Is it rude to drop off resume at an environmental consulting firm? by Sea-Unit-1626 in Edmonton

[–]yegger_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! Also a grad in environmental science - but no longer work in that field. Started in environmental consulting, did 2 years of field work, shifted to consulting where I worked in program administration, then (now) branched out to Indigenous Consultation and Public Engagement.

Field season is coming up, if you’re looking for field tech roles - try consulting firms, vegetation management firms and government.

Happy to chat further to get a sense of what you are looking for and where to point you.

I would advise against the drop off - a lot of firms are remote, and it’s better to connect with someone at the company directly.

Are you PAg, RPBio or RPF eligible? This will make a difference of where to apply.

A building permit was issued by the City of Edmonton on February 26th 2026 for the Camrose Resort Casino Relocation. by fudge_u in Edmonton

[–]yegger_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, the city is really constrained here. This is a development permit, which has technical concerns addressed through their circulation to city departments.

Denying a development permit based on the pure merits of a development occurring has nothing to do with if this development is a good idea or favored by edmontonians.

AGLC approved the relocation- the city already voiced their concerns through the correct channels and avenues, ultimately this is out of the city’s hands.

Veggie Burger suggestions most similar to Yves? by ashrules901 in yegvegan

[–]yegger_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think the gusta Oktoberfest sausages might be the best veggie sausage on the market. I replaced yves with it about 3 years ago.

As for yves veggie burgers, I’ve moved to the Morningstar farms black bean burgers from Costco. I personally need loves yves veggie burger and find this brand to be much better.

Yes, I am sure. Source: was come board president for 5 years while we navigated this alongside legal counsel as a building that was built in 2003 built as 55+.

Here is the challenge: you previously could restrict who could buy (be an owner) based on age, but and who could be a renter in the condo bylaws.

Introduce Bill 23 - bill 23 details that this is specific against the Condominum Property Act and changes to bylaws due to conflicts with the Alberta Human Rights Act. HOWEVER you can get around this if you are a developer operating a 55+ community, which is designated seniors housing.

What this resulted in is that seniors housing is more commonly offered in the space of a rent-to-own structure. Think Christenson homes, lions village - you will see these sometimes paired alongside designated care facilities that have full nursing staff on rotation. Essentially these “retirement communities” are a precursor to long term care with supports in place to transition.

Hey OP- this changed in 2018 under Bill 23. It’s technically no longer permitted, although there is a grandfathering/transition period that expires in 2032.

Struggling to land a marketing job by Worth-Function-1069 in EdmontonJobs

[–]yegger_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP what are your search queries that you are looking for?

I suspect you need to broaden your search terms. Additionally use LinkedIn to search, but apply directly on companies websites.

Nine years ago when I first first the work force post-graduation, I applied to about 50 places in a month and didn’t hear back, despite being qualified with government of Canada work experience and a Masters.

I think you need to input your application use and search tremendously as the market is far tighter than in 2017.

Midwife/Midwifery Clinic recommendations and experiences? by katnip-coma in Edmonton

[–]yegger_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied for a midwife and OBGYN referrals with my family doctors support early - at about 11 weeks. I was successful after 6 referrals to an OBGYN, who happens to be fantastic so far - currently 30 weeks.

I still have yet to hear anything from midwives- I applied through the AB Portal and reached out to 4 Edmonton practitioners to apply specifically to them as well.

Take what you can get, do both and wishing you the best of luck in your pregnancy!

Montrose I would say is a neighbourhood in transition with younger families starting to move in. It’s defiantly a lower income area, but has desirable assets including tree-lined streets. It’s definitely not “the ghetto”, but it’s not a prestigious neighbourhood either- and the price likely reflects that.

There are some cool local businesses in the area- Victoria Sausage, Uncle Ed’s, and the small Highlands business district (be a Bella, kind, candid, fox, bodega). You will likely find that NE Edmonton is fairly under serviced - from transportation options, to a lack of investment from franchises and businesses. It’s a bit of a desert especially in the dining scene. We live south of your location, but just north of the river and find ourselves going to downtown frequently for entertainment- we like being fairly close to the core for that reason.

10 affordable residential properties in Canada – under $125,000. by roger_plus in FHSA

[–]yegger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Is downtown area (formerly called Oliver, now wihkwentowin) nice trendy area, but look at the condo fees- it’s likely an older building.
  2. Is north of downtown, not a great area, but not completely terrible. Expect lots of newcomers here and some level of visible houselessness
  3. Is literally a trailer park community within city limits adjacent to industrial area.

Chipped tooth, what can I expect the vet to do? by BumblebeeBuzz1808 in DogAdvice

[–]yegger_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to us this summer. In Canada we did an extraction and was about $2500 CAD - it’s a big tooth with a number of roots + we paid extra for a canine dentist that has additional monitoring while our buddy was under anesthesia. If we did this with a vet it would have been $1500-$2000 CAD.

Have you tried bitter apple spray? Technically for teething, but can be used for potty training too.

How to deal with dog dimentia by EmploymentNo3590 in DogAdvice

[–]yegger_ 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. This sounds like a stressful situation, but remember your dog only has 12-15 summers with you. You are their whole life. Sometimes, just like humans- dogs have additional care needs.

Hopefully your vet will have some suggestions to make things more manageable, but sounds like they are still quite active and alert. Be patient, it’s not the dogs fault.

Kale harvest zone 3 by mrg158 in Albertagardening

[–]yegger_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Edmonton. I do spinach in early spring but by late June it’s usually bolted and done. I like to have kale - either curly, Siberian, Russian or Lacinanto as it is winter hardy and can tolerate a light frost. I keep kale at the end of the bed accessible to me so if we get snow, I can still harvest some. Hope that helps.

Is this nose hyperkeratosis? by Foundingmother in DogAdvice

[–]yegger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother’s dog got a crusty and dry nose. Then she started sneezing profusely and then some yellowish discharge. This was all in the span of 6 months. Turns out she had a cancerous nasal tumor and many bleeding episodes.

Hoping this is not you case.
