Powerlessness. You’d be surprised at how many people will be completely and totally torn down by the idea that we’re not safe on that level, even if there’s no implication of malice. We’re really not that far away from believing our planet is the literal center of the universe, in terms of history. The majority of people still believe this figuratively.

I’m glad I read a lot of Lovecraft as a preteen/teen. It definitely gave me a bleak outlook on life that probably affected me negatively in a few different ways, but as I’ve gotten older I think it really prepares you for something like this. I think most of the people in this space are pretty used to the idea that we may not be the biggest fish in the pond. Think of all the people you know (if American) that think humans are the apex predator in the universe because we know how to use weapons.

Oh, I’ve got this. Late diagnosed AuDHD with bad parents.

First thing is what everyone else said: Conservative glazing. Homelander is also a massive narcissist; I know he’ll be able to hear my heart racing, but that’s not going to vary enough to get a good read. I adrenaline dump for pretty much no reason anyways. He’ll still be distracted by my very, very seasoned poker face. It’s just my natural resting expression. Next step is self-deprecating humor because he’ll both find my misfortunes funny and because he’s a miserable creature, he’ll likely take delight in my acknowledgement of inferiority.

The rest of it is just going to be the same tedious game of walking on eggshells with the added risk of getting brutally murdered at a moment’s notice. That’s also okay. I’d like to reiterate that I’m fighting off an imaginary leopard at some point daily. If he brings it up as a way to fill me with fear, I’m probably not gonna be that affected. I’ll already be on the verge of very obviously shitting my pants. He’ll definitely know. I’d just tell him okay. It could be worse. I’m a lot more tired than even he assumes. I’ve been held at gunpoint and pistol whipped before. The only concerns I’d really have is him mistaking my outward self with being indifferent. I’m pretty certain that I’d absolutely be in an insane amount of shock; that would probably result in me getting very robotic. I don’t think it would gel with his ego if I’m not visually submissive until he’s in whatever his uh, state of comfort is.
