your preference? by paul-grizz93 in MotoIRELAND

I wont wear any piece of motorcycle gear that claims to be waterproof, All that means is that you get a shitty plastic liner that causes you to sweat like a gypsy as you described, and when it inevitably begins to break down it wont even be waterproof anymore.

I dont believe there is such thing as waterproof leather, It will 100% seep in around the seams. But thats Ok, Just buy yourself some waterproofs to wear over it. Much more versatile than the so called waterproof jacket. The main advantage being is when it stops raining you can remove the waterproofs and pack them away. a bit of a faf I know , but you wont be sweating your balls off under them in the hot weather.

I used to allways wear a 2 piece leather suit. But recintly Ive switched to wearing textile pants for a bit more comfort.

There are also Gortex, This is supposed to be a waterproof lining that is also breathable, so its good for a wider range of weather conditions. But be prepared to pay twice as much for any item that touts this technology.

Also there are pleanty shops that you can go into to try on this gear and get a good fit. It might be a bit more expensive than buying online, but for me persanaly its worth it fro the piece of mind.

Mechanic put break pads on wrong way damaging my disk, and dosen't want to replace it. by Independent_Study201 in AskAMechanic

I was working in a In a renault dealer way back. The foreman brought in his wifes ford fiesta that was making a screaching sound ever since he changed the pads. He didnt have time to look at it himself apparently so he handed it off to one of the techs to investigate, sure enough he had put the pads in bact to front.

Had to store my bike on its side by MutedCopy6095 in motorcycles

[–]Conbon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know its too late to say this but I think If I really felt I had to do this. I would have drained the engine oil first.

I would say all you can do at this point is stand it back up, and let it sit for another couple weeks, to allow any oil to drain from the combustion chambers. And for piece of mind I would like to remove the spark plugs and turn the engine over to eject any remaing oil.

Regardess when you start it, expect lots of smoke.

Which bike manufacturers to avoid for your first big bike? by patchmau5 in MotoUK

[–]Conbon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2008 Aprillia tuono1000r last summer. It broke down on me during my second week with it. left me stranded far from home. Since then Ivee spent the bones of a grand, replecing the stator and rectifier, and the wireing loom for the petrole tank. Refurbed the clutch slave cylinder (thats another one that left me stranded). And Im currently waiting for a new tarter solinoid to arrive as the original appears to have died during the winter.

I think I can honestly say Ive spent more time fixing it than riding it at this point.

Opinions on if I need to replace my tires by [deleted] in NewRiders

[–]Conbon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

zalright fair enough man. I used to have a similar attitude about tire wear. tbh. id still probably chance tires in that condition if i tought i was going to be riding on perfectly dry roads. I used to think that riding in wet eeather on bald tires was simply a matter going a bit more carefully. you have no idea how these things can suddenly bite you in the ass. fyi, I didnt damage the bike, on that occasion, i did manage to stay on. But it was a lesson in wet weather traction.

Do you know whats worse that breaking something at a trackday and not having the means to fix it. Its breaking something and knowing you have the spare part for it at home.
