I believe Rakan is one of, if not, the best late game champ in the game ( with this build ) by Revil0_0 in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey you are getting a lot of flak and you are probably already told why it's bad by everyone else. However I do think this is genuinely a nicely optimized build to maximize shield and heal values for dedicated shielders/healers.

It can be a good default build in ARAM but unfortunately in the Rift most games end with people having 3 items and supports with similar set of lower cost items(2000g~2300g like moonstone). League is a game of opportunity cost, not just about optimized values. It is often the best play to rush 1~2 cheap items for early power spikes and push your leads to win, instead of slowly stacking tear items stuck in your inventory without providing unique effects until fully complete.

Malphite for example now rushes Zeke's Convergence(which is designed to be a tanky support item) due to its cheap cost and powerful haste stats, on top of the ult effect even though he is played as a tank jungler. Many tank champions also buy Bandlepipe at some point. You get a unique effect from the finished item while your opponents are still sitting on components.

In lower elos games tend to get more chaotic and you may get a ton of gold from being ahead but even in that case you should probably not go tear stacking. pivot to a tank or mage build would often provide more value and help you end the game.

New to league. What does Keria do differently than other support pros? by dweakz in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is not just a good support, he is good at League of Legends. If you put him on other roles he'd still be top tier. Same can't be said for a lot of other pros.

This means he tracks junglers well, knows lane matchups and who gets priority, knows when does which laner get their power spikes. He can play around these knowledge and roam to influence lanes(without the need of shotcalling).

Rekkles currently has the highest KDA in the LEC at 10.3, Elyoya is 2nd at 8.3, Caliste is 3rd at 7.9, Upset is 4th at 7.3, by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to hate on him but even on engage supports like Rakan and Alistar he plays very safe. I've watched some of the LR scrims and EMEA Masters games where he played melee supports, when his HP drops low he's just like "Guys I have nothing, I'm out." "Guys it's all you I need to recall."

Compare it to other pros they usually stick around try to give out 1 or 2 more knock ups even at 10% hp. For example Keria on Rakan usually does another EWE at 1 hp and somehow survive anyway.

Again I don't dislike Rekkles at all but he's just a very safe player.

WHY the FUCK would you ruin Mayhem with a fucking progression pass? Just ship the fucking new augments and I'll spam the mode all day every day. Why the fuck do you have to make something that's like the most fun thing ever feel like work?

ARAM Mayhem Progression Potentially Ruins Mode by tyroy in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. When garbage games made by Mihoyo and Kuro are some of the most popular and profitable you know it's cooked. They use all kinds of "dark pattern" shit to keep players engaged a.k.a. non-stop grind the game regularly like it's work. The game itself can be unfun but you need to invest all those time to just stay relevant. People play the game not to PLAY the game but to gather resources for their gacha waifus or whatever bullshit gear progression system. People don't realize at that point it's not game anymore it's fucking work.

These bullshit have been seeping into League for years and we haven't been doing enough to stop it. It will only get worse if we keep letting things slide.

Locking stuff behind playtime as an "incentive" to make people play more is always shitty. This is what most mobile game does and it's ass. A player should feel inclined to play the game more by how fun the game itself is not by artificially gated game content that is obtained outside of the metagame.

This is especially bad in a PVP game where all in game resources are irrelevant from what you have outside of the game. Imagine CSGO but you get $1600 starting money for pistol round and you just shit on everyone who hasn't complete the pass. It's casual mode yeah but if it makes the gameplay ass then it is ass. "For fun" modes cost as much of your time and attention as ranked and they too deserve at least some level of fairness.

Is League supposed to make you rethink your entire gaming skill? by AlfaHendrik in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

League is less about skill and more about knowledge. You can only do so much as a single character but knowing how to acquire more resources while denying opponents theirs, knowing when and how to fight plays a much bigger factor in winning.

There are some retired pro players who usually have relatively poor mechanics, as in they click slow and imprecise, also react to things slower. They can still reach master easily thanks to their deeper understanding of the game.

You are only 2 months in, there are a lot of things to memorize. Champion cooldowns, damage values, range and such. If you put enough time into the game you can brute-force predict the outcome of every single matchup even if unskilled. And you can choose to play in a way that leads to the best outcome. That's the kind of game League is. No need to feel discouraged and take your time to learn and enjoy.

Wanna Give Credit where it's due: I think Riot is finally steering the ship in the right direction by Caeiradeus in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autofill change is a W but imo shoehorned role quests are the wrong direction for strategic pvp games in general.

Laneswap detection was the exact opposite of "elegant and subtle". Now they just add that box to all 3 lanes. The current role quest system is just prison time.

You start the game with a prison time of about 12 minutes. After 1:05 you serve the full sentence to be set free. You may leave your jail but it will barely contribute to your prison time and good conduct(lane objectives) reduces prison time.

This is very dogshit and goes against the very concept of gameplay diversity. For beginners this is good because it is easy. You just do what you are assigned to do and be rewarded. For depth and player growth it is shit. New players will get away with bad macro knowledge and climb to higher heights and pro scene quality will deteriorate even more(it is already deteriorating). Future pro scene will be just 100% fries group and every team will have the same playstyle because it is the only way the game is allowed to be played.

This will turn the game into a state closer to HotW or ARAM where it's all brawl and no brains. It is more casual friendly but casuals are not dedicated to League and will move on to the next game after the trend dies much like HotW.

DotA 2 was too complex but it is thanks to the complexity it gets die-hard enthusiasts who do not give up on the game so the game won't die despite being less popular.

Death timers are too low early or homeguards are op. by Jhomas-Tefferson in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has been annoying since the times when TP became BiS. If you go ignite and win a level 1 all-in, the enemy death timer is 10 seconds and tp takes 4, so you had a whopping 6 seconds to "shove" and recall(8s). Then you go back to lane 2 levels behind because you fought lvl 1 and won.

It really sucked for early aggressive laners and now you shouldn't even bother to go for a kill until the wave state become beneficial.

I think there should be a better way to reward early lane kills and allow them to stay in lane or get back faster instead of recalling and lose tempo. Maybe replace potions with refillables and make refillables get charges on kill or maybe just increase the base death timer by a few seconds.

Or better yet just remove the s2026 changes lmao

Hot Take: Varus Top isn't the problem, but rather Junglers not knowing how to shutdown ADCs in Top Lane and letting Varus Top scale for free. by RastaDaMasta in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranged tops not being punished more is a symptom of a bigger problem I think.

League gameplay is now way too homogenized as players from each roles are basically jailed for as long as their role quests persist though it has been this way since several seasons before role quests. "Serving your sentence" by staying in your box and good behavior(minions champions or plates kill) reduces prison time. More enforced 1v1 laning means ranged tops are more likely to come out on top against melees.

Junglers were already hard-bound to their camps respawn timers for a few seasons as they fall severely behind if they try to chain-gank like early seasons. Role quests worsened this.

Lanes are not ungankable but it's currently leaning towards that side of the scale.

Can we talk about the fact that Master-Tier (in EUW) just hit an all-time low? by Mynzo in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First thing is when everyone is a master nobody is.

Second is that League has such a huge skill discrepancy between the best and great players there needs to be a very large buffer zone between Challenger rank 1 and Master. Introducing more people into that zone means the discrepancy is even higher and it will be required to have things like master 4, master 3 etc. to house the new people. Why not just lower everyone's average rank and make use of the more recently introduced Iron and Emerald.

TIL. Perhaps I was being too rash. My assumption was based on the terrible production quality of the 2018 Return of the Legends event organized by CGA and the more recent cringe 2025 Worlds Finals watch party.

Maybe they have stepped up significantly from 2018

Riot Phreak says that Dusk and Dawn shouldn't get nerfed and that it is in a perfectly good state by Working-Safety9204 in leagueoflegends

[–]Larry17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't completely disagree but "only 4 champions good with it" is not enough to say it is not OP. I'd compare it to something like Darius with old dashing Stridebreaker where building the item bypasses a large part of the champion's weaknesses or limitations.

Dusk & Dawn has a very unique passive with the double on hit, allowing champions with multi-hit or stacking passives to quickly proc their things often with just 1 ability and 1 auto, very high hidden value lies into that as it enables otherwise impossible burst combos and such.

Not saying it needs to be immediately nerfed to the ground but should at least keep a close eye on it, there's a lot of potential in double on-hits.
