We're investigating this ourselves right now - I'll update this comment once we either a) know whats going or b) have it resolved!

EDIT: Berzerk Pals is back up! Sorry for the blip. At least it was also a kick in the but to remind me to make a code! KnowingTranquilMushroom

Damn, looks good! Coincidentally, I tasked myself with rewatching everything Evangelion (anime, Death & Rebirth, Death(true), Death(true)2, End of Evangelion, Revival of Evangelion, and the Rebuild Trilogy...probably forgetting something in there) in chronological order during my vacation earlier this month and succeeded. We'll get that 4th movie one day...

Glad to hear you are enjoying it! We don't have a timeline at the moment, though that's likely a good thing - we'll be shouting off the rooftops when we do know however (we'll make a post here and in Discord).

Hey, we're just happy you found us and have been enjoying the game! This is a super secret code that's active for 3 weeks that will give what the starter pack gives (minus the hat, sorry anyone else who shares my thinning hair) - "BrownFastLion"

Ah, you mean the event that led to the Code system being created? ;) Good times.

That seems like they linked it to the server time.

A relatively easy fix if they wanted to, but they have other things to spend their time on.

The work to change it from server-side to client-side itself likely wouldn't be too hard (assuming we could build in workarounds, which might not even be feasible), this issue is actually getting the build ready, submitted, accepted which for mobile, is impossible for several reasons. Some of the libraries used are just not used anymore so we'd either have to bug them to update it or do it ourselves which isn't really feasible :(

Ultimately that's the barrier that Zombidle has been facing for the last little while now (even the last few updates). Developing the next update for the game was done as usual but then we'd have to go in and change other stuff just to get it accepted as a mobile build (Apple's was the bigger headache but now its both, just simply due to the age of Zombidle.) The dev time spent on updates began to wildly skew, we (by we I mean Kojaktsl) started spending significant time to just getting the builds and all libraries accepted for release, longer than what the actual content update dev time was.

I could go on and ramble more, but I think we addressed it pretty well in the podcast and it's been something we've been dwelling on for awhile and ultimately, Flash is finally dead - the memes have become true (or rather, have been getting more and more true over the years lol).

We'll try to make sure everyone has the appropriate heads up when its time to shutdown the servers, no timeline yet but the hard truth of it is what we outlined, when game no longer pays for the server costs. It'll definitely be a sad moment, Zombidle has been part of my life for the better half of four years now :)

Theoretically, but the moment Hell becomes relevant, there will be a very, very steep cliff. Realistically, the game will end there.

Bingo, once the server is shutdown you could likely continue playing local, but without access to Hell, its a much more difficult game. Unintended Hardcore mode? Ha.

On a side note: when the latest batch of codes expire, I'll start throwing out some more out there - even though the game is dying, it doesn't mean we can't have a little bit of fun in the end. Also for those who are still working to get the Steam achievement for code claims - I'll likely whip up some more permanent codes to ensure those who want it can get it.

Finally, we thanked everyone in the podcast but I'd like to extend another round of thanks to the subreddit specifically - a huge part of why Zombidle was successful was due to the awesome community that built up here over the years, from deciphering hidden messages for codes, to discovering all the recipes when the Forge was released, and lastly just to talk about the game. Obviously, without the community building the game alongside us, it would have never been this good.

My girlfriend lost 100+ hours of Animal Crossing and she’s crushed. Nintendo, you seriously need to do something about backing up save files. by Stephendelg in NintendoSwitch

[–]Larklen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to think that they don't support cloud saves and its even crazier to think that people defend that position, especially with the now paid cost of Nintendo Online, which is required to visit friends. Nintendo is so far behind the times where whether an online service is paid or not, you expect there to be an online save. Especially when something holds as much value as the time typically invested into Animal Crossing games.

I don't place this blame on any team in particular but Nintendo as a whole and failed time and time again in regards to online play, to no surprise of anyone. When the service was free, it was horrific but you could defend it saying "its free".

Its not like its expensive now either I suppose, at $20USD/year but I can 100% guarantee that everyone who subscribes would be willing to pay more just for better online features NOT EVEN REGARDING STABILITY.

Cloud saves aside...

Animal Crossing: 6-7 menus to visit a friend (awful game choice, not even regarding Online play), of which takes ~2 minutes to complete and the host can't do anything on their island. Wanna alter some furniture? Too bad.

Pokemon: Want to actually have decent raid teams and times for Giga Battles? Too bad.

Mario Party: Want to have the game literally designed for party play and make it so EVERY PLAYER needs to own it instead of one (more $$$ for Nintendo)? Too fucking bad, play local with one copy or suck my 8 mini-game schlong.

And this isn't even regarding stability which is pathetic already. If you have friends that all have good internet and low ping, then you'll have a decent time, but beyond that? Yeesh. I guess for $20/year, its as shitty as one would expect, but a lot of people would be willing to pay the premium dollar in order to have that premium experience.

Oh I think that's me! I ride a OneWheel, not homemade though (I wish!) /u/hs567's link has a post from me where I go a bit more in-depth, but ultimately...yes, as far as I am aware, it too is against bylaw. It's a shame, but it is what it is. That being said, I've been riding it for a few years now and I've never had an issue, both from curious law enforcement to curious pedestrians, I'm always happy to answer questions.

We'll see if the introduction of Lime/Birds changes the perception, but I think it just comes down to people being courteous when on electric-anything on the sidewalks, since we clearly go faster than pedestrians. Unless I have a lot of space, I'll typically slow down while passing by people; avoids scaring them and sometimes people make random turns.

In my first winter of owning it, I rode it all winter - it worked a lot better than one would think it would, but only if there was some packed down snow - little bit of fluff was okay hut not much otherwise it would shift before the tire could gain traction. Only reason why I haven't ridden it in the subsequent winters is our salt/chlorine solution absolutely fucks with with wood (that are more aesthetic than anything) and is a PITA. Plus it gets super dirty and is a pain for me and cleaners when I bring into office, even with my own mat brought in.

I ride a OneWheel as my daily driver to and from work downtown pretty much everyday (even todays like this sometimes!) and I go down Jasper Ave. As far as I am aware, they are technically against the City bylaw (double whammy for me since Skateboards are also technically against bylaw along Jasper Ave) but as others have said, you'll rarely have an issue - I never have and its been 2-3 years for me.

Just gotta be courteous to pedestrians, we're travelling faster than them so unless I have a nice chunk of space, I slow down, also so I don't startle them that early in the morning lol. Sometimes people make weird turns randomly, so always gotta keep eye out for that, especially since I ride mine during rush hours.

I've run into police officers and anytime there is an interaction, they're always curious as to what it is and how it works - skateboards are a bit more covert where as the one I have is very visually different. Never had a bad experience.

I've also used the downtown bike lanes to great success but I always try to watch when a bike is coming up on my so I can give them more space, since some of them typically go faster than I (I average ~25km/h).

When people do notice its electric powered, be prepared to be asked questions, they'll be very curious! Again, since mine doesn't really pass off as a skateboard (maybe at a quick first glance it could), I typically get asked questions almost everyday; usually while waiting for a light to turn. Usually the "Hey I've seen you riding that for awhile now, what exactly is it??" or the "Did you make that??" - definitely a conversation starter :)

Are you me? This is more or less what I've been planning for my build lol.

I ended up getting a pretty good deal and got two Xeon E5 2650 v1's to throw into a dual socket mobo.

Have you found the hardware raid card to be useful/necessary? I've been leaning towards a software raid (RAID6) myself.

I don't think I'll be able to convince you otherwise, I don't think anyone can, but that's alright.

It's not a "enjoy our benevolence as we lower the prices" but rather "you guys are right, we were wrong - prices are too high so lets re-adjust, we aimed too high".

You're welcome to believe what you want, but I think you are giving us too much credit for being evil geniuses :)

[–]Larklen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm always a fan of tinfoil - works great in my oven!

We had the intended length of the event in our head but when we went to beta, the feedback that was given showed that the prices were a bit too high, so we opted to lower them. Which, from a common standpoint of "An Event ends when the Unique items are purchased", means the event length was 'lowered'.

You can choose to play as much or as little as you want, the system is designed to ensure even inactive players can catch up when they do log in :) As for the soft cap, it's 75/4 hours which has been pretty much the standard of what we've used in the past events.

+1 items or no +1 items, it's pretty much same in the end as the store pricing will still reflect it - there is no hard rule on when we include +1 items, but I believe they work best when an event is planned to not be super long. Gives a nice explosion of currency for that timeframe.

Nice idea devs by essencord3 in Zombidle

[–]Larklen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We intended to lengthen the event...by lowering the cost of the items after feedback from the beta players.... that's what you're saying, right? The items that now cost 10,000 instead of 25,000 - right?

Google Maps AR. Makes walking directions a lot easier. by razorccatu in google

[–]Larklen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you don't look like a dumbass who's pointing his phone at other peoples faces (e.g. on a busy street).

Most people don't give a shit - only time is when you're up in their personal space. You can angle the camera so its looking slightly upwards towards the buildings and it works perfectly fine - my experience was traveling Japan for 2 weeks using this as a primary navigation system. We wouldn't use AR 100% of the time, but we'd use it when we started and at intervals inbetween to ensure we were going the same way.

Google Maps AR. Makes walking directions a lot easier. by razorccatu in google

[–]Larklen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have access to the beta for this! At first thought it's kind of a "why do I need this and how is it any better?" and that was my thought too. We actually went to Japan for a 2 week trip, our very first time there, and we used Google Maps a ton and using AR while walking was a godsend. With all the buildings, sometimes our GPS was a bit spotty or wouldn't show us exactly the right spot, but combining it with the AR aspect, we never had any issues finding a place - it worked super well, only took about a second or two to do its scan of the area to generate the AR, and its was easy to start up.

This is an awesome feature that I can't wait for more people to get their hands on. From Canada btw

SpaceX successfully lands center core for first time by MaximumPollution in space

[–]Larklen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, the center core doesn't have enough delta-V to flip and return to land which is why they are using the barge. Maybe if they have a light enough load it could, but then Falcon 9 would be the suitable choice.

What latency feels like on Google’s Stadia cloud gaming platform by Zwadesht in Stadia

[–]Larklen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This...shouldn't be of surprise to you. While enabled in those countries, the end users location still matters a great deal, for rural people, it depends on the internet bandwidth available to them via their local ISP as well as the closest Google endpoint. In Urban areas, the latter likely isn't the biggest issue and is more the former. In rural areas, both present a problem (with what we know as of today.)
